I'm now remembering all the architecture stuff from The Pillars of the Earth. (Book version, not miniseries version.)

Me too!!!  I love that book. And I think of all I learned about masonry of the period and building cathedrals when I go to Ostagar or look at Kinloch Hold.

Does anyone have access to the Alistair break up dialogues after the Landsmeet? My toolset will not run and I badly need to see the actual lines for an unhardened Alistair breaking up with an Tabris warden.

No Anora. Ali is going to search for a fertile human noblewoman.

Yeah umm that's alot of copying and pasting. It's not something I can just throw out with out some work. hehe. Maybe you can find it on youtube? LOL.

Here's the first part:

Alistair: We... need to talk.
I don't really question why you did what you did. I didn't want to become king, and you knew that, but it had to be.
But... being king, that raises some questions about us. About you and me.

Warden:
a. What sorts of questions?
b. It doesn't need to impact on us at all.
c. I thought you were in love with me.
d. I wasn't aware there was a "you and me."

What I really need are his reasons for the break up. Is it just fertility and the need for an heir or does he ever say it's 'cause the Landsmeet would never accept an elf?

If it isn't readily accessible, then I guess I'll have to see why the toolset won't play nice with Win7.

K :) From what I can tell from the toolset there are no racial reasons. You just can't marry unless you are a human noble female. It's just because of the taint and his need to have a child to place on the throne.

=====
Alistair: First, there's the fact that both you and I are Grey Wardens. It's not just a question of obligation, but of blood. You know that Grey Wardens don't usually live to become old, right?

As king, I'll be required to have a child. Even more so because my death is assured. That's assuming that someone with the taint can or even should have a child.

I will need to find a wife, one who can bear a child. Who will live to raise it. I don't relish it, but... I will have a duty as the king.

(on why not being able to have a child together) Not with each other. Even one parent having tainted blood means having children is not recommended. All the Grey Wardens I knew with children had them before they joined the Order.

(when asked if he is suggesting your warden have child) No, I'm not. I mean... both of us have tainted blood. Both of us will die young.

=====

Is that what you were looking for? LOL. More than you asked for I'm sure hehe.

Edit: Of course one could argue that he doesn't bring all that up if you decide to marry him at the landsmeet as a human noble so in a sense that is racially related. It almost seems like he is willing to chance it for a human noble woman but not an elven woman. Or dwarf! *winks* I know sometimes you can convince him to still play with you, but like I said I haven't done an elf female to that point. hehe

That's it. Thankyouthankyouthankyou. I've only had that conversation once, on my very first complete playthrough when he dumped my poor Tabris. Now it's time to actually write it and I was afraid I didn't remember it all that well.

You are a lifesaver!

Oh and wow check out this line of Alistair's: "The taint in our blood... the taint we took in at the Joining... it will kill us in the long run. Grey Wardens maybe live to their forties at most, no longer."

Of course I think Alistair has to be a bit off on that because I believe Duncan was a bit older than forty, heh. What 20 year old doesn't think somebody who is forty is old? LOL

Duncan could have taken the Joining at an older age. But then... I don't know when the books say he did it.

And you still have to convince him to marry you as a HNF. My Emma Cousland had to do some convincing (and a persuade check) to get him to marry her.

Isn't Duncan 45 according to the toolset? (not that it's always reliable--Alistair is NOT 32!) Of course, that would still be in his forties, and he could be close to the end of the line.

@ Still a teen in "The Calling" and yet a full GW.

What would you guys say are the main traits of Leli's speech patterns?

Lilt is a good word for it, orlesian accent is another way to go about it.

I think Duncan is close to his Calling, yes. I think Riordan says that.

@maxenrst, I checked it recently for a fill and IIRC it was 42. (He was just a smidge younger than my 45-year old Amell.)

@Maria13, to me, she seems to ask a lot of rhetorical questions and then answer them herself. "And we wouldn't want that, would we? No, of course not. That would be terrible! It must be the gold shoes."

That age seemed about right. I would peg him at 45, myself. As for Leli, I see her flipping alot around the topics as well, like talking about Lenya in one sentence, then about shoes, over the Deep Roads and back to Lenya. She tends to ramble sometimes.

I have done that in my actual chapter and it confused the hell out of Alistair, which was such fun xD As for the speech pattern, Corker has it down with it. Add a few "no" and "yes" here and there at the end of her sentences and you are good to go.

I said Duncan was 50-ish. And yes he was close, Alistair mentions it too.

Okay The Calling was in 9:10 I think and Dragon Age Origins starts in 9:30 so... it all depends on how old Duncan really was in the Calling, right? hmmm... oh I sense a research reread of the book coming on. Aaaaaahhhh, another excuse to slack off on writing. I don't know what I'm gonna do with my non-writing self, if I don't become my writing self soon. LOL

If I'm remembering correctly, and I may not be, he is 18 in the Calling.

So anyways, I haven't found an exact age for Duncan but he's definately closer to being a teen than his mid twenties, I think I would go with 19 to 21. So if 20 years have passed he would be around 40, but he looks older. We never really get an idea of what the taint does to various wardens, I suppose it could possibly make them age more rapidly. Also I think I remember reading there was a time line issue and things weren't necessarily matching up between book timeline and game timeline. I guess as I look at Duncan I could see him being forty with being outdoors and in the deep roads, constantly on the move making his appearance appear more aged. The only thing that confuses it more is that he was in a position to recruit (according to the game) the city elf's mother. I suppose though he might not have been the commander then and if I remember he was made the second in command at the end of the calling. :)

Maric's POV during the dream part of The Calling practically gives the Age of 18 for Duncan, yes.
