What is a good armor build to have? I don't know if i should go with strength or shields more. those seem like the only two really useful buffs armor gives you.

P.S. wth is armor type? 2 playthroughs and i still don't know what it's for

Depends what your philosophy of what armor should be.

Do you want an armor that gives out extra damage?

Or extra health or shields?

btw I think what you mean with Armor type is the different pieces you get for armor. Instead of buying a full suit, you buy pieces of one, like the chest-piece, shoulder, gauntlets, helmet, etc.

Armor type, if you pre-ordered your game or got Dragon Age: Origins, then you have a couple different options. Terminus Armor is cool, but kinda ugly I feel.

My build is geared towards shield since I'm playing as a sentinel

Helmet: Sentry Interface 5% shield

Chest: Shield Harness 5% shield

Shoulders: Amplifier Plates, no clue if there's one for shield 5% power dmg.

Arms: Heavy Damping Gauntlets: 5% shield

Legs: N7 Greaves 3% Shield

Sometimes just coz it looks cool I'll have my Shepard rock the Recon Hood, or the Visor.

I think BW added a lot personalization with the coloring options but took down what all the items can really do compared to me1. Sometimes it feels like my Shepard came straight from Jurassic Park with the green red and yellow.

Where do you get the amplifier plates, and Shield harness?

All armour parts are bought in shops on hub worlds: Omega, Illium, Citadel and Tuchanka.

Parts that interest Jaymo147 can be found on Tuchanka. It's better to do a quest from the trader for a discount.

I usually go for shields and power damage on my armor pieces for my Sentinel. It kind of depends on your class but I'd say that shield bonuses are more valuable since once they're gone you're almost dead.

Blood Dragon Armor provides the best Power Damage/Shields combo, but if you lack that N7 Armor can get up to +13% power damage and +8% shields with the Umbra Visor Dr. Pepper DLC and the right armor pieces (you won't get your last +5% shields until Tuchanka opens up, and the last +5% power damage waits until Illium).

I kinda wish there were more armour pieces, and a better way to create the ideal suit of armour... the bonuses each piece of armour offers is very minimal; almost insignificant. Without the sentry interface, you can only increase your shields by 12%, so what's that... surviving an extra two bullets?

+13%, actually. :-)

Yeah, I agree that the N7 armor is very, very weak. -10% shield regeneration delay? That's, what? A half a second? Please. +10% storm speed? Double that. +10% ammo? Ditto. The bonuses need a +50% (shields and health) or +100% (most everything else) increase across the board, with the exception of the +damage and +power damage ones which are fine as-is.

The ammo bonus is really useful if your playing one of the SMG classes, I never ran out of bullets once I started using it. . .

However I do agree we need more armor options, preferably free ones. . . DLC is really nice. . .

I think the best thing that could happen however is just adding the armor selector to the mission startup, you get to adjust weapons, and level up classes but not grab your armor upgrades?

Being able to change armor at the start of the mission would be awesome, agree I'd love that tweak. Also I'd like any new piece of DLC to come with new armor choices, and possibly weapon choices.

If I am playing a character with a power that gives you bonus shields based on how much shielding you already have, I'll wear shield-bonus gear to get the most out of the power. This is pretty handy with Vanguard and Charge, or anybody using Barrier.

Or anybody combining Barrier AND Charge!

Would always go with the armor with shield bonuses but the pieces look bad to me

Powers like Barrier/Geth Shield Boost/Fortification as well as Tech Armor or Charge are not affected by gear or research. They only give you up to 100% of your base shields that is to say a maximum of 250 hit points.

I typically go for +power damage items if i use Engineer/Adept type classes and +Weapon damage items when Soldier type, filling the other slots with +Health items.

I've found that in any difficulty and any class that your shields are paper thin so theres little point in added more to it when health seems more viable too add to and all passive abilities increase it.

Um, some of the pieces are imho some of the best in the game, you just seem to have the worst ones there.  The shield harness chest piece, power amplifying shoulder pads, stabilizer gauntlets and the life support leggings (can't remember the actual names) are the best in the game, better than the bonuses you get for the other armour types at any rate.

Amp plates are found on Illiums store. The shield harness is found in one of the stores (maybe Tuchanka) after the collector ship mission.

Also N7 armor weak? lol please
-10% Shield Regneration rate should not be underestimated.
Neither should the strength boost pads.

Most of the armors can be recreated through N7 armor. The only two truly unique armors outside the N7 is the collector and the blood dragon armor.

With the exception of the melee boost shoulders, I dont find the armor makes a lick of difference whatever you do. Its there for the pretty colors.

Im sure it *does* make some mathematical difference, but its rarely anything you really feel.

Agreed. That's why I always have N7 armor, no unnecessary crap on your head etc.

The defensive armor setups are probably pointless to have equipped on the harder difficulties. No amount of shields will last long under enemy fire. The offensive armor setups for damage on the other hand are probably much more useful.

I only play Adept, so it's fairly easy to just use Blood Dragon Armor, I also love the look of it.

I can barely remember what I use for my N7 combo, but it does have a Recon Hood on it.

Competely false. Most enemies can be killed easily especially when they get stunned from flames, newtons, overload or ice.

Having high survivability allows you to walk around to better positions and shoot for longer periods of time.

And contratrary to popular belief, certain classes CAN survive for some time under fire even under insanity.

For me at least, I feel a slight difference whenever I spec my Sentinel or Vanguard differently.

Actually Terminus is unique in the fact that it gives 15% Shields, 10% ammo to all guns, and increase in sprint spead, you can't get all three with N7 YET, if you go for 15% shields you can't get the 10% ammo or vice versa.

eh, it gets the runner up as far as uniqueness goes after blood dragon, N7,and collector armor but you make a good point.
