Oh wow... I should have looked here much sooner for other fanfic writers! Just reading the last couple pages has been such a "wow, I'm not the only one" feeling. So glad everyone is a slave to their stats bar and alert emails like I am. I've actually looked at the chapters where I got the most/least reviews and tried to see what I did or didn't do in them, to figure out what people might have liked or disliked.

So, delurking to say hi. My current story, Apostates of Amaranthine on ff.net, is an Amell/Anders one (although it's mostly Amell, since it's not really a romance).

Welcome, Lupa.

This was the first one I wrote, it basically ends where Awakening does.   This is my current post-game story.  I'm always on edge about it since I've been introducing a lot of original characters and making up my own plot.

I started writing it when I took a creative writing class in college last semester.  I went back to finish my degree after being laid off, and hadn't done any creative writing at in about fifteen years, so I figured I could use some extra practice.  My class was never particularly helpful with the constructive criticism aspect of things, and the massive obvious age gap between all of them and me didn't help, so I wanted to try and write for a broader audience in the hopes that someone would give honest feedback.  Not that ff.net is much better since most people only post positive reviews, but I’ve actually gotten some really helpful tips and advice via email from readers, which was great.

Oh sweetie, I feel you. Same here for not writing in say fifteen years. And I too decided to write a fic that introduces a lot of new characters and a plot of my own making. I went backwards and I am now writing a noble origin (along side the other).

I have had invaluable help from this community, so you came to the right place! Thanks for the links, I love new reading material. ^_^

I just jumped over to FF.net and put you on favs, alerts, and the like.  Anyone who uses 'hurly-burly,' and lights incense to Shakespeare is a person I want to read and follow!:wub::wub:

'Tis a good feeling to stand at the top of a mountain and look down at what's been accomplished.

My fic is complete at roughly 125,000 words. I am happy. ^_^

@Lupus- hi and welcome - I see Gil has already issued you the requisite tools for this thread. will check out your story when I finish my chapter.

@Gil - Angsty pants make you look feisty and fabulous.

congrats on completing the hunt! when I approach the last two chapters of DDW I'll buy me a bottle of mini moet and drink it with a straw.

OKKAYYYYY so. I know what I want to write, but I don't want to write it. Does that make sense? does this mean it'll suck? I've had a few chapters like that recently. Could I lie on the sofa with my yapdog Barbra Cartland style and dictate to a harassed secretary to type things out for me? Please?

Bonbons and sherry should be involved also, i've decided.

@Shadow! I am so thrilled for you! Congrats! *grabs a glass of bubbly to join you and Miri*

@Tanith, yay for angsty pants then! For you angst lovers, posting the larder scene with super angst tonight.

@Soignee, happens all the time, and no, it doesn't mean it will suck. In fact, some of those kinds of chapters had the highest stats, go figure. And dictating it to some harassed secretary sound faboo some days. oh... sherry and bonbons...yum. Maybe we can lounge together?

@soignee - ROFLMAO - priceless link. I think we all need to have a secretary, bonbons and sherry. And don't worry about the chapter, I've had that happen quite a few times - sometimes I think the chapters I struggle with actually turn out better.

Mines started moving again. *mutters darkly under breath about stoopid FF.net people checking the BSN boards making me look stoopid*.

Ok rant over. And you know we love you anyway, oh great controller of the stats board. ^_^

You have to sacrifice things to the stats bars every now and then to keep them happy. Plastic trolls are a favourite.

Every time mine breaks I wonder if everyone just suddenly stopped reading. It usually takes a bit before I realize it's a technical foul-up.

But you can't do that to plastic trolls. They are so cute and plasticky and troll like!

*Thinks she should shut up as she doesn't want everyone to think she has a thing for plastic trolls*. :pinched:

And yes, I thought that no-one was reading my stories as well, Lupa.

am I the only one that doesn't do the stat bar thing? it seems fairly inaccurate and breaks all the time, so I just get over excited about reviews and favourites.

I'm with you soignee, I only check the stats bar once in a while.  I do get excited when I get a review or a favorite story though.  Story alerts are great too.
