I noticed that some readers don't know the difference between self-insert and author surrogate (neither of which I am using in my writing).

What would that difference be? I freely admit to using a self-insert, but that isn't inherently bad.

Self insert is when the Author actually writes himself somehow getting into the story, while author surrogate is a character that exists to relay the author's opinions/thoughts but still an in-universa character.

I use neither, but I suppose people got the wrong itdea because my FF.net pen name was the same as that of the protagonist (Keep in mind that the FF.net account was made AFTER the story was started), so i went ahead and changed the Pen name to something else at least.

Oh yeah, what's the appropriate word for the sound made by a sharpening stone against a blade? I use scrape, but is there a better one?

Depends how good the blade is. If it's notched, smooth, rusty...an average sword I'd go wih scrape.

For context, a certain protagonist will start to vent his frustration on a poor, regular silverite longsword, by means of said sharpening stone. I just needed a confirmation, so thanks :D

I would have used snick or snicking, (a snick of the blade against the wet stone...) (the snicking of the blade against the wet stone filled the clearing) . Looked it up for you and this is the definition for that type of snick: a slight often metallic sound.

Aha, snick eh? I'll think about it. I'm guessing this is the same noise as when unsheathing a sword, yes?

If it's a vorpal blade, it should go snicker-snack.

LOL Maxernst and yes Raonar that's a perfect use of snick. That's the sound of metal clicking or running (scraping) across something, of course if the scabbard is made only of leather it wouldn't make that sound but many scabbards have other material that create that metallic click or snick noise. I prefer to just tuck my blades in my belt scabbard less. Hey are there two b's in scabbard? LOL. *drags out the dictionary again*

Edit: Of course, Raonar, if your character is grumpy the sound maybe be more of an irritating screeching than a gentle snick. ahahah. But that is no way to treat a blade. *shakes a finger at your character*

That's exactly why he bought a new, unused sword that has not been taken into battle and, thus, has not gathered emotional value and, hence, lacks a 'personality.' And, to be fair, the DN has a pretty good reason to be pissed (he found out Leske betrayed the DC by hiring thugs to ambush him in his own slum house in Dust Town. And since the prince sees the ex-brand (secretly) as his little brother, well... you get it.)\\

EDIT

Plus that, considering that Rica is practically the DN's sister in law, the DC kind of is the DN's little brother by definition. Heh.

But that may not be the worst of it... Supposing the GWs found out that Riordan died before Archie was taken down, how did both wardens survive?

Frankly said, my Warden gave a damn about that. She had defeated an Archdemon, ended the recent Blight with only her fellow Warden and her merry band. So if they mean to b*tch about such a detail, she will smile at them and tell them kindly to f*** off and to return when they have managed to do such a thing as well.

Ah yes, so I managed to get that chapter out with the workaround, and now I have bypassed the mild writer's block and am finally brimming with enthusiasm for the next installment... sort of.

Brotherly interaction FTW.

By the way, did you people see how suddenly the number of DA fanfictions skyrocketed? DA2 is causing a sort of ripple effect already.

What exactly is this workaround people are using? I haven't updated in months and now that I have a little something, I can't update. It's very frustrating!

I've also noted a considerable increase in hits, I thought DA2 would be bad for DAO FF but I'm seeing the reverse...

For Sanditigress... We all owe Dre...

Here's what I found for existing stories. It doesn't help me but maybe some of you it will. I'm trying to post a new story, heh.

All you needed to do was change the word "property" in the URL of the story editor to "content." So click on your fic like you normally would to add a chapter and while on the error page just change that word and it works.

Every person who has ever had a character who was not a Grey Warden in the game become a Grey Warden or die in their story due to Darkspawn Taint has been proven right by DA2. Apparently anyone who even comes into contact with the Taint that isnt necessary to keep alive *will* contract the Blight sickness... at least in regards to Companions and plot vehicles.

That being said..... Sten the Grey Warden?

In other news, now that my class requirement stuff is nearly done, I can focus on Suledin ~ My Mahariel Circle Mage story! Yay!!!

Oh, and I also have a short One Shot focusing on the final defense of Lothering as led by Ser Bryant and his valiant templars as they try to maintain a doomed holding action to allow the refugees to have a chance at escape. How does one go about posting fiction......?

At the moment, you CAN'T post anything on FF.net because you get error messages... and this has been going on for over a week I think.

Where have you been living anyway? the past two pages are essentially us moaning about our fates now that FF.net is crippled (again). Well, people moaned and i watched... eating imaginary popcorn.

Yes you can. The workaround isn't hard. When you get the error message, look at the URL. You will see the word 'property' in it. Replace that with 'content.' Enter that address. And there you go--access.

Yes, I know of THAT but it doesn't let you post NEW stories. Just add chapters to existing ones.

Thank you for posting the work around, I've been going nuts the past day or so to update Vigilance.
