Plus, since I'm done with school and jobhunting updating is a good way to keep my typing speed up.
(cannot BELIEVE da2 is finally on steam after the special edition offer expired!)

I admit I have been having trouble focusing on posting. I miss my carrot---the stats bar.

I got it at direct2drive when they had that 25% off sale. No plans to cancel, I can just load it into the steam utility like I do with all my non steam (mostly gog) games.
I've known how AOA would end for a long time, so it's just a matter of finishing up the final chapters. Substantial chunks are written already, anyways. And I'm more motivated to get it done by DA2 as it is looking more and more like Anders may be in it, and I know that'll throw the whole thing so wildly into AU it'll bug me. Plus, if he's actually a party member I may want to do an Anders/f!Hawke fic.

And one of those people didn't just steal that but literally all the quotes from my page...including ones that my friends said and who they don't even know.
I know that this is the internet and all but come on.

So someone just sent me an email asking if I came up with the 'Top Eleven Things Everyone Should Know About Twilight' list that's on my profile because they wanted to put it on their profile. I know that there are people who put quotes from my stories on their profile but this was new. I decided to take one of the things on the list and google it to see if anyone else had done that. They had. Not only do these people not even bother mentioning that they stole my list but one of them even gave credit to someone else since they took the list from that person's profile.

Actually, that makes it worse. How hard is to throw the original author (you) a link?

That is pretty appalling Sarah, though of course flattering at the same time.
I would say, however, that the person who contacted you and the one who credited someone else are innocent, in that at least they are trying to do the right thing....

Heh, I'm starting to get a bit paranoid lol j/k. My husband is always telling me that people will steal my online stuff but I wasn't worried about it till now. *raises eyebrows in alarm*
Things do fall under copyright protection online but it is up to the individual to police it themselves.

The response I got was this: If i copied from your profile, it was because I thought what you had was funny, and was trying to bring it to more people. I wasn't trying to claim that I had come up with those things myself. And my profile is mostly original stuff anyway. But since it bothered you, I deleted the quotes from your friends, with the exception of the quoted conversation with your priest. I'll be giving you credit for that one though.
First of all, it was absolutely half of their profile so that's not true. Then there's the fact that if you don't credit where you got it from, people won't realize it so they'll think that the things I put on my profile are from her. She did say that a conversation I had with someone at church was from me but all the other quotes not actually said by people I know but many of which have my own comments on them (Ex: ""We're on a grail quest. Who better to help us than a knight?" Robert Langdon, the Da Vinci Code. Answer: ANYBODY! But that's just my opinion.)
And now that I've looked again, she kept two additional quotes that my friends said besides the one she finally credited me for including the turban one.
I officially hate the internet.

I mean, if it was a bunch of game or book or movie quotes, all right. But stealing quotes from your FRIENDS, people they don't know and have no connection to? That's just... bizarre.
(semi-related: I told the person who emailed me that I mentioned a few days ago that I'm not the first person to start their fic before the origin starts in-game, or expand on the time between origin and ostagar so they're more than welcome to that, but that I would not be at all comfortable with them just reusing the specific events I created to fill those times)
Interview friday, and I just got called by a recruiter from somewhere else for another interview. They sprung a phone interview on me out of nowhere, but said HR would be calling me back today to set something up.

That's so obnoxious. I had someone do that to a list I created long ago for SW fandom where they even credited the wrong person. Like...I'm sure that what must have happened was that someone else stole credit...then someone thought it was cool and listed the wrong name. But ick. Just ick...

The worst part is that it's not even a very good list. It was just something I wrote during lunch back in high school to amuse/annoy the friends I was sitting with who were so obsessed with the series that they'd spent every lunch for two weeks going over the Twilight movie guidebook (yes, they had a movie guidebook full of glossy pictures) which, needless to say, was not something I was thrilled about. I'm not even sure why I bothered to put in on my profile in the first place.Mahkara wrote...

I agree. I've had days where I've nearly burst into tears over writing the same scene again and again and again and it not working out ever.
But then when it does finally work out, it is ~*GLORIOUS*~. (And that last bit means I've been hanging out with the SiB crowd *way* too much. When I start with the glitter banners or sparkle font, I've finally been converted.)
