Bob-san, I hope you share, it has been a long time since I played tabletop, I would love to start again but I have neither the time, nor the people to play with.

well, I'll probably post session notes on my gaming blog @ diceandmen.wordpress.com

But the story I'm doing somewhat based on what I designed for the game.  The focus will be on characters that are not from the game, namely a new batch of warden recruits not yet put through the Joining.  I do plan to have cameos and the like of the main characters.  Part 1 will introduce them to a degree through the eyes of King Alistair, one week after DA:O ends.  Based on what I'm thinking of personalities for the characters, my brain has a Zevran line I need to work in:

"You did ask them to send you their best, my friend.  But since their best was sent to fight the archdemon a week ago, it looks like you now got the best of what they had left.  More's the pity."

LOL bob-san, great line- absolutely Zev.  I'll have to check out your blog.  I love non-OC stuff, not to say there isn't great OC FF out there, I just like the creativity that occurs when people take a basic idea and run with it.

I would be interested in a tabletop DAO game. But much like our D&D games, it gets difficult to find people. I wish there was a good way to do it online. We've tried with IRC and it gets very confusing. You also lose a lot by not being in the same room as all the other players. I may follow your game sessions, just to see how it goes.

Well, the DA:O session is just a one-off for a freind's birthday. A means to 'scratch an itch' I've had since I got hooked on DA:O

My main campaign however (D&D 3.5), will still be posted there. I did post a couple entries with a mix of fic and non-fic (now that I'm typing this and remembering). But it was written ages ago and not really the best. But feel free to stroll over and take a look if you like. I like readers :)

Indeed. It's always nice to get ideas. I'm DM'ing one game at the moment, though it's kind of on hold. I'm one of those terrible people that does terrible things to her players. XD Though, to be fair, I save the worst stuff for my own char and the characters do get rewarded for it.

bob-san, I checked out your blog, the campaign of the "company of the combustible commode" looks like it was lots of fun. The last tabletop I played was a rolemaster campaign where my character ended up a pseudovamipire with a blood wolf companion, then I had kids and my tabletop days ended. I haven't played D&D in the last 10 years - I had forgotten how much fun a good campaign could be.

Yeah I write fanfic for this fandom... Mostly about my warden as she's awesome. She is! So there.

I too love table tops but as LadyD said, it is so hard to get people together. *pouts*

bob-san, I LOVE that Zev line. So funny, and so Zev.

You would think, given the sheer number of geeks involved, that SOMEONE would have come up with a good way to do this online.

I think online tabletop play lacks the banter of face to face. Not to say that it can't be fun, but really, rolling the dice and saying whatever comes to mind (in character of course) over a beer or two is the essence of tabletop play. The most memorable moments my characters ever had were "shoot from the hip" moments in the course of the game. I think this is hard to achieve without face to face interaction.

True Tanith! Some of the best moments of 'funny,' have been over alcoholic beverages and in character one liners face to face.

TanithAeyrs: Actually, the Company game is what I'll be restarting in a few weeks. The story arc ended nicely and we had to put in on hiatus for about 2 years. But now, arc 2 begins shortly. I'll try and keep session summaries up-to-date on the site if it interests folks.

And I agree with you on the matter that gaming really is a face-to-face social thing. I've done RPing online long ago and that wasn't too bad. But that was more free-form and not actual P@P. However, actual RPgs are far more entertaining in person. If people have trouble finding groups, I always recommend checking out boards at local gaming stores (If there are any in your area). Places like that always have some kind of advertisement.

Though I suppose Real life tends to get in the way more often than not.

Gilgamesh1138: Thanks :D I have another bit of dialogue between Alistair and Zev regarding rope and a crabby young Orleisan mage. Just gotta crank out that prologue first.

I would assume any online thing would involve at least a voice component. With skype and whatnot, it shouldn't be too bad. B/c, yes, the funniest moments are banter between the group. Just text does not work, this I know. It may never be possible, but it doesn't make me wish for it any less.

I love RP. :) I've done it tabletop style, forum-based and in a player-run RP Ultima Online shard. They all have their pros and cons, but I think that even though I still liked forum-based RP it was my least favourite because it could just be too slow and grind to a standstill. Face to face and *realtime* RP was much more fun, if only because it was spontaneous and you could get all the out of character silliness and sniggering. :) In the UO shard we would tend to have the game running for (almost) all the in character jazz, then an IRC channel for laughing at each other (then we also had a forum for journal entries based on game logs).

