Market research and a self-inventory of my goals. I've a vague intention of writing something For Real, and I'm not sure if I want to go straight fantasy, fantasy humor, or supernatural romance/erotica. (I've read one romance novel in my life; I need to understand that genre more before I think about pitching to it, I think...)

Very popular right now.  :wizard:

Yah.  Which is why if my goal inventory turns up "Get it sold," I may go that route.  I seem to fill a niche on the kmeme, anyhow.  :D

Such ambitious folks.  Image IPB  Break a leg.

Even if I thought I could, I have zero ambition to publish for reals.  Too much stress for too little reward.

Heh, that's the novel I have in revision right now.

I have no illusion about my writings. I do it for fun, for character exploration and all these nice things of "can" but not "must". Even if I would be creative and good enough for getting a theoretical original story of mine written and published, I think the editor of mine would freely commit suicide, wordy and slow as I am.

Also, I'd probably need to revert back to write in my native language (german) then. Oh teh horror. So no FF is it for me. And with that pace I'm writing I will be occupied until the world's end (2012) So yay. xD

Haha, you didn't know? :D

Yeah, I live in Essen. Which is in North Rhine-Westphalia. So pretty much west of Germany. I have no idea where Zweibruchen is, though. xD

Und auch einen guten Abend für dich, Eri ^^

Zweibruchen is two hours from the border of France. Near Frankfort.

Ooops, we're sliding off the page.

And now that TR's finished, my DA2 story seems to be lurking in the wings a lot more.

I wish mine would get more posts. They get hits, but posts not so much.

You mean people posting on your thread? Yeah, I found that irritating. One of the reasons I moved it to Ff.net.

Yeah, I post both places because some only read on the BSN.

I prefer FF-net for my FF reading needs, which is why I have my story only posted *there* The other reason is that I'm already 55 chapter in, so it would be kind of...ridiculous to start an OEaH-BSN- thread now. Also no need for additional dramaz. I'm still jaded from the one time where people jumped my neck and I need no repeat of that. Thank you very much.

I discuss writing in another forum too these days, since this thread is...kinda dead. *cues sad violin music*

Okay, then how about this topic?

Sequel hooks.

I have been getting weird ideas about things i will probably never write, but the basic idea is sequel-ish for what I'm doing now. If you lords and ladies ever get such plot ideas, do you insert sequel hooks in your current stories?

Honestly, I would be glad if I had the motivation for my current story atm. In the past five days I have written like ....one paragraph? And I plan to ditch this one too, because I hate it.

*sigh*

However if I ever write the Awakening sequel, I'm positively sure that my Warden won't recruit Justice. Just the mere thought of Lenya being confronted with the idea to recruit a Fade spirit and put it in a decaying body is cracking me up. Oh the face she would make at this request xD

Hence, no Justice-Anders for me either. *pause* ...I can live with that, though.

I've been putting things in my story, just in case. While i know I probably won't ever write a sequel, it never hurts to be prepared. :D

I didn't put in "hooks." Though I've started the sequel.

I never intended to write more than the one Dragon Age story. The muse had other ideas, though.

I set mine up as a three- or four-part serial, but each section is meant to stand more or less alone. The one thing that jumps out as a hook I could plant I may not - the Puzzle Ring of the Black Fox is a DA2 item for sale, and my protags will pick it up while in Volume 2 and it'll lead to adventure in Volume 3. But I can't readily see fitting in a "buying or finding the ring" scene into Volume 2, so it may just happen as Volume 3's opener: Hey, remember when we were in Kirkwall? It just so happens I found this neat ring there...

I don't place sequel hooks deliberately, that I'm aware of. If a story is going to leave itself open for a continuation that's one thing, but no...no setups. So far, at least.

My three stories are serial and have hooks, but it's partly the way they were conceived. I had the idea for the second story (to have Aedan in Orlais searching for Morrigan and recounting the blight story for Leliana so she could put it into song), and the first story was just a way of getting Aedan and Alistair to Orlais. The third story came about because of the way the second story ended. I do think the stories are independent enough to be read on their own, but the room for more narrative at the end of story 2 is obvious.

But it's only a 'hook' if it's done on purpose... Right?

PS and what does putting in a hook make one... Hmmm...
