Assuming Alistair can be in our party in Awakening, that is. I hope if we do encounter Duncan at some stage, there will an emotionally charged discussion with Alistair about it, whether he is in the party or not.

IF we encounter Duncan I doubt that he will be a party member,  my way of thinking is...he'll be on the opposing side.  Which could cause some problems for Alistair..being that he looked up to the man.

Duncan is immortal.

he was born in Highever of Felderan, and he can not die.
unless you take his head, and with it; his power.

there can be only one.

Yup..no body, no armor..no bones left behind....but Cailan is visible.  Duncan was fairly important in the scheme of things, the darkspawn knew who he was.   Wouldn't surprise me if the Architect found a use for him, made him one of his generals or some such.

And..I think coming up against the changed Duncan in battle would be something else.....heh

One other thing...Duncan's watch fire...did anyone actually click on that? If you do next time you are in RTO ...read what it says. I think the darkspawn definitely knew who Duncan was.

if he's still alive why would he leave his weapons there? the only explanation would be he is dragged away or rescued by someone while he's unconscious.

oh btw, it's very likely that even the writers at Bioware don't know what the are gonna do with him yet, so if you wanna see him again, keep posting threads like this B)

if he survived then he could be any were but the axe that cut through his head could not have missed so it is a fifty fifty chanse but it would be handy if he was alive.

Ahh but the scene very conveniently cuts off..goes white and blank..as you see the axe whooshing through the air.  We don't know if it connected...that "knowledge" is left hanging.

It is "assumed" that Duncan died at Ostagar, but as yet we don't have proof.   And if he was taken away, of course his weapons would be left in the offending ogre.

And why would the darkspawn pass up the opportunity to pass around Duncan's nifty armor amongst themselves.   Seems to me, that was the fate of some other important armor there..at Ostagar. :)

I have been meaning to take the audio from that and put it into a video of Dragon Age Duncan. Never got round to doing that though.

If Duncn is dead he could still be seen in the fade?

I hope not.

Duncan's death/Loghain's 'betrayal' was a great twist/motivator for both you and Alistair to soldier forth and protect Ferelden. That kind of story driver is not something you should turn around and spit at by claiming a 'miraculous' return. There are far too many questions to answer for his continued survival, especially considering it is strongly implied he was sconned in the face with a two-handed axe while already gravely wounded and completely unarmed.

Dragon Age's story is far too young to be grasping at these kinds of novel straws. Save it for when you're desperate, just so people can tell.

Don't the souls rejoin with the maker once someone is dead? If he could be seen in the fade, I'd rather say it would be an illusion. After all, Fade Duncan met in the game isn't really him, but rather a demon.

It is known that the Fade is the relam of illusions. The demons there shape it as they see thru the people's feelings the outside world. They don't know the outside world in person. So the demon must have known the Warden's feelings for Duncan, and tried to control the Warden with that illusion.

So either Duncan is deeead, or a darkspwan if he missed his Calling. But there is not chance of him still being human. Even Alistair said Duncan was considering on going to the Deep Roads.

I haven't played RtO so I have a question for those who did: did you recover Duncan's dagger from the battleground? The reason I ask is...

***SPOILER ALERT : DON'T CONTINUE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE CALLING SPOILERS ***

At the end of The Calling, it is mentioned that the dagger Duncan carries (which he swpied from the First Enchanter btw - not Irving but the previous one who was evil) protects him from the taint. So if he's alive and he was taken by the Architect, chances are that you CAN rescue him in Awakening.

I hope Duncan isn't dead if he is that is the worst part of any Bioware game I have ever played. I see no point in not finding his body or not showing his death. We got to see women & children chased down & murdered but not our leader whom we knew for 10 minutes? ok like a week in game time but point being if he really is dead & that is the end of it....That is just really weak writing on Bioware's part. Like here's your leader...oops he's dead but we'll never confirm it & your companion will whine about it for the next 80 hours...have fun! No more details ever! just bad writing if you ask me.

I think he must be alive. I'm angry Alistair didn't comment on it in RtO that was a wasted opportunity.

you never actually see Duncan die or recover his corpse so his death is not confirmed. Hopefully he returns and kills your and morrigan's demon child.
