i have successfully brought legion to tali's trial, then completed legion's ;yalty quest directly after that, went on suicide run and saved all normandy crew.
you have a 2-3 mission grace period from initiating the IFF mission, so there is plenty of time
just make sure you complete everyone's loyalty missions except tali before getting the reaper IFF
How to bring legion onto tali loyalty mission without kelly dying?

Out of interest, are there any interesting differences if you bring Legion to the Migrant Fleet? Or do people just ignore him like any other teammate?

you get an entirely new section of added dialog complete with extra morality points for charm/intimidation persuasion.

btw, if you are one of the super tali fans, i would not recommend doing this because it is probably the meanest thing you could do to tali in the game save letting her die

Do everything possible before the IFF except Tali's side-quest. I activated Legion first thing after the IFF quest, then did her quest with Legion in the party (yes you get more dialogue regarding him and some paragon/renegade choices because of it). After finishing her quest, Kelly said Legion wanted to speak with me. Did his side-quest, then the abduction happened.
Edit: Duh, entire crew was saved and lost no team members on the suicide mission.
Was on Hardcore too if that means anything.

If you save Tali's loyalty mission towards the end, would there still be enough time to romance her before you head to the Collector base?

No. You should have done her loyalty mission before tackling the IFF. The game lets you only take on Legion's loyalty mission afterwards.

This is not correct. I have done multiple missions after the IFF. The trick is just to go and get Legion's loyalty mission immediately after you acquire the Reaper IFF. This opens the galaxy map up again, and then you can keep doing missions without the crew being abducted. This way you can do Tali, then Legion, and then the crew abduction sequence will trigger.

Incorrect. I was able to do Jack's and Legion's PQs after the IFF mission.Carthson wrote...

I don't know how many times I have had to explain this to people. It's frustrating, because I am basing my advice on the fact that I have actually done these things in the game. The people who are giving incorrect advice seem to be basing it on other incorrect advice they themselves have gotten.

its easy. Get all your crew loyal except Tali(I normally wait to pick her up till they all are loyal) then do the Reaper IFF mission. As soon as you get done in the briefing room activate Legion and go and do Tali's mission. When you get back to the Normandy from that one Legion will want to talk to you for his mission. Fly straight to that and do it and your golden. After that crew gets abducted and its time to go kick some collector ass.

They don't ignore him and there is some interesting dialog if you bring him. I found it not that realistic as the Quarians are quick to back down. Something I don't see them doing no matter who Shepard is.

1) Shepard defeated Sovereign, which makes the Geth look like Tinker Toys.
2) Shepard saved Tali in the first place, which gets him major points.
3) Shepard is more bad**** then the entire Migrant Fleet combined.
Result: they back down
