Got to keep the thread on the first page! Also had a legitimate question, for those of you reading fanfics as well as writing them..



So I've started an Anders epic because I love him, but the number of hits is probably half that of what I got for Caged. I know I'm guilty of not reading fanfics that don't have Alistair in them, but I'll follow them if they're by someone I've already read. Which character do you AUTOMATICALLY click on when you want to read a fanfic? And which characters do you avoid like the plague?



I must admit I avoid Loghain fics, or I did until I read "The Summer Sword".

I always check out the Zev fics, and usually the Nate and Loghain fics. I try to find original fics without specific characters as well. Alistair fics and OC's I only read if someone recommends them or if they are written by an author I already follow.



I will recommend Danijou's "Duncanless Origin fics" she has some really neat characters. Her art is very good too.

Miri1984 I love most of them. I don't really avoid any characters. Loghain is last on my list. Anders I adore. And again, I apologize, I haven't checked your Anders fic yet. I am so bad! Also, it is niceer weather for the Northern Hemisphere, and I think a lot of people are out and about and don't sit down to read as much. Not like the Winter time anyway. But I am really, really sorry I haven't been reading like I should. I promise I will.

Hmm...I at first I was going to say there are no characters I'd actively avoid, which is sort of true...I suppose I can be picky with pairings. Cullen especially. I'd easily overlook any Cullen romances in favour of, say, Al or Zev. I'd steer clear of Sten romances as well. XD.



Really though, I don't care which NPCs are in a fic so long as they are characterised well. If there's one thing I don't like, it's character assassination.



As for Anders, maybe fewer readers could be partially due to fewer people having played Awakenings? I had some friends ask me only a couple of days ago if the expansion was worth the price. I think they decided they'd wait until the bugs were fixed.

For me personally Miri, for some reason I was surprised that Caged ended where it did. I got the notification of you posting your Anders story, and I was like "What happened to Caged?!" Sometimes if my brain gets gummed up like that, it'll take me awhile to move on to The Next Big Thing. Right now my plan is to pick up your Anders fic while I'm at work looking for something to read.

Well be aware that stats on ffnet right now?  They are a bit borked.  Mine have been messed up since yesterday.  Also, no matter what the new story, stats do seem to go down after you finish an established story.  Mine went down when I finished 'Duty' and started the 'Enemy'.  So I think seeing some drop is normal.

Right now the characters that will get an auto click from me are Nathaniel, Loghain and Zevran.  If a story is Cousie/Alistair or Sten, I have to admit, I'm liable NOT to click on it unless it comes as a recommendation from someone I know or it's written by someone I enjoy reading.  This doesn't mean I don't love Cousland and Alistair, I'm just tired of seeing that particular pairing, I suppose.

My stat crack has been borked at ZERO since Thurday. And it is killing me!   It got hosed last month too for four days

Agreed, there is just so much Alistair and Cousland that I prefer something different.  I like Alistair, it's just that he has such an overwhelming amount of FF.  I confess that Zev is still my favorite character, mostly because of his depth, so I do have to check out the Zev fics.  Nate and Anders are my favorite characters in Awakenings - Nate has a bit part in my own fic and Anders has demanded a bigger role.

Oldie, I have to admit, I really, really wasn't happy with the ending of Caged either. I don't think it should have ended there. To be honest, what I think should have happened with Caged was have the ending on the wedding night (or a fluffy morning after) and then done the Alim assassination/Isolde and Eamon part as a separate story. Unfortunately I'd already put them both together in my head and it was too difficult to extricate them. I will do a re-write eventually, but I was at that stage where I just had to finish it or I would delete the whole lot .

Oh no deleting the whole lot! Caged is too popular! But I know how you feel Miri!984 about having to having something so melded you cant undo them. Like the Gordian Knot. No untying, only cutting. Bleh!

Yes, I considered taking it down but I knew I'd get some hefty complaints . I thought it would be better if I finished it then had a break for a while before going back and fixing what I think was wrong. I might still leave the original there though, to remind me not to get ahead of myself before I've worked out all the ins and outs of the plot.

Well all I can say is I still love Caged, so it didn't take away from it for me ( I snuck a peek, though I am not even half way through, I know I shouldn't have but I did. ).

Aw, you are a doll, Maria13! And you have no reason to be jealous. You are a far better writer than me, not matter what the bars say. Your writing is superb! So much talent on this forum, and because of you all, I started writing.

I figured it couldn't be just me. Ladyamesindy's are working fine. The hit or miss thing is really true. Mine did this last month too for about four days. I figured I can't be at zero. ROFL.

I think it was more that it fetl more like you were building up to Part 2 of the story (Part 1 being rescueing Miranda and her becoming queen).  And then... it was just over.  You left us with two pregnant women, one of which being a very sneaky Isolde who I could totally see trying to sneak back to Orlais or something (and Eamon helping her, not because he's evil but because she's still his wife and at the end of the day he wants her to live, not be executed for treason).  Zevran was starting to get up and around, but I was curious to see where things would go between him and Alim.  Would he stay in Denerim?  Would he freak out once Alim told him that he loved him (meaning when he's *concious* this time) or would he come to accept it and remain at his side?

I dunno, like I said, I was just shocked to learn you'd finished it., and those are the two main reasons why.

Just give up on sleep, that's what I do.  I lived on 4 hours a night for 8 years in college, I can do it again.  Yawns and falls asleep on keyboard. 

Seriously, I think most of us have difficulty finding extra time.  I usually write in the evening after the kids are in bed (and I frequently miss some sleep).

But, it's Sunday here and I'm not working or on call - Yay.  Armed with chai tea and bribes for the kids, Tanith works on her next chapter.
