@Raonar: I don't know if it's just me, but I would have thought the Grey Wardens as an organisation already knew about broodmothers and that the Codex entry, when it refers to 'Grey Wardens', isn't referring to the PC (and Alistair if he's there). I mean, they've been exploring the Deep Roads for centuries. Always felt a bit weird to me.
Plus...I also kinda believe Grey Wardens don't have many females in their ranks *because* they know about the broodmothers. :/

Also, did they even encounter broodmothers in the calling?

I can't back up what I said about the Grey Wardens exploring the underground (as extensively as the dwarves, at least), but I thought I had read somewhere that the Grey Wardens had attempted to discover the locations of the Old Gods. That's where I drew my assumption there had been actual deep forays. I could be way off base.

I haven't read the calling either, though, this is just what I read from summaries or other people's posts.

WE know that that's entirely unnecessary because GWs cannot be turned into broodmothers but are you suggesting that the GWs themselves might not know that? I suppose it would be sort of hard to test that.Plus...I also kinda believe Grey Wardens don't have many females in their ranks *because* they know about the broodmothers. :/

But we also know Ferelden women are unique in Thedas in their interest in fighting and such. It could just be something as simple as fewer female Grey Wardens because there are fewer women who have the interest or skills needed for such a lifestyle. Even in Ferelden, where women fighters are more common, it still looks like the vast majority are men.
@Kya: that's the nice thing about fanfic. It's not your real name, and doesn't even have to be the same handle you use online everywhere else. So much less potential for embarassment if you're not sure of what you've written. Waaaay less stressful than submutting a manuscript to a publisher.

@Kya Welcome! I we love to support each other here. Don't be to shy (though I suspect most of us went through it too, I know I did). *HUGS*
@Maria13 *Pounces and hugs, and squees to see you* Yes, the stupid stats are still down ( I feel your, and Raonar's pain, to update or not, that is the question).

I'm suggesting that the Grey Wardens may have a concern that any female Warden who goes into the Deep Roads might be a free broodmother handed to the horde. Even if they don't know about the reproduction issue, I like to think the Wardens would have a twinge of conscience about sending a sister-in-arms to such a fate. Wardens are supposed to go to the Deep Roads to die, not get turned into tentacled darkspawn breeding machines.

Darkspawn (save the Architect and his creations) aren't smart, they wouldn't know a GW woman would make a sterile Broodmother. They remind me of insects with a hive mind running on instincts, IMHO.
Darkspawn can also sense that GW women are tainted, however. There's a chance that their instinct to kill GWs overrides their instinct to take women alive (maybe during a Blight). I don't know if any GW woman would want to take those odds, though.

Well, maybe this will get my muse to start writing my DAO stuff again. It needs to get done, but I just can't!

I think I just released the most depressing thing I've ever written last night. I need some kittens and puppies, possibly unicorns and a double rainbow (all the way!) stat.

And, of course, the rainbow, as requested.
