LOL, *hugs Maria13* what are you blushing for sweetie?

Though I am more of a man then my husband in so many ways. My mom was raised by her dad when her mom died. I have a decidedly guy take on many things. My husband would have made an excellent girl.

Oh, it's the same here...  I'm the toughie and he's the one who spoils the cat.

Oh, my...I'm like that, too. He spoils the dogs and I refuse. Many people say I think like a guy and have the same sense of humor...and if they didn't know better they would think I was. My husband is the one who makes me think of a woman...
He keeps threatening to get a sex change and I told him that was fine...then I would get too and we could be who we truely were. It really surprised me when he agreed, but we don't have that kind of money so we're not going to...in case you were wondering.
But we play D&D and DA:O...I play the males amd he plays the females...has been like that for 22 years now, our whole marriage.
Maybe we should start a group of people like us! Naw, it would likely be too small...lol Posted Image

@SRWill64, I think our group would be bigger than you think! My husband plays mostly girls on his games. Only one exception really Gilgamesh, and I think it is just because he likes the name. : D

@leeboi2 I would be happy to read for content for you. I just need to finish, Maker please, my latest chapter to Soulmates. When do you need it by?

Gonna whine for a bit.

There's little worse (in a fanfic context anyway) than posting something and not hearing a whimper back from your readers.  And as much as I <3 my beta, having her being the only person who reviews my chapters starts to feel like  your mom saying how wonderful and talented you are.  Know what I mean?

And I know she's not the only person, but damn.  In my last major endevor, I had at least half a dozen reviews stating that "I don't know why this doesn't have more reviews".  Thanks?

I think anyone who's willing to be honest about this whole fic thing will admit that part of why we do it is for the attention.  Writing is fun and all, but what's the point if you don't get any feedback?

Makes me wonder what I'm doing wrong.  :crying:

Okay, enough self-pity for one night.

Did I not review your last chapter? I'm incredibly lax. Going to do so right now :).

ROFL! I am so sorry odie! I will, I am writing Chapter 82, in between bouts of blushing and needing a cold shower, it has steamy bits. And I always have trouble writing those. So I have been preoccupied.

And what tasmen said? LMAO!   But I totally know what you mean sweetie. We do it for the attention.  And I am trying to read and review.  I feel bad, I haven't even been able to read Caged and give a review to the lovely Miri *hangs head in shame*:crying:

Much as I love FF.Net's reviewing system for the ease of which it allows readers to drop you a note, I can imagine it's also a source of great discouragement at times. As I think the very first post of this thread was saying, it's all too easy to put a heap of effort into a chapter/story, get little to no response, then feel like crap as a result.

Reviews are great...but don't let them be your driving force.

I think anyone who's willing to be honest about this whole fic thing
will admit that part of why we do it is for the attention.  Writing is
fun and all, but what's the point if you don't get any feedback?

Many readers won't review at all (or they will wait until the story is finished :) ). Before the intraweb, I wrote on A4 (complete with pictures!) and stapled the pages together for people in my class to read. I never got feedback (and they were terrible, so that's probably a good thing...), but I always got a buzz when I saw someone reading them. FF.Net at least has stat bars. ;)

Anyway...if you're writing for reviews and feedback but not getting any, I suppose there *is* no point. If you're writing because there's a story in your head that wants out, there's *every* reason to keep going. For the latter variety of author, reviews are just the icing.

And no matter how good you are, sometimes you'll produce something that won't garner a huge response...so don't give up just because of a dry spell. ;)

I'm not saying that's the only point, I was just complaining a bit 'cause my ego was feeling a bit bruised. I love the feedback I get from people in other avenues, even more so than reviews... but a stranger showing up and dropping their two cents is always nice :) Sorry, I didn't mean for my whining just to be about FF reviews, though I suppose it came off that way. I get other feedback, often of a more constructive nature, from other avenues.

@Shadow, I know I must have a lot of lurkers, the bars on FF tell me so. Man those bars are addictive to watch!

For me, the comments help keep me going. They add fuel to the writing fire and tell me people are enjoying what I'm writing. I don't write for the reviews, but they certainly help to encourage. I don't know how many times I've obsessed about something being wrong with a chapter because the # of reviews I received was down from previous chapters. Or how I've obsessed when someone I talk to on a regular basis does not bother to comment on the chapter to me even though I know they've read it. Doubts are EVIL. Fight the doubties and R&R please.

Indeed they are.  I'm incredibly lucky to have such a great support network when I'm writing. I have a ton of people I can spam prose at.  But still, those gremlins exist.  Sometimes I think it would be easier if I just didn't care.

I think part of my problem too is that my last two chapters, while important to the story, just weren't the scenes that are screaming at me to be written. And I'm presuming that reflects in the output. :/

Hopefully my Duncan POV glasses will help with that through the next section :D

A good support system is critical, I think. I've worked on other creative endeavors, like stage performances and art installations, and it's always in a big collaborative group where you're constantly cheering each other on and working together to create something amazing. And writing like this is so lonely compared to that. If I didn't have my little circle of writers I don't think I would have finished Prodigal or even started on my attempts at original.

The first thread at the top will tell you the rules. The the second thread Fanfiction Synopsis listing will help you put them on a list. And you start a new topic and post it. : D

Just because you're late to the party doesn't mean you can't gatecrash it :)
