Fanfiction Sucks

I have outlines for three different book series on a fantasy world I built (with my own take on the effect of magic on evolution). I have chapters written for all of these and an over arcing concept dealing with the corruption of good intentions that weaves through them all. I have been working on these for more than 20 years and all I have are snippets done. ARGH.

Hehe...early-year writing attempts as campfire horror stories.

I'll bring the S'mores.

Checked, no response. I have emailed them before they probably hate me. I feel like I am bugging them all the time.

Tas - Nice XD
I just went to pull out some of my old stuff and yeah...the pain!
My characters/friends were subjected to the following in the space of one story:
1 - being shipwrecked on a small island while en route to California
2 - being captured by talking Bengal tigers (apparently the island was large enough to support over a thousand of them).
3 - one of the characters was crowned 'Tiger King', another 'The Chosen One' and a third was inexplicably selected to die by being strung above a snake pit
4 - the characters all escape the tigers and are very briefly pursued by Daleks before climbing a banana tree to evade them
5 - Then they escape the island by getting back on the boat, which they somehow got working again.
Good times
Edit - Oh, wait, the tigers didn't talk. They had communicators that *allowed* people to understand them. Like Star Trek. Or maybe the Babelfish. Either way, they were very clever kitties.
I SOOOO want to read this now

I also wrote a massive fantasy epic which I actually wouldn't mind revisiting but I don't know where it is now - I printed it all out on my incredibly high-tech dot-matrix printer and put it somewhere but I don't know exactly where. SOOO derivative though - it was one part LOTR, one part The Fionavar Tapestry and three parts SIMPLY AWFUL

You can take characters places YOU want them to go rather than having to let the story lie
Fair enough. I guess it's just a change of mindset for me. I spent years playing on a Neverwinter Nights server, where everyone who chose to roleplay and post stories of their characters to the forums was adding to that world. In that situation, I thoroughly enjoyed writing for my characters, but in a singleplayer game like Dragon Age, it feels a bit odd. But to each their own, of course :-)
I do completely understand the emotional attachment people have developed with the world of Thedas. It's an amazing setting, and I do find myself wanting to experience it at a deeper level. I want to read stories about the Circle brotherhoods, and the Chantrys history and the various cultures that exist.

Shadow was right to call me on being a b****. So welcome, and I am very glad you didn't let me chase you off. I would have felt so guilty! Okay, guiltier than I feel already.

I did similar, posting stories of my characters on a forum where the server was an RP-based Ultima Online world. Good fun!

My stats are working, but I wonder if it's all you heavy traffic authors who are having problems. I'd take that as compliment
As I've not put anything up there for heading towards 2 weeks and mine aren't working either still, I'd say not
And as for the part-finished stories, I have a part-finished Vampire novel set in the city I used to live in, lost somewhere. Thats probably the best place for it

Twinkly vampires suck. I much prefer sexy vampires a la Charlain Harris

Not denying they're not sexy in the TV series though, just that the books are LULZ.

see I think the Harris books are sucky too. I prefer my vampires in the flavour of how they come in the Dresden Files.

Carmilla...
I think most modern vampires are a little silly. I don't mind the sexualization of the myths, but modern authors should take a look back before they decide how to go about it.
Edit: This said, Butcher does at least cursory research before writing. I have trouble getting through his books, but I do really like his vampires. Also, in the short-lived Dresden TV series... excellent casting of Bianca, IMO.
