I didn't mind Tali in the first game. Mind you I wouldn't have listed her among my favourite characters but she was alright. I do admit that the fanatic spam drenched mania surrounding her has tainted that charcter for me and any feelings of like or ambivalence that I had for her have dissipated. So much so that I am hoping in the next game that Tali has a Virmire moment. A full five minutes of Tali exploding in slow motion from multiple angles all culmulating to the final shot of a lone chicken foot hitting the floor and bouncing once or twice in slo-mo. Can't wait.
By BioWare caving into the Talimances in ME2 this group now thinks that it has some power within the development of the game. Also other character fanatics have seen the effect of Tali threads had on the ME2 and think that them doing the same will yeild the same results. Not a good precedent imo and is incentive for fan groups to spam this forum. One thing is that this forum has become less of a "Mass Effect 2 Official Campaign Quests and Storylines (Spoilers Warning)" and more of a character fan forum. I sort of wish BioWare would create a seperate forum for character appreciation or relegate/herd most of those discussions into the group section of the Social Network.
Great point about overzealous spammers having this bizarre sense of entitlement in terms of where the game should go (development-wise). The dedicated 'Tali' thread title really says it all - "It's up to us...", which is essentially an invitation/implicit encouragement to go nuts with their antics.
Oh, and a brief response to the argument that it's "lame" for letting someone else's opinion to affect your own. Specifically, letting some fans' opinions alter your like/dislike of in-game characters. Whether it's lame or not, or suggestive of a weak personality, is up in the air. The reality of it is, though, that it happens.
Here's a completely hypothetical and extreme example intended to rub certain people the wrong way (preemptive pun).
I like root beer. I turn on the television and discover a channel aptly named 'Pedophiles who love root beer'. I don't like it, find its existence offensive, and choose not to watch it. So, I intentionally watch other channels but sooner or later discover that the 'Pedophiles who love root beer' channel is constantly advertising subscription on every other channel. This inevitably leads to a negative association with the product in question, in this case, root beer. I may have liked root beer, but now, it's invariably tainted for me.
Basically, this scenario is playing out on this forum, vis-a-vis, 'Tali' drones and some, perhaps, former fans/others.
