Can I patch ME1 with the two patches WITHOUT losing any progress to some unforeseen compatibility issues?

ME1: 1.01a + 1.02 patches in mid-game = OK?

Game patches are considered fair game for collection and archiving on very many game-oriented web sites, so all of the ME patches are out there.
The OP was in the wrong forum.
For the OP, it isn't necessary to patch with both, and I think the one you want is 1.02 Each patch contains all of the previous patch fixes - the contents are cumulative.
ME-2's own second patch is hanging fire somewhere.
