Going back to the original NWN and the story line with aribeth as well as some of the other NPC's It was anticipated that the next NWN would carry on the continuing storyline allowing everyone to pick up on the original relationships they had worked hard to acquire. Then when the new one came out nothing remotely close was in it as was the next and the next. Hopefully as DAO progresses they will allow us the opportunity to build on existing relationships from game to game keeping our characters intrigued by future events. How many of you were disappointed at the change in storylines from one NWN to the next and How do you feel some of those NPC's compare with these. Go ahead dust off the grey matter and try to remember your favorites.

I did actually like the Aarin romance in NwN, his voice actor was very good, and his story was interesting(this was before the whole dead girlfriend thing became a trend). Typically, I prefer the story to continue with the same character I made, because I get attached to my characters, and attached to the NPCs.
Unfortunately with DA, I don't think that's how the story will go, new games will likely be in far different sections of the world. But maybe one or two expansions will keep the same characters and PC, then when they make a new game in the franchise, they'll wipe the board and start over. I'd be okay with that.

The change from first NWN to the next can also be explained by the change from Bioware to Obsidian.
Sure, we like to see how the characters we have learned to know have evolved, but for DAO, just imagine all the implications. There are so many choices, so many people you can kill or not, romances or quest you can choose to fulfill or not. How could a sequel to the first game encompass all the possibilities? It would almost be infinite work, and for what? There is also joy in discovering new characters.
But I agree, some characters, that are central to the plot (like Aribeth) have a destiny that is relatively untouched by the player, and developers could reuse these characters when they are popular.

It would be nice if when you go into a new game and meet a character from the previous game your reactions would come into play from that game ie an enemy is still an enemy and would recognize you. of course you would have to be playing your original character maybe as an upload into the new game and all there baggage would come with them.

Yes, it would be nice, but I would like new romance possibilities as well, in a new game I'd feel obliged to continue a romance I already did (of course, in a game world).
For me, it would be unnecessary, and maybe it's not worth the job for the devs, as it almost require people to play the first game, don't attracting new ones.

It would be nice I guess, but i doubt it'll happen, because i think the devs plan to fully explore the world of Thedas. So next game might take place in the Imperium fifty years later for example. We might get some info from our DA:O playthrough to upload into the sequel, and some characters might make cameos, but i think that'll be the extent of it.
Think more like the transition from KotOR to KotOR 2, if you've played those games, rather than BG to BG 2.
Anyway, this is pure speculation, of course. They haven't said anything about DA:O 2 other than it'll very likely exist and that some work had been started on it.

I have mixed feelings on Aribeth, on one hand I loved her, mainly when she was a protagonist. But when she betreyed her faith and went evil, I really really hated her. Then they brought her back in the Hordes of the Underdark expansion and allowed you to help her redeem her soul from hell. That made me very happy.
The way I think things will work with this, since apparently there are much more grandiose plans for the IP then just the PC/Console games, is that there will be that one, maybe two characters that are like brand icons that you will probably see everywhere (ie Dritz from Forgotten Realms lore) and they will be the ones the fans connect with when they play the pen and paper Dragon Age and read the Dragon Age novels and play the future games or related paraphernalia in whatever form they take.
I think the games could follow the ideology of the Mass Effect games in the sense that your particular character being known from past exploits in future expansions/games to NPCs and possibly the way the story plays out depending on the relationships you made. While it sounds like a daunting task, it seems very simplistic when you look at the other IPs that Bioware is working on and the complexity of the storylines (ie Star Wars: The Old Republic).
Anyway thats my 2 cents...

Aribeth was a romance? I thought she was a stripper-paladin multiclass.

To me Aribeth felt alittle "Unnecessary" in hordes of the underdark, It really didn't bother me though her presence, it just felt like she was just there for the sake of being "there". Not much unlike playing Zelda, Twilight Princess on the Wii in comparison to playing it on the gamecube. It/She was a entertaining reasonless novelty. Though I still suppose this is all just my opinion... for some this may have been the height of romantic perfection(or gaming perfection)... And I shant say lowly on them for it...
Now, If we wanna get into romances that mattered in games, How about those cat fights between Virconia and Aerie... That, Brought a smile to my face and warmth to my heart watching those... good times...
Possibly like the times I may enjoy between Leliana and Morrigan... Better be sure to take both of them in your party...

First Jaheira, then Aribeth, followed by Bastila, but now I am torn between Leliana and Morrigan. Is there a formal name for the strong/flawed female NPC carefully crafted by Bioware for my PC to romance? Is the accent integral?
