Hehe, I remember the original banter from the game, and that's what I was thinking about in my previous post when I was talking about Alistair, actually :)

I don't mean Alistair is dumb or *especially* dense, just that he doesn't *always* catch on to what's really being said (eg. 'hopping borders'). :) Knowing Zevran though, I'm sure he's aware of exactly what angle to take in his playful mockeries to ensure Alistair does, or doesn't, understand. ;D There is hilarity to be found on both sides of that particular fence, and I agree that Zev's fun to write. And poking fun of Alistair is also fun to write. ;)

Exactly ^^ Alistair is far from being dense, just inexperienced. I can imagine being *confined* in a cloister for several years had that kind of effect. He was simply sheltered from such things. He is a quick learner, however ;) That being said, I hate stories where authors write him as a total idiot, especially in terms of fighting and tactics. He had (about) ten years of templar training after all, ffs.

As for Zev and Ali, I find that Alpha male rival thing both of them have going on, quite delicious xD

Hai gain wut r goin on in dis thred?

Levity aside, i'm having a bit of trouble writing a scene involving the legion of the dead and their organization in my latest chapter. I know that kardol has some choice lines about the way they're structured and that sigrun has some interesting stuff to say, but I don't exactly get how the units are commanded. Are there generals lurking somewhere? Or is everything at the kings whim? Dawiki is failing me >:(

I'm probably wrong, but I thought they attacked at the king's orders, but they likely fight (defend) on their own initiative as well as scout when and where ever they can.

Then I hope you are enjoying the chap I send you despite its grammar fail :P

Sorry can't help with your question though because I fail at dwarves ( Dalish writer here) But I have a question on my own, more narrative-wise.

As everyone knows here I had my trouble writing Leliana, which I have overcome within my last chapter. Said chapter contains part of her backstory and events of Leliana's song in her introspective and POV, also the ambush on the camp while the Wardens were away doing Warden stuff, yadda yadda. Now I have the confrontation of the happened events still in front of me, which means Leliana confessing her past toward Lenya in a talk etc.

Question is now, do I really need to bring up Leliana's whole past in the convo once more? Because I don't want to bore my readers with details that they already know, but prob here is Lenya doesn't know. So there has to be a Leliana's confession for closing that story arc. Basically I want to know now, if it would be better narrative-wise to reduce this talk to the minimum to not repeat myself?

I guess the answer is yes, but it would be nice to get some opinions on that either way, since I'm a bit unsure what to do with that part.

Merilsell: You don't have to type out the whole thing (most readers would ask that you not). Something like, "Lenya's eyes got wider as she listened to Leliana tell her tale about what had happened at the camp while they were stuck in the Tower" would work. Since the reader already knows, they can fill in the blanks, and meanwhile, you've shown that Leliana communicated everything to Lenya.

Lakhiz: I would think the King only has nominal control over them since they're "dead." He could probably tell them to do stuff and they'd obey, as long as it had something to do with killing darkspawn and reclaiming the Deep Roads. As for units, since there's no canon around telling us how the Legion of the Dead is organized, you could look up how the Roman Legion was organized and use their structure if you want (or any other ancient or middle ages army structure, for that matter). Just something that would make sense. Even though they're dead, if they're going to be effective, they'll need a solid command structure.

Wow that was quick. Yeah, I thought about something like that, mainly because I was too lazy to write the whole convo once more. lol. But it is always better to get a second opinion on that, especially when I'm unsure about a scene. So thanks, ma beta-awesome :D

Also *facepalm* Lakhiz, it is you. Why haven't I recognized it earlier? Welcome to the weird world of BSN, lol. *waves* FR sent ;)

Why? Continuity snarls?

Well, DA2 did completely nuke the ending I had planned since Alistair is still king 5 or 6 years later. So... revising THAT was complicated.

But I just meant it'll be odd to not be in Zevran's head any more on a daily basis.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It will be weird when I have finished my story one day and can't be in Lenya's head anymore.

As for the first thing, well I make it a bit simpler for me. Because I consider everything what happened in DA2 AU for me, actually. Lol. Mainly due to not much makes sense in there anyway, so yeah. My head-canon diverse a bit from the actual canon anyway (if there is such a thing at all), so I won't break out in cold sweat when Anders is not going to be *justified* in my stories, for example.

In one way I'm sort of glad that I started my fic after DA II, while I don't consider all of the story to be part of the universe I have set up, knowing what happened in the game allowed me to set up how my characters will be in the sequel. It's weird, I've already written two chapters for my sequel fic and I'm still in the middle of my first one.

I'm overthinking things aren't I?

I didn't really want to write an AU. Though... since I made Cullen a Grey Warden... that ship has sailed.

Oh gods, now we have to imagine what will happen in Krikwall without Cullen there. Odd that he turns out to be the only sane ranking templar there, right?

Nope.  I have a fix for that.  He'll still be right where he's supposed to be.  His motivations, however....

I was surprised by Cullen, and frankly impressed how he was handled. But I have hella respect for people who rise above whatever craptastic suff they've been through. Not everyone can do that, and in media like games there's the temptation for devs to do the obvious thing and turn the character into some sort of antagonist.

If Cullen's a teammate in DA3, I hope he gets bonuses to will power/stamina.

I doubt any characters would be teammates in DA3. they'd have to have some dialogue allusions to the previous game, and with the continuity snarls.

Then again, with how Linear DA2 was... meh. Anything can happen I guess.

That's the thing with bubbles. Either someone bursts it now, or it bursts on its own later. Bubbles tend to do that :D

Darned physics, right?

Gaider or Hepler will do that all by him/herself by hitting Cullen with the tradegy stick like they did Anders.

I would love for Cullen to show up again as a companion in DA III, but my hopes aren't up for that.

Speaking of which, did you guys see the leaked DLC achievements? I don't know what to think of them (They're on the DA wiki news article)

I can't say what I feel about anyone we've already seen being a companion in future DA games, because it seems like most characters we know are either (A) in Ferelden (B) killed by the plot no matter what or © already had the spotlight. If you had to ask me, we're getting a whole new cast in DA3. (I hope the linearity of DA2 and the fixed ending has brought enough instability to the world to allow multiple endings in DA3, or at least some future DA game.)

@Lakhi: The DLC achievements have told me two things so far:
1 - More enemy models/variety. Which means I can actually fight genlocks again, now that I know how the name is pronounced.
2 - Carver/Bethany users will be rewarded. Which is good news for me.

Anything else from me on the DA2 DLC is speculation, so I'll save that for a more DA2-related thread.
