As for Highever, I pictured Howe leaving a skeleton crew there. If anything, they could strip the teyrnir of resources and the castle of valuables, sending them to Amaranthine or Denerim so Howe could make use of the plunder. I wouldn't expect Howe to leave the castle completely empty, since he did want possession of Highever. Plus, if he knows the Cousland kids are alive, it'd be a simple smart move to keep people at their home in case they're dumb enough to return.

You're not the only one angry over the Mac Tir thing. At least keep it all in one word! ("MacTir") I had just finished reading an Irish legend with many many Macs used for ancestry of one person, only to find it misused in DAO.
I'm secretly convinced that naming conventions say much about a culture, and therefore are important. The Irish system makes a lot of sense for their culture/Fereldan, as does the reasonably similar Anglo-Norman system. I don't see why the writers couldn't have, say, opened up the Wikipedia article on naming and, you know, used one of those systems consistently. *sigh* I agree...up until around 100 years ago, Mac = son of, so you'd get Arthur MacPatrick, son of Patrick MacDouglas, son of Douglas MacAlistair, etc. The whole point of "Mac" or "Fitz" was to differentiate it from those important enough to have a clan name (associated with nobility). It makes no sense to me to deliberately single Loghain out as being non-noble by giving him a "Mac" name without similarly recognizing that this is what you're doing and use "Mac" correctly. Argh. Just...argh.

I don't think they have a standard that was ever mentioned- did they? I used medieval french terms for the currency. Denier as the lowest, sou, and livre as gold.Maria13 wrote...
What is the Orleisian currency? Do we know what they call bronze pieces?

Edit: If they were born in the Tower, maybe they learn something of their parentage at some point and decide to keep the name for a personal reason. They could just like it.
Edit 2: Or do you mean why the human mage needs a last name mechanically? No idea

Avvarian Names
The clans are matrilineal (as they say, one’s mother is obvious to all), so the byname indicates an Avvar’s mother by use of “An” (daughter of) or “Ar” (son of) in front of the mother’s name. This is followed by “O” and then the clan name. Here’s a complete example of an Avvar name: Arcill Ar Dubne O Wyrmhold. So Arcill is the son of Dunbe and they belong to the Clan Wyrmhold.
Oh, this made my day! Thank you, Lupus!

Wow,that player's guide show just how many things were NOT included in the game (apostate origin, horses, surface dwarf, avvar origin, focuses etc.) I have a feeling the game would have been a lot more awesome if Bioware had been given an extra few months or so.
BTW, thanks Merilsel.
All here a good start into 2011 and lots of quality chapter/ FF ^^
