In order to ever get anything done, I have to have set update days (which can sometimes change depending on if I get something done early, don't want to publish on a holiday, or am particularly annoyed by stats being down). That may sound a bit anal but if I don't have it planned that I'll update one story every Wednesday then I'll probably never update. I get distracted REALLY easily.

I don't think I could get into specialized software. I'm pretty attached to Word, though. It's gotten me through every paper I've ever written, my thesis, and half a million words of fanfic. ;) (plus buying something else after how much I paid for Office makes my purse hurt)
I have writing ADD. Chapters are always left sitting open, I might pop in for a bit and add a paragraph or two, or I might sit down and write for an hour. I rarely do more than an hour uninterrupted, though. It's either bouncing back and forth between looking at something online, playing a game (I write mostly on my laptop but I have a desktop for gaming, so I sometimes have both going at once. My roommate makes fun of me), or stuff around the house. Put dinner on, write a couple pages, check dinner, write more, eat dinner, write more. That kind of thing.
I have the attention span of a gnat most of the time, though.
I use one massive file for each fic and will write ahead in the same document. Once a chapter is done I'll open a new document and paste it into that for saving and uploading.

(also, it is so cold I'm debating leaving the water running before I leave so my pipes don't freeze. Our heat is working but in a 100 year old building there's only so much the heat can do when it's below 0 outside...)

Yep, this is very much my own style except I do it all on my desk-top, write, research, check FF states, check BSN etc

I also have one master file and the split up the chapters for publishing.

And me. Just substitute laptop for desktop and Pages for Word there you go. I generally have *counts* ten tabs open in Chrome at at time. I use Word for my original stuff and Pages for fanfic. I have no idea why.

I also keep a very fluid outline in TextEdit where I have the overall plans for the story and various chapters/sections, snippets of dialogue that've popped into my head, etc. I also have an open document on my ipad for when I think of ideas when not around my laptop (like when I'm in bed falling asleep or whatever). And there's also my paper notebooks all over the place with jotted ideas and even a sketch or two (just layouts. I can't draw people other than basic cartoon people to save my life. It's the noses. I suck at them).

Okay, this is becoming annoying.

I have been looking for what I remember was a codex entry with a letter in which Loghain asks 'King Bhelen' for an alliance with Ferelden. it was supposed to be held by that Imrek creep, Loghain's messenger at the Orzammar gates. Am I remembering wrong that there is a codex entry?

I tried to replay that bit where I kill him and get the note, but some bug prevents it from showing up for loot. Anyone know exactly what it says?

And yes, I did look up the plot section in the toolset, but it's nowhere to be found...

Imrek has no special inventory or script in the toolset. I'm not sure if he gives a codex entry...

There should be a note on his person (like any of those other letters and such that disappear and unlock codex entries).

It just doesn't show up on his body and should give a codex entry, unless I am delusional...

@Raonar: Did you find the codex entry the item is supposed to give? Because the note doesn't start in Imrek's inventory (he just has his weapons and armor in the toolset.) Are you sure this wasn't cut or bugged in a patch?

Edit: Ah, Raonar. Didn't you notice the "zz_" prefix? That means the note was cut from the final game but left in the toolset files, kind of like a quest about Beraht that was supposed to happen in the same area.

Edit2: Curious thing, cut content:

Letter given by Imrek to deliver to Bhelen

Why would I give Bhelen a note from my enemy?

Well, if we can ever find out what that note said we might be able to figure that out. If it's very impolitic and DEMANDING assistance like Imric himself does, I can see how passing on that self-damaging note might be useful.

Quest about Beraht? Tell me more:P

I actually remember (i think) actually getting the letter in my first playthrough (and the codex entry), before I patched the game. It was probably broken by the 1.03 patch or 1.04.

You weren't supposed to give Bhelen the letter. I think Loghain was offering Bhelen assistance to secure the throne in exchange for his alliance (again, this is what i remember).

I thought I saw it... but it may have been my imagination. There *is* a quest involving surface dwarves in the "Mountain Pass" conversation folder (such as "zz_mtn100_tristal"). There's also a dragon cultist quest that got cut in that folder. It seems like Gherlen's Pass was going to have a bigger role and a bigger area.

Looking through the "zz_" files are fun. Aside from Temp Man and some other debug stuff, there is some interesting cut content. (Examples include searching Niall's body, Shale in Redcliffe, Maric in the Fade, etc.)

I need some good Oghren-type insults. Why can't I think of them today?

For Oghren, I cheat and just steal left and right from his dialogue page. ;) I figure, hey, it's canon!

If you're going for something offhand and generic you can't go wrong with nug+vaguely sexual verb

Oghren will always target certain things. Alistair got sex-related insults because he was a virgin. Anders got insults that questioned his "manliness" (how much he could drink, wearing a skirt, etc). Or that made fun of his cat. Zevran was teased for things that related to his being an elf- being slim, for example. Nathaniel got insults about his dad. Wynne about being stuck-up,

He seems to pick one theme for each character and base most of his insults around that. (but they're also mostly of the ribbing/teasing variety, he really isn't overtly cruel)

At least, that's my impression of him. But then, I also picture Oghren and Anders in an epic bromance involving spending hours crafting insults for each other which they later share over drinks and card games. So the Oghren who lives in my head isn't necessarily anyone else's Oghren.

Wow

I justly got a PM at FF.net where someone is telling me that they enjoyed the Mahariel-story I write -so far, so normal. He/she also told me that she had read the ranting that I did at my profile page about Mahariel stories where the author makes them too human, so that isn't noticable that the main char is actually Dalish. (One of my biggest FF-pet-peeve aside Alistair/Morrigan-shipping FF's *barf* )

Anyway the person who had PM'ed me told me that s/he noticed afterwards that her/his Dalish elf is written too much like a human too and is currently rewriting her MC because of that.

People are reading my FF.net profile page. I'm shocked. Though more shocked me the fact that it made people to rethink stuff. Wow.

"I used nuglicker lately" is not a sentence you want to read aloud. DAMHIKT.

I always get surprised when people note that they've read my profile page (usually my epic pet peeve list) but then, I do read other peoples' including yours so...

Ha! Thank you all for the Oghren-insult help. It helped.

"I used nuglicker lately" is not a sentence you want to read aloud. DAMHIKT.

I promptly said it out loud. Water nearly got on to my laptop keyboard.

I'm now going to go read some profiles as they sound interesting from what you guys are saying. Has FF.net always had profile options? I can't figure out why I didn't put anything in mine when I registered forever and ever ago.

@Lupus: btw, on your last AOA update with the two years passing part, I had the BSG "One Year Later" music play in my head. Just saying. (That is not a bad thing, btw. Also just saying.)

You're actually the second person to tell me I put BSG music in their head with that chapter. The other person mentioned the timpani riffs. Heh.

Not sure how long they've had profiles, my account is only a year old or so, though.

Haha, yeah that happens when I'm too lazy to type things out. To say it correctly:

I have let Ohgren use the made-up term "nuglicker" as an insult in the FF that I'm writing on. Better? :P
