What? Duncan in the party? Oh, please. The bloody darkspawn would just turn around and retire should this happen. We all know he's now enjoying the sun somewhere on a remote beach of Antiva, with a lot of ladies around him...

Hey I recognise you. Taking time off from BG to play DA?;)

Nuh... not anymore at least. I mean, I got all the achievements I could and if I would want to have more... I should buy the DLCs. But I can't neither make a PayPal account nor pay with my debit card on this site! RAARGH!

Umm... I am sorry, but... ehh... who are you? There are quite a lot of members, and appearentely you changed names.
Edit : you don't happen to be one of the old super-gods of the Baldur's Gate forums with a different name, no?
also, I just finished a BG multiplayer run with my brother. Very fun game.

I could be frabjous, Humanoid_Taifun, Irrbloss, Jah77, etc.

Spoiler

Edit: Damn, spoilers tag didn't work around these parts!

An enemy soldier? I'd rather call him a new god among the darkspawn!

Alright.   It's time to  state what we all KNOW to be true, but are too cowardly to openly admit:

Duncan is a  pathetic  weakling.  If he came back as a darkspawn, he'd be nothing more than a low ranking Hurlock..  For god sakes, he struggles to  slay an ogre, then he himself gets killed by a Genlock from behind -- probably from one swing of an Axe.    To put things in perspective, by the time your own character is, say,  10th level,   you DON'T have that hard of a time killing 1 ogre  in front of you and then the Genlock behind you.  You certainly don't get yourself KILLED from such an encounter....   Unless you're a Pathetic Weakling.

Actually, he wouldn't come back as a genlock anymore then he would come back as a dwarf. Genlocks are a race, they are born genlocks.

No, Duncan would be technically be a ghoul. Of course I'm sure the bioware team could think of something cool to do with him, even if they need to bend lore a bit or create new lore to explain it.

That said, Duncan only got taken down after killing 27 Dragons being riddin by double dong Ogres.... who weakened him enough so that the ogre you saw in the cutscene killed him.

It's in the codex.

All Lies.

If Duncan was such a superman, he would have walked into the kitchen in the Human noble origin and said: "Hey Mr. Cousland, I went ahead and took care of ALL of Howe's men for you. I then buried them  and now flowers are growing around your castle. Say, can I have your son and wife  now?  Or do I have to burn this place  to ashes  with my flaming dagger?

Why would I do that?

To get his armor.

Even if he's "dead" right now, I'm absolutely sure he'll show up again later in the story, be in DA2 or in a future DLC/EP. And probably as an enemy...

If you have read Duncan's past in the book, you wouldn't have mistaken him for a pathetic weakling. Cailan was weak, Duncan was just overhelmed by the death of his king - which he knew for a loong time, and his father was his friend.

He knew for a long time? But he says he doesn't know him that much in the Human Noble Origin. As for the father... I understand they knew from the book... what was it, the Calling?

Bregan who? Wait, don't tell me, I don't want to know.

Still, don't you think it would be extreme should Duncan be alive? I mean, if Alistair killed Loghain for Duncan... uhmm... that would make Alistair a murderer, and not just a murderer, but a hero killer.

Even if Duncan was alive, he was only a month or so away from receiving his "Calling". (Read the book, it's where old Grey Wardens succumb to the taint and slowly go mad, choosing instead to die in battle with darkspawn rather than turn into one)

By now, he'd be a darkspawn himself or would have fought to his death to prevent the calling from taking him.

unless the "gods" say so, and ignoring their own canon, Duncan should be quite dead.

Remember that Wardens are supposed to be already immune to the taint, provided they survived the initial ritual.

So him coming back as a darkspawn is quite unlikely. If the developers say he is back as a darkspawn, that would make each Warden susceptible to the taint at all time. Kind of voidng the whole point of the initiation, no?

Wardens aren't immune to the taint. The taint slowly eats them from within. Perhaps it makes the immune to the touch of blood, but ultimately, like Alistair said, it's a death sentence.

Return to Ostagar

Your memories of the battle of Ostagar will haunt you for years to come. It laid waste to your order and claimed the lives of many great men and women, including the brash young King Cailan and your mentor, Duncan.

Begone you literate person!
How dare you read stuff and form an educated opinion!?!
How dare you try and squash people's hopes, when the lack of a body proves not only that Duncan lived, but also the majority of soldiers that fought at Ostagar!

edit: stupid typos. Hit an O instead of an I and suddenly lived becomes loved...

Who says that Duncan can't be undead?

Well, if he's undead, then that rules out the possibility that he's alive, doesn't it.

Read "The Calling" and then you will know what the Architect is capable of and what can happen to captured Grey Wardens. I do not know whether or not we will see Duncan again, but I suspect if we do, it won't be in time to rescue him and frolick arund with him as a party member. I am expecting Awakening to be a LOT darker than Origins.

He's dead, insane from the taint, or undead.

Given the circumstances, I think it cheapens things if you find him at all (other than his corpse). And I don't see why you'd have to see his blood splattered all over the hurlok's axe when it fades out after you see it taking a death blow at him to think he did something other than die from it.

I personally think it would be a big cheat to see him again at all. *shrugs*

Duncan was the commander in Fereldan, nothing more he is barely even that important to be completely honest.

How so, he was commander of the Wardens in Ferelden, a position that will be taken up again by your PC if you play Awakening.

Thats what I am expecting..all we found is his weapons.   He was important enough to perhaps corrupt?   Be put to good use perhaps in the Architect's armies?   Anyway we'll see.

Speculating is still fun..:)

They aren't immune..they have 30 years.   Once that time is up...they go to the Deep Roads, to die there fighting Darkspawn.     Eventually the taint overtakes them, and they become ghouls.   Thats the reason they head for the Deep Roads prior to the transformation.    People would just kill them on sight anyways.
