I just realized most of the stories of the people on this thread are -probably- longer than The Calling (mine is LOADS longer... like, HUGE).

How interesting, yes?

I... think I had this conversation with an anonymous caller, once.

The difference is, Rao, that Gaider actually gets paid for what he writes :-p

The length of a story does not define greatness. *smirks*

LOL, I know of course :P I was just noticing that the game itself has like... 5x The Calling worth of plot/action or more.

Observation apropos of nothing more than I feel prolix: Sometimes you have to write just to get the words flowing again. What you write might not be any good, but you still need to write.

When I initially read The Calling during weekends at work, I was totally convinced Fiona and Duncan were going to be sweet on each by the end. But noooooooo, I was totally upset when Maric got involved. But luckily enough I got to the sad sad ending, and finally realized it was the "possible origin" of my favorite sarcastic bundle of nerves and well-kept hair. So Gaider was forgiven.

But I still hold that The Stolen Throne was the "possible origin" of my favorite dark-haired temptress. You must be this desperate to ride Flemeth's Rollercoaster of Disquieting Shame.

I agree. Write something --an outline, a swatch of dialogue, a random run of thoughts; something will dislodge the good stuff from wherever it's hiding. This is something I have to remind myself a lot --I seem to think that my readers are looking over my shoulder as I type or something, so that whatever appears on the screen must be perfect, or at least final-draft quality, or else I can't type it. Not, of course, true.

So...posted a new chapter yesterday after work. Still not showing. And signing in is down. If LJ ban manage to keep running almost without interruption, why the heck is FF so nonfunctional?

Good Morning (Or... Afternoon, depends who's where on the globe) everyone!

I've been lurking around here for... ever. Never posted because I'm shy like that, even on the internet. But hey, what's better than a thread full of writers? So here I am. De-lurking.

Errant, I haven't been able to LOGIN today. I hate this website.

I still can't login to fanfiction .net but the message is different today than it was yesterday. I'm not really sure what that means, but I bet it doesn't get a fix till tomorrow sometime. :)

Hellluuuuuu Ely :wizard:

Good to see you here too. Well it seems that it is working again now. I have been able to login just now. So try again. ;)

It seems that it is time to back-up my word-monster on another site. I thought "Archive of your own" would be nice for that. Anyone here who could invite me via email? Send me a PM, thanks.

If you sign up they're pretty fast about giving invites away- couple hours, sometimes. (I used my codes up the last time ffnet was down or I'd be happy to help.)

Lol we should make a drinking game out of this, though. I think we would slur dirty limericks in no time xD

@Lupus: Thanks I'll try that. So I can create an account there with my LJ-account or how is that OpenID thingie working?

Neither- that's dreamwidth that uses openid. For ao3 you just make a totally new ID.

Dreamwidth also ostensibly uses an invite code system, but they gave people of Thedas a workaround. (instructions here)

Thanks, Lupus. I've used a code of the thread and have an dreamwidth account now. As for AO3 I have applied now for an invitations code and simply wait. It's just three days anyway. And I know my own lazy bun, It will take ages for me to actually post the chapters there, anyway :P

Yes, thanks, Lupus! I've done the same --now just need to get my chapters transferred over. Sheesh.

There's an autotransfer feature from ffnet. Just post the URL to the first chapter of the story and it will pull everything over. You may need to tweak the notes, though. AO3 doesn't like author notes at the bottom, so it tends to duplicate the first few sentences of the chapter as a note at the top.

Actually I meant I've now got a Dreamwidth account using that link you provided. And now I have a stupid Dreamwidth question: is there a tracking system in it similar to the one on ff.net through which you can gauge traffic (hits/visitors) to your postings? Or can you only see subscriptions and comments? I looked at their FAQ and I couldn't find anything about it.

No stats... It's like livejournal, basically. Runs off the sane basic code.

What's kinda irking is that I actually had the most readers ever over the weekend. Which is nice. I like being read. I love reviews. Which were down. Arrrgh!
