The word cripes doesn't help with the whole age related thing. LOL

I skip ahead sometimes or just go to writting something else, or go do something else. My fav thing to do. Play Dragon Age hahaha. Sometimes I just replay scenes to get me in the mood now a days I play my own dragon age video's to get in the mood. Alot of people here have mentioned picking a song to inspire you and play it. Something that will get you tapping out the words to the beat. Sometimes it works sometimes not :)

Allow me to pop in here, if I may; your comment made me want to reply, for it seems you do exactly what I do; skip ahead to the scenes I picture in my head before returning to the original plot line. A couple months ago I began writing again and had two chapters, then suddenly inspiration struck and I was writing the last chapter for that story...although I lost all my files due to a virus.

Music helps but for me it's more of a burden than an asset for it turns my mind away from what I'm trying to write, rather than help it.  Free-writing often helps too, just writing whatever pops into your mind, paragraphs, maybe ideas you've got swirling around that aren't going to actually make it into whatever you're playing. Or yeah, go play some Dragon Age.

I jump ahead. Stuff changes, of course. Sometimes what I end up writing earlier in the story informs an event later, and sometimes what I wrote later in the story ends up being completely wrong after I fill in more of the earlier events. Jumping around is helpful but you can't get too married to your first version of later events, or you might never be able to link the story together.

Haha, that's a problem I'm running into right now in regards to what I've already written; I woke up today and realised the story wants to go (er, well, start) in another direction. Queue me pulling my hair out because I know I have to scrap a scene I really liked, heh.

Probably the reason I've been hesitating to write ahead, but I feel like I might experiment a little with it, if only to puzzle out how to fit everything together.

Also, Raonar, you are awesome. You have my eternal gratitude for pointing me in the direction of that website! XD

You're welcome, although it's kind of sad that one of the best TSFH albums (Power of Darkness) is not uploaded there. Ah well.

But yeah thats the plan for now! Though I may have to bug my favorite Dalish writer for ideas/advice *looks up at Merilsell)

Aww *blush*

I'm free, ask away.

Problem or rather challenging with writing an authetic Dalish Warden (so he/she doesn't come off as a Cousland clone in a body of a Mahariel)is that you have to make up many things yourself. The game information are quite thin on the Dalish after all.

I love that part, because it makes things more interesting...and gives me the chance to create it in an interesting way. Hopefully.

Now I'm still puzzled about how to let her take Oghren with her without falling into OOC-ness (she kinda hates him)

Mammoth Cave has almost 400 miles of tunnels.  Would you travel into its depths with no map and no guide?

Naaah not in the Deep Roads. I'm past that already. I mean after leaving Orzammar where Oghren normally follows in the game...if you want or not. Lenya is rather very indifferent toward Oghren and somewhat grossed out by him. "You are disgusting!" and I hate you, durgen'len" are the two main things he gets to hear from her, lol. Then again I (as the author) want to take Oghren with me...because...he is Oghren Lol. I simply need him to lighten things up at times and other... stuff  So to make that understandable to my char who is screaming no NO NOOO! at this thought in my head will be the tricky part.

Also Leliana is travelling with them too and that despite Leny's obvious dislike. So yeah. I think I can work out a reason.*ponders*

Haha, you know she doesn't hate Alistair that much anymore. He is slowly growing on her somehow, but then again Lenya didn't give him the nickname "puppy" for nothing xD Nah I think I'll aim for her practical sense alà "the more capable fighter against the Blight, the better" when bringing Oghren up as a constant companion. And that he is a capable fighter, Oghren had already proven to her in the DR. His behavior is more the issue for her, indeed.

At the risk of stating the obvious; dwarf + massive axe vs. darkspawn = win? Assuming your Warden has witnessed him fight, his prowess in combat would be tough to argue against if someone brought it up as a selling point (at least, it's always been my assumption that regardless of his sobriety, he's an excellent combatant).

There's also no guarantee he would remain in Orzammar (or part ways on the surface) even if your Warden refused to let him come along, right? It's Oghren! When has he ever gone any way but his own? X3

Edit: Derp, show me to walk away from the keyboard and not refresh before posting 8B

Oghren = guide in Deep Roads (if not companion once you leave Orzammar. You *can* tell him to leave once Paragon of Her Kind is over, and it's not against the rules for your Warden to not like an NPC then tell them to go away. :))

It's not so much the writing I'm uncertain of; it's capturing the characters and getting a feel for them.

If you (or anyone) would be interested in a brief 'lecture' on how to try and write good characterisation, I can post one. If not, ignore me and I'll spare my keyboard ;)

But good characterisation is something I've always felt strongly about in fanfics, so I love it when I see people are stopping to think about doing this effectively enough to give the NPCs justice.

@Raonar: Ah, I getcha now. :) The smaller, faster and more 'elegant' alternative, perhaps. Though I can just see some people/mages saying "Wands are for sissies." (Not Zevran, though. I'm sure he approves. No matter what he's being zapped for...)

Would it be egotistical of me to squee about fanart done for me as a birthday present based on my character in my fanfic?

Yes, by all means, please do!

If there's one thing that turns me away from fanfiction (whether writing or reading), it's being unable to properly grasp established personalities. While I understand that the characters are naturally going to take on slightly varied voices in the hands of different authors, I'm not always confident in my ability to notice when I've gone and crossed that line into OOC territory... T^T;

YEAH AIMO! I was thinking of commissioning her, but I figured it'd be too expensive. The one doing mine is Epantiras - she's another Bioware fan, she does good work.
