Yes, Au means Alternate Universe.
As for The Rescue, it's Sialater's fanfiction

I don't feel nearly as bad about them when they're at the end of a chapter in a novel that's already written and published in its entirety. I mean, that way the reader can just go on merrily reading to find out what happens next. But... something in me just feels bad when it's at the end of a chapter in a serialized fic because it's making folks wait. It's just me, by the way, and a writing hangup I have. And an overly guilty conscience. I'm certainly not hammering on any other writer's way of writing.Raonar wrote...

@Glor: I'm sorry! I just... next chapter, it will be resolved, I promise. I just wanted to do something a certain way and that meant a cliffhanger... and, er, you'll see later today. I'm sure it doesn't help any, but I felt bad doing it. And then I cowered and waited for pitchforks and torches from an angry "you wrote another cliffhanger" mob.
Why on EARTH would you feel bad for it? Cliffhangers are awesome, as long as you don't take half a year to get the next chapter out.
I also have some scary readers. Seriously, some of the reviews? Scary. Lots of anger. At the characters, mostly, but... yeah. Bit scary.

And I write cliffhangers without even realizing they're cliffhangers until someone leaves a review that points it out. Not all the time, of course, and sometimes I do it knowingly. But usually it just happens because of how I structure chapters thematically and stylistically.

I know when I tried to defend myself and be all, "But I don't always write cliffhangers!" after someone asked me if it were humanly possible for me not to write a cliffhanger, I had to go back to chapter *thinks* six or seven of a 50+ chapter fic.
Okay, so that reviewer may have had a point.
I feel a little bad about the end to part one of my story, knowing that people will have to wait for 8 or 9 months for part two. But I thought it was better to get the first half up than to take almost two years to write both parts, not knowing if there'd even be an audience for it after that time. Even if people drift away from DA fandom, I think they'll read a second installment if they want to know how it ends.

@All responses to my question
My Mahariel Mage is not going to be chosen at the Tower in the traditional sense of the Magi Origin, He's going to be sent to fight with the mage contingent at Ostagar due to his aptitude with the more offensive casting plus his learning of the Sword and Staff mage combat style (CANON THANKS TO WITCH HUNT, BABY!). He'll be twenty eight years old, an Enchanter at the circle helping to teach Primal and spirit magic to higher level apprentices, and he's going to become infected with the taint during one of the battles before the final battle at Ostagar while fighting along side the Grey Warden contingent at the vanguard. The Wardens see his potential and put him through an emergency joining. And thus Mahariel Mage becomes a Warden! *banners and streamers*
I was also joking about him trying to help against Remille, that would be insanely mary stu-esque for an 11 year old to try and help some soldiers like Loghain and the King.... though I kind of do want him to meet Maric at some point (I personally have always admired Marics' growth [read:not his choice of places to have sex O.o] as a character and I want to have a reason for why my Warden would reaaally want to be able to keep Marics' Longsword rather than having Alistair keep it (until that bastard Eamon snatches it away as a legacy of the Theirin bloodline.... >.<))
Corker... I really want to lift that in some way to put a similar scene in my story.... It's just, I know that in the formative years being indoctrinated from a young age to believe that all humans are dangerous scum is going to take quite a bit of work to fix (Jowan, human teachers, fellow apprentices, people that come to the Tower) but I also think that since he's seen and lived in the outside world, he'd need examples from the wider world to see that not just those near the Tower are alright

And it's all the more challenging since the nearby non-mage humans have been indoctrinated from a young age to think that all mages are dangerous scum.
If you think the Tower has non-mage staff for the menial work, they're ideal. They actually work near the mages and probably realize they're not fanged monsters. Otherwise... I like Greagoir bunches, and I can imagine templars who - if not friendly with the mages - are at least... fair, and not unkind. Otherwise, feel free to borrow the little fisher boy. Glad you liked.

Remember that elderly mage who was getting Duncan's room ready? I don't think there are non-mage, chantry, or templar people in the circle tower. There was also that mage cleaning her own room, scrubbing floor. Now maybe it was just game mechanics but I don't think mages are in a position, or templars for that matter, to have servants or people not of their type that do menial labor.

I feel very, very lucky that DA2 didn't affect Part One except for some slight rewriting at the last minute to allow for DA2 to affect part two. Of course, it completely gutted the plot I had in mind for part two, but I have time to figure out how I'm going to change it after I play and discover just how much impact it will have. It's already necessitated a major change, though, and the timeline will probably be somewhat off. 'Remnants' is a bit AU anyway, since Alistair survived execution, and the plot evolves from that. Also, I've given the NPCs the freedom to have opinions that differ with the warden. But I'm trying to keep it as close as possible to game lore.Sialater wrote...
Are we allowing DA2 spoilers at all? Cause I really wanna whine about them making The Rescue AU.

'Tis true. Just checked it myself plus there is nothing that says the Fics etc have to be specifically about DAII:
"This forum is for owners of Dragon Age II to discuss their fan creations
(links to artwork, music, fan fiction, etc) as well as fan created mods
and modding discussion. We do not allow fan fiction posted on these
forums, but links to fan fiction are allowed. Reading fan fiction,
viewing art and using fan mods is done at your own risk. These are fan

So potentially we can all post links there.
