mmmhmmm, all good points indeed, but I still feel like I'm missing something important, some aspect of his character or personality that I am overlooking. I can sense it almost but at this moment in time I'm unable to verbalize it in a way to justify behavoir. It's there somewhere. Still a work in progress I guess. Thanks for the help. *hugz* Sometimes I over think things and then lose what I knew. LOL

Question: What's the name of the dwarven necropolis? In game, it's called the Dead Trenches, but that (I assume) refers to the fact that the Legion of the Dead have dug in there. I seem to recall Oghren giving the city where the great mausoleums were a name when he found Branka's notes. I couldn't find it in the codex or the wiki, but it might be just that I'm not searching correctly. Can any of you dwarven experts out there help?

Bownammar

Thanks!  I wondered if that was it, but the wiki entry for Bownammar described it as a fortress and didn't mention all the tombs which I thought of as its major characteristic.

I think Alistair's biggest problem is his indecisiveness. He only feels strongly and REALLY argues about Connor and Loghain. He tries to stay easygoing and nonthreatening with humour, which is probably a part of his unwillingness to be king. That's why hardening makes him look out for himself more.

Anyway. In my fic Alistair pretty much goes into 'king mode' as it were, quickly organizing who stays and who goes. Though that's in part due to me making the Warden's transformation ridiculously fast. Uhhh, the taint did it. Then he manages to Intimidate Swiftrunner when they first meet, then the rest of the party get a little suspicious of Zathrian. Once he finds out the truth, he gets pissed.

Yes Alistair in King mode is assertive verging on bossy in my fic.

Bownammar is the old Legion of the Dead fortress. Its loss was relatively recent according to the codex.

Zerban, I can't imagine that Alistair particularly likes being lied to, so that could be part of it. Especially when it applies to people getting justice and someone he cares about being harmed. Mostly the justice thing, though. He's all about justice-y stuff.

duh the hardening. *smacks herself in the head* Double Duh! LOL. I should have just reread my own reflections scrolls to figure that out, lmao.

Of course an afternoon of watching dragon age dance video's (on youtube) and laughing alot didn't help my thinking process, but it made me laugh :)

You know, after a week of being back to work I kind of miss being an unemployed student. I think I've gotten all of one paragraph written since last weekend.
I have half finished chapters for all three stories... and no energy to finish any of them.

All I could think of when I saw those was "Zevran, I expected much better from you."

The thriller one is fantastic, though...

Yeah the work week sucks the life out of me.  I rarely have anything left over on weeknights.

Lupus I hear ya! *HUGS* Work does suck the life out of me too. And I took a long weekend to pamper myself for my big 40, and I haven't been able to write much due to crap at home. I finally told my husband, just because I am home and you are working (he works from home) doesn't mean I am a slave and get to work around the house. I took the time off so I could play DA and write, and beta. None of which I have had much luck at.

Ok, so question about Flemeth. There seems to be a lot of implied evidence towards the idea she is a bad guy, but in the prologue, just after she rescues the PC, through certain dialogue options, one can get her to say that "After what this world has done to me, I have already done more than it deserves."

So what, exactly, do you think is her deal? Going by the books, she may seem like she has some sort of foresight (she tells Maric Loghain will betray him, each time worse than the last, and will even tell him a Blight will befall Ferelden after his death), but the other possibility may be she is maneuvering things from behind the scenes. She may or may no be involved in the Architect's existence and she obviously has magic that can do whatever with Old God souls (!).

So, is she a good guy or bad guy, do you think...? And it seems the Dalish.or some of them, are on more or less good terms with her, or something.

Personally, I consider Flemeth like a force of nature; neither inherently good or evil. Granted, there's not a lot to go on, and I haven't finished reading the Stolen Throne, so I'm only aware of the bare bones of her involvement with Maric and Loghain.

Thus far, though, I get the impression she wants to keep Thedas moving towards a certain tipping point, and has insinuated herself into each situation to be able to do so. I wonder whether or not her prophecy about Loghain was self-fulfilling on his part, and if his obsession about the Orlesians was bred by his worry that by giving them any ground, he would end up betraying Maric (or what he(they) had fought for).

I wonder the same thing about her motivations for tell Maric about the Blight - would he have gone to the Deep Roads in The Calling if he hadn't known of that threat? I haven't finished reading The Calling yet, either, so I'm floundering there XD; I don't care about spoilers for it, though.

