Good job, Bioware

Good job, Bioware. People have problems with one of your A-list titles and instead of showing appreciation for them for buying your game, you outright tell them that you're not going to fix it and you "might" consider this as a potential issue in the next Mass Effect game. It wouldn't have been hard to fix, right? Give an option to make the text bigger and have the game automatically scroll the text upwards so that people can read it all. That's hard, right? I mean, at least put out a good reason why you won't fix it as opposed to a lame cop-out like, " we have determined that while this issue does affect a small portion of
SDTV owners." Maybe it didn't hit you right away, but those SDTV owners are still paying customers and you just effectively told them to f*** off (editing because certain words are obviously bad for your health) because they're not good enough. I recall there being a big recall thing with Toyota recently over a potentially huge safety problem in some of their cars. Toyota didn't say, "Oh, you didn't spend more than $40,000 on one of our cars so you're not good enough to have yours repaired," they just outright recalled things because it was a big enough issue to fix. I admit the difference between game text and the safety of a human being is huge and... well, there is no comparison, but the logic is still legit. Don't hurt your paying customers just because they're not making enough money to use your product in a way that you want them to.
You really should have asked Microsoft to put a new requirement on the game box. "Must have HD monitor of 19" or larger to read text efficiently." Only then would everyone have known how ultra-serious this game is and you might've sold even more copies.
Personally, after waiting forever to get ME1, I was thoroughly impressed and instantly wanted to get ME2 when it came out. That doesn't happen often in these days of MW2 and such. Now..... I think I can wait a while. I'm rather confused, though. The instant the DA:O PC issue came up with aspect ratio and different widescreen resolutions, people were all over that and it got fixed really quickly. Is that because someone didn't want to offend ATI and Matrox with their surround gaming stuff or because someone really does care about the fans? 'Cuz I'm thinking the former.
I really do like your games, BW, but B.S. responses like that make me want to think otherwise.

What part of the above statement do you not understand? Any way to address it would have far reaching changes in the game. It does not get any clearer than that. What you see as something easy to fix, it obviously isn't.
The time, money, and effort spent going back over the game to do the changes are not worth it. They've got their manpower on other priorities. They've heard the complaints, they weighed their options, and they've decided to fix it is just not feasible. No amount of complaints is going to change that fact, especially since there are ways for the user themselves to fix the issue. (Even though these solutions may not be worth it to you.)

I registered so I could post in the small text topic, but since I'm seemingly not good enough to post in it yet, I'm reduced to making a new topic. I understand that some people will find it "annoying," (OMG itz soooo annoying that this random person made a new topic that I'm not forced to read) but I figure it was the best thing to do. If anyone's to blame, let's blame.... the snow. Yeah, the snow that hammered the east coast and is still coming down in torrents, giving me one hell of a shoveling job today. That sounds about as equally ridiculous as this whole response to the in-game text.

They lure you in to buy a game. They peddle the best wares they can. They fail to tell you you can't use it with your gear. "Sorry, no refunds." "But I can't even use the product!" "Not our problem the game works fine as we have sold it. We aren't responsible for not telling you that your gear won't work or that there are minimum requirements to use it."
Lets not forget the folks with disabilities they are screwed because of a design flaw. Technically policy to prevent piracy is, "open packages can only be exchanged for the same product" "But I didn't know I couldn't read it until I tried!" "Not our problem, you opened the package."
Products being sold in most countries are expected to be accessible to everyone as a rule. If they aren't, it is expected to be mentioned that it may be unusable by individuals. At the very least put the damn hardware requirements on the box (my xbox version does not state a specific requirement for hardware) and then you have cause to tell them to go eff themselves.
Now, as consumers, it is our responsibility to make sure these things don't continue to happen. We can do this a few different ways. We can stop supporting the companies that pull this crap. We can report their practices to the various agencies. We can file complaints to various protection agencies as this can be considered a civil liberties issue (those with disabilities) and the like.
Just posting on a forum won't change anything however. Everyone needs to step up and do their part. I already sent a couple of letters and I was sure to include copies of the official word from the folks making the official statements.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Make sure you don't squeak to people that like the noise or don't care about the noise. Squeak to the people that hate it and can make a difference.
Stock holders hate squeaky wheels. Stock holders consider squeaks to detract from the value of their machine and rightly so.
Squeak, squeak, squeak...

That said, it's not a bug like someone said, it's a design. But a design is meant to be legible or it fails. So chalk it up to a recent design trend - small text. As for the SDTV option, that's kind of your fault. On the back of the box, it says the game supports 720 and 1080 displays. You can deduce from that information that it'll look like **** on lesser displays. The 360 is a 1080p system and I haven't seen one game in the last 2 years that is legible or looks good on an SDTV. Halo, Modern Warfare 2, etc. All illegible.
HDTVs are expensive but people who spent the money on them (me, for example) to have a great gaming experience, are going to **** because it looks bad. Text has to be rendered at 1080p because if it's not, it'll be too blurry on high-def screens too.
Game developers are artists, they don't want their product looking like **** because you don't want to upgrade. Take your lumps or get a cheap HDTV at Wal-Mart for $300. You already spent that much on your system and your games, so save up and enjoy the experience.

The small text was less of a concern for me. Sure it was hard to read but I make my eyes work with everything I read. Light text on a light background is one of those things you need to slap someone upside the head over though.
Also the 360 isn't a purely 1080p system. If you had one of the older models you didn't even get a HDMI port and had to muddle with composite. Further the system has cables for s-video and even good old RCA. This was decided upon even in the age of HDTV.
You can easily have readable text on a standard def system. The beauty of the game isn't being taken away from by doing so. They just chose to design it based on what they had on hand rather than what looks good across the board.
A simple drop shadow or decent anti-aliasing would have been nice. I feel bad for folks with disabilities. I can't stand the size of the text even on the new monitor I picked up last week.
Simply put Bioware fumbled the ball and aren't trying to recover it... like a Madden game... wait... EA... THAT is where I have seen this before

They even made a prototype to try to fix it
Jessie H a Bioware guy said:
"There are certain technical limitations as to how much and what you can fix in a Title Update. This particular issue when we investigated the fix (and made a prototype) showed to not be supported by the Title Update system (imposed by the folks over at Microsoft) therefor are unable to fix it."
