I use an A5 pad with different sections and pages you date at the top, because usally I'm not writing just one chap but I may get some inspiration for something that happens in the future so I jot it down on another dated page and may add to it later.

Interesting.

I've started writing my first fic and after writing a general outline and making notes for the main characters I began fleshing out the first scene. I was actually doing so with PEN and PAPER!

I believe it will be chapter 20 in the end and I also had ideas for chapter 17 and 21. And here I always thought you start writing with chapter 1. How naive.

I'm a pen and paper user too - i take a journal to work and write in my lunch hour or on the train home. Then I put it on  the laptop when I get back (if its part of a story). I try to write in order but it doesn't always go where you want it to. I really love buying journals (Moleskines....yum) but any will do.
I'll go now I've revealed my paper fetish to the world

When I'm not in a secluded place with my laptop I write on paper in a code that's a bastardized version of the Greek alphabet. It allows for some privacy. I write it as fast as normal handwriting, but even I can't read it at anywhere approaching normal reading speed.

LOL too write with pen and paper, especially ideas that pop in. Or the character that comes by and starts talking. Ali is always one to lighten the mood. I had Nan the other day.

Dear, sweet, cranky Nan. She is a pip. And MireliA I too have a paper fetish...Posted Image

Sometimes it helps to channel Anders to the boss "Good luck with that..."

ROFL Maria!

I do wish I had a laptop though. If only to take it into my art studio with all the window to look outside.

My stats seem to be working fine. o_O Wonder what's going on?

I used to write with pen and paper, but now I only do if I don't have access to a computer. If my commute to work was longer then I'd write the old fashioned way, like I used to a few jobs back.

Well hearing they work for some doesn't bode well for them fixing the problem for those of us they do not work for,

Ach! i have this Problem, Queen Fiona and Morrigan constantly complain about my scene descriptions! plus sten hates the way i describe him:

Sten: This passage is inaccurate "Sten stood proudly and drove the darkspawn back" Qunari do not show pride! it is against the principles of the Qun to express Pride!

Westie: Welll....eerrrrr what about  Sten stood Tall?  Posted Image

Sten: Do not quit your daily profession scribe! Posted Image

Morrigan: and seriously "the  tall icy spires of andraste's tomb" tis most pretentious!!!Posted Image

Fiona: And lets not forget the fact i always end up in armour when im in your stories!! just once id like to wear a comfy dress just once!!! Posted Image

Westie: Arrrrrghhhh!!! you people are impossible to please!!! that does it my next fanfic your all going to be wearing polka dot dresses! Posted Image

Fiona: Yay Posted Image

Morrigan: Can we kill him sten? lets kill him! Posted Image

Sten: A soldier of the Beresad Does not wear...polka dots Posted Image

My characters don't talk to me, it's more a movie in my head that I write down mostly. Alas I am boring.

Someone told me once that if your characters don't talk to you, you shoudn't even bother writing, not even fanfic.   She was a bit of a nutter (understatement of the year, there!) one of those "My experience is the only TRUE experience, yours is cleraly wrong if it's different" types. :pinched:  Can't say that I cried a lot of tears when she stopped hanging around the place online that I do.

I'm much more of a scene/movie person myself.  The characters may pipe up and say things that I didn't quite expect, but they don't sit around badgering me or having conversations - and, for the record, it's okay if that's what your creative process is like!  Different strokes and all that.

Maybe it would be different if they were my characters, but I sure don't lay claim on any of the ones I'm writing about if I'm writing fanfic.  If they were my "brain children" then that might be a different story.

Yeah it's definately a movie to me. Sometimes when I'm typing it out the characters will say different things, but it's very dialogue heavy in my head.

My best dialog comes to me like this.  If I can't see the scene in my head as a movie, I have a very hard time writing it (and usually end up throwing it out).  My characters do talk to me though - that's how we ended up back in Denerim and not traveling through Orlais - Zev did not want to go to Orlais (not quite sure why -maybe he'll tell me later).

Sometimes I have a sequence that I can visualize two different scenes for and that is hard - trying to decide which one to use.
