I'm slooowly starting to move on my sequel again. If the main characters are the Witch Hunt Gang, but the action takes place in an AU Act 3 Kirkwall, should I post it in this forum or the DA2 forum?
There'll be spoilers for the quests "A New Path" and "Alone," but after that, Hawke goes all glowy-red and it will no longer track in-game events.

I would go for both, but I would put a warning about the DA2 spoilers at the beginning of the chapter and in the description, just in case somebody is trying to avoid spoilers for DA2

For instance, in the actual game, my Mahariel is a duel wielding warrior, because well, I love duel wielding spec. But as it makes no sense for a Dalish man to be so proficient with blades, I basically write him as an archer with some minimal dagger skill. I mean, why would you train your hunters to be warriors?
And then there's the matter of my main warden's name. It was given to him at the last minute because I couldn't think of anything else satisfactory and quite liked the sound of it. Only later did I realise that it's also the name of an a character in another fantasy world, albeit a fairly unknown one. It's not massively elvish sounding, either.
I've been referring to him simply as The Warden in my internet-published fic so far, but when I start my planned play-through fic, he's going to have to have a name. My dilemma is whether the name he's got is unknown enough that no-one will notice, or whether I should give him a new, better name. Also, it would feel quite odd renaming him after I've been referring to him as one thing in my head for so long. Anyone got any opinion on what I should do? >.<

Solution? I've replayed their games as I've said they went in the fics. That includes a name change. Meghan Shepard, in Loved, was based off the game of Moira Shepard. Well... I have Moira Surana in The Rescue. So, I figured that would get a little confusing. I'm replaying ME1 as Meghan, now, and will replay ME2 as I did in the fic. (Also useful so I can remind myself what I wanted to write.)

Have you played Witch Hunt yet?
I can certainly see a role for more heavily armed and armored fighters - guardians or heavies for a raid, take your pick - but I agree that calling them "hunters" instead of (say) Emerald Knights sounds... strange. Maybe it's a Dalish euphemism.
I'm all over the map with respect to playthroughs. "Birthright" started as a personal log of my DC's game, so tallies with all my in-game events. "Dragon's Claw" preserves all of my DE's important choices, although if I had it to do over again... I've rethought the logic that went into the Dark Ritual ending that one got, and I think either US or WC would be more fitting. But the Warden can't be in the story if she's dead, and Alistair already showed his face, so... DR it is.
My "Randy Rogues" kmeme series is only very, very vaguely based on my second playthrough, which was mostly really boring and the character didn't have much, well, character. I couldn't even tell you what most of my in-game decisions ended up being. The kmeme character, on the other hand, has her own fairly distinctive voice and has really taken off for me.
As I think I mentioned a few posts up, when I hit the events of DA2, I'm just going AU. I haven't actually played the f!mage Hawke who'll be appearing, and I don't think I even need to.

And no, I haven't played Witch Hunt yet- but the more I hear about it the more I realise I really need to! I'll have to finish Awakenings first, mind you.
Before I make the final decision on whether to re-name or not, let's see- does the name Arahad ring any bells with anyone?
This isn't the first time I've found a made-up name of mine is all ready in use. Some combinations of syllables are apparently more popular than others.

Interesting! Hrm. Maybe he'll slide back into duel wielding with some proficiency in archery, then.

Well...
Two characters in the same fictional universe. You must have a talent for this.

In DAO elven last names (surnames) are largely drawn from the Hebrew names of angels or variations thereof. Their first names are all over the map. Shianni is, however, the phonetic spelling of Hebrew for 'red'.
This is a wonderful resource for names.

Thanks for that. I was wondering about the elven names and never thought of hebrew. What about dwarven names?

Urgh, I know, Raonor- I was flipping through the LOTR appendix and lo and behold there were, not one, but two Arahads in the Dunedain geanology. But never mind- hebrew nomenclature does seem to have a nice elvish feel. I'm still not entirely sure I'm going to rename, mind you.

It really puts a nice bit of closure on a DE Warden, yes. (And a Morrimancer, I'm told, but can't say personally.)

I love that map. Down in the bottom left... Mont-de-glace. What's the story there? We're looking in a region that's full of things named "Sulfer Lakes" and "Sea of Ash," and it's got to be pretty bitterly cold if there's a mountain of ice (and it's down around the same latitude as the ice fields that the Chasind don't go into). And here's an Orlesian place-name.
Was it a one-time expedition of exploration? What'd they find? Did they make it back? Are they stll trapped there? Or is it some kind of crazy settlement? Why are they there? What's life on Ice Mountain like? Maybe it's a Circle Tower, doing super-duper crazy magic far, far away from innocent bystanders. There's an entire subgenre of movies (mostly horror) that involve dangerous research in remote and snowy places, neh?
Or scroll straight up to the top - the Donarks. I figure it's a jungle, based on its latitude. Jungle Dalish, maybe? Fighting qunari?
Arlathan Forest. The Black Fox disappeared into that, you know...
The Eyes of Nocen: look to be two promontories in Tevinter just across from Seheron. Perhaps the story of the noble, square-jawed Tevinter admiral who commands one of them, defending her people from the qunari... and oh, she's a blood mage with two thralls. Because that's just who the important people in Tevinter are.
Annnnyhow... those are the sort of things that catch my eye. But I think maps are great for finding writing ideas.

I suspect it might have been a DA2 change (Kirkwall being the City of Chains), although I don't recall anything in DA2 specifying Andoral as 'of Chains' or 'of Slaves'. I recall it being 'Chains' on the wiki though.

Sorry Raonar just improvising though I guess historically there have been many justifications for slavery along those lines, one imagines the Trevinters have it down pat.