*sigh* Good times...very good times.

Man, I haven't been on this forum for a while now.  Glad to see that there are still some angst-ridden fan fiction writers out there.

My piece as stalled, and I'm taking a hiatus because of a lack of feedback, my own ambivalence on exactly how I want it to end...and oh, this thesis I've got to write (though I’ve been spending most of my time blogging about other stuff than writing about what I’m supposed to be writing about). :innocent:

I'm pretty jealous of you prolific writers out there – if it makes you happy and keeps you creative, keep it up! :D

I think its great that there are so many great writers on these forums because it gives you something that you can try to measure ur work against, and gives you something to look up to!!

how do you get the recognition on the forums though, and how can you get people to read your fan fic?

is it simply a matter of people knowing each other and then checking out their stuff?

Having good material is a start, but I think you're right about getting the right audience to generate traffic,the_gmole ...plus giving feedback to others always helps. Have to give what you get.

EtteStarz,I would be glad to read and give you feedback. Is your story here? FF? I am always looking for new stuff to read.

Love to readd yours too the-gmole! I like supporting others. There are really talented people on this forum and FF.

Wonderful, Gilgamesh!  First, you've got to tell me what kind of story you're into...from what I've seen of my FF trends, it's pretty evenly split between those who leave after reading just one chapter and those who read the entire thing.  So, it seems that you either are into the story or not based on the first chapter's set-up.

I've actually blogged about this fan fiction experience, primarily how challenging it is because of the fandom is so diverse.  Sure, other writers out there will say that you should write for yourself but at the same time, you’ve got to consider the readership’s expectations as well as the staying within the existing canon’s parameters.

It’s a fine balance and this is why I find feedback helpful (as I’m sure other writers do too but I can only speak for myself).

I will read just about anything. I love DA: O stories, obviously, ME stories, shorts, epics. I am addicted to the written word. So lay it on me. What you got, I say bring it! : D

My own is epic. 73 Chapters and going. So, if you want to brave it, feel free. But you don't have to. I do have some fans on FF who have been with me from the beginning when I started. I have new fans who finally caught up on all the chapters. Some fell off as they started playing the Awakeings or ME2 and dont' have the time for both FF and game playing.

But like I said, if you are on FF, give your penname and I will start reading. Also on my authors notes on FF, I give shout outs to authors and their works. I love feedback, so I try and spread the love. : D

Ooo...I get a fan fiction guru as a reviewer.  The fates finally conspire in my favor – or not since you have yet to read it.

Anyway, the links are here.  The forum links have my illustrations for the different chapters but the actual story is on FF.  I'm envisioning a graphic novel version but I’ve got to finish the story first:pinched:

I'll be glad to return the reviewing favor - I've got my thesis to write but I've been able to rework the timeline to something more manageable.  In between translating and writing “academicese,” I'm revising some of my creative pieces (apparently my latest haiku wasn't esoteric enough for one reviewer) as well reviewing a colleague's work for her MFA application portfolio.

Oh, the only problem with me reviewing anything is that I haven’t played ME or Awakenings yet.  Since I'm fairly new to the fan fiction genre, I'm not sure I will be helpful in a lot of areas like I have no idea what lemon, limes, slash or whatnots mean so I'm completely useless there.

Yeah, I know what the heck am I doing writing DAO fan fiction, right?  I actually finished the mage and the noble origin stories – does that count?  Plus, I do like old school epics. :kissing:

Lack of reviews does tend to make one doubt oneself. I'll admit to being bad b/c I don't review myself. I either like something or I don't. I suppose that means I shouldn't complain when people do the same thing to my stuff. XD

Well, I haven't even gotten to Awakenings really in my story, except to barely touch on it in the last few chapters. So, no worries. I will be checking out your stuff! YAY! More to read. And I have no idea what lemon, limes, slash means either. *shrugs*

As to reading mine, take your time. It is on this site and on FF. "Soulmates" under Gilgamesh1138 here, and under the penname Erynnar on FF. I would link, but I am a better writer than I am a computer whiz. *sigh* I will try and to put it in for you later. On the fanfic snynopsis you will find the links thanks to Shadow of Light Dragon.