She "saves" the Grey Warden treaties, though I wonder about that. Duncan makes a point of mentioning that only a Grey Warden could break the seals on the chest, and although the chest itself is broken when the Warden and co. stumble on it, Duncan seems to be under the impression that the seals would definitely have held this long.

Is there something that makes Flemeth similar to a Grey Warden? Or perhaps from the other side of the spectrum - a darkspawn, as the two are connected? Considering her knowledge of Old Gods, it makes me wonder if she wasn't one of the Tevinter Magisters who was originally taught by them, perhaps even one who was involved in the creation of the darkspawn, assuming that way of the telling is even remotely related to the truth.

Flemeth also supplies the group with something that will hide Alistair from the darkspawn by scent, but a Warden's connection to the darkspawn is mental; so why would a scent hide them? She definitely seems to know more about the darkspawn than she lets on, especially considering the ritual Morrigan deciphers from her Grimoire.

Nothing I've seen really points conclusively to her being good or evil. She seems to help, while at the same time condemning folks to their fates. ... Maker, this is long, lol. I'm so sorry, I got to thinking, which led to babbling... TAT; And I managed to not even really answer your question! XD; Sorry T_T; I'm sure most of my thoughts on Flemeth have already been rehashed a billion times by someone, somewhere, anyway... XD;

Flemeth claims...
to have had horrible things done to her by the world.
she's helped the world more than it deserves.
she's done plenty of horrible things deserving of her death.
a Blight/the taint could destroy even her.

Morrigan claims Flemeth...
is the true danger.
is neither abomination nor human.

I don't know if Flemeth is good or evil (Morrigan seems to think the latter, but Morrigan has reason to be biassed...plus she herself claims she was 'wrong' about what Flemeth was before, so she could be wrong again :P) or something in between. She makes no effort to claim innocence or guilt when confronted about Morrigan and just plays coy. She definitely has plans, of which we know next to nothing. So not a lot to go on.

I just hope that if we ever find out what Flemeth's intentions are, it ends up making sense for her to conceal so much. If she's just being 'mysterious' to ****** people off or for 'But you had to understand for yourself!' reasons I'm going to be disappointed. :P

@SOLD, I think you raise a good point about Morrigan possibly being wrong about Flemeth. If Morrigan's view of her plans is shaped by the grimoire we got from Flemeth, it could very easily be deliberately misleading. After all, Flemeth is perfectly willing to give it up without a fight, which suggests to me that nothing Morrigan finds there can actually be used against her.

As to why it has to be so mysterious...one possibility that occurs to me is that Flemeth has a great deal of knowledge of the future, but if she were to share that knowledge with others, it might cause them to deviate from the path their destiny is "supposed to" follow, which might have all kinds of unpredictable repercussions.

I also wonder why Morrigan has to be so mysterious about her own plans. In her case, I wonder if what she's hiding is actually her own ignorance. Maybe she doesn't really know what the OGB will do, only that it must be powerful and important for Flemeth's plans, so she's desperate to influence it herself.

Well, I think I just found an opportunity to give Tayte a more dominant personality. It only took making my pseudo-Medea ending to Redcliffe even more cruel and disturbing, allowing the demon inside Connor to nab Tayte and mind**** her.

I'm a little frightened that such a dark ending came naturally from how the characters felt about a special deal that Connor offers in my version of the story. Posted Image

Edit: The chapter I've been speaking of, the revised "Nightmare" chapter, is now up. Maker help us all.

I know you did a great job, and sometimes dark and disturbing is necessary. Like my watchtower ruins filled with dead people (including Arl Wulff) and a pregnant woman that had been stabbed with a sword through her stomach. Then some minor non damaging torture of Anora's man. It was a dark chapter, but necessary.

What are you talking about? Nightmares are good for the soul! For example - my OC wakes up in Denerim at night with eight dead people around him. Plus he's got Leliana's amulet wrapped around his arm, and the Warden comes to ask him where Leliana went.

Or there was that time he had a nightmare where the events of the fic had been an insane delusion and he was in an insane asylum. Then the demon inside him stabbed him in the eye with a needle.

Or that time during the Redcliffe defense where the zombies dragged him into Lake Calenhad and almost drowned him.

Or that time he had to use Blood Control on the Warden and was almost killed by a psychic backlash when he absorbed all her memories of Howe's attack on her family's castle.

... I am a sick person.
