Although I agree that most fan fiction sucks, its nothing to upset me, I just don't read it. However, I think its cool that people are writing things they are passionate about and maybe 1 in a 10000 will write something amazing. I'll wait for that 1 in a 10000. My cousin grew up reading Forgotten Realms stuff and wrote fan fiction growing up and now he has a few Forgotten realms novels in the bookstores. All power to you writers.
If you don't read any of it...how are you going to find that 1 in 10000? Wait until Bioware/EA releases the rights to have it published?
Yes to your last question! haha I thought it was implied.
the amazing stories should be amazing enough to be published for me to read (on official websites even). Im not saying there aren't some amazing stories out there, Im just lazy and unwilling enough to go through all the bad writing to find it.

I love it when people write one-shots. It means I can get a taste of them without wading through 40000 words first. Most of the fanfic writers I read I've come to through reading their one-shots.

I say, when in doubt go with Buffy:
XANDER: Why blood? Why Dawn's blood? I mean, why couldn't it be like a, a lymph ritual?
SPIKE: 'Cause it's always got to be blood.
XANDER: We're not actually discussing dinner right now.
SPIKE: Blood is life, lackbrain. Why do you think we eat it? It's what keeps you going. Makes you warm. Makes you hard. Makes you other than dead. (quietly) Course it's her blood.
The question is not about potency, but about what you would actually do with it if you had a mage's phylactery. I'm having trouble even coming up with generalizations, wracking my brainmeats something fierce.
I don't think Spike's answer is restricted to potency, though of course for many men, potency is life, power and everything flowing from that. The first thing Spike says is that blood is LIFE (bible). So you have someone's blood you have absolute power over them. If I were a templar with a mage's phylactary, I wouldn't only use it to trace them, I would try to use it to weaken and enchant them. Perhaps a special dispensation from the Chantry can be obtained to do just that for especially dangerous fugitive mages?

So the phylactery is ... a bit of blood magic? (Did anyone say this already, I didn't read any further, I had to get my thoughts out now.) Oh, sweet hypocrisy.
I was looking for something like this for my story. There was a little plot hole explaining as to ... how ... and why ... things work. And now I have a wonderful idea. Oh, I do.
You are so inspiring.
Damn, the idea is growing into a monster. Now the Chantry could be involved in ... evil things ... and stuff.
