Is it just me or is Shepard's hugely ponderous "flirting" with Kelly more like borderline sexual harassment from a boss to an employee?

That is exactly what I thought...but everyone loves commander shepard...

Yeah, i'm a little annoyed about that too. Although i usually tend to go paragon, i think there should be love interests who are just as turned on by you being a bad-ass, and doesn't find paragon-choices atractive. Like, for instance, an evil-minded killer Morinth-style or a psycopath like Jack (without the whole need for us to turn her to paragon-like ways before getting to be with her)

As it is now, Renegades are cool tough guys... with ZERO sex-life

You get "sex with no strings attached" from Jack if you go the Renegade route. And you get sex with Morinth by going the Renegade route*

*) and then you die

Judging from how things play out, it could be that Military regulations regarding sexual/romantic involvment within the same chain of command has been relaxed or done away with, in the ME universe.

Also, technically speaking, the Normandy SR2 is a civilian vessal, as Shepard can point out to Joker with the right dialogue options.  No regulations prohibiting such an entanglment .

Lastly, from what I'm picking up through conversations with Kelly, she's an enormously "free" individual.  Maybe not quite "loose," but very "open to exploring possiblities."

Haha, she still won't offer to come up to my room, or even feed my fish. I get the feeling that you have to be friendly and not formal from the very first convo with her otherwise you can "flag" the romance option to be disabled from an early stage.

Grr so i have to pick a paragon option...
Does it matter after i pick friendly if i keep picking renegade options?

Untrue. You can have a Renegade sex scene with jack before anyone else in the game.

It's not a case of military regulations, more like a manager harassing his secretary.

That's not what i meant, I meant a Love interest who solely wants Shepard cause she/he is attracted to the dark side within Shepard.
Jack only sleeps with Shepard early because she has a detatched way of looking at sex and follows her physical nature AND probably just gives him what she believes he wants in the first place. She isn't drawn to his evil side, she simply gives in to the physical pleasure.
Having Shepard sleep with Jack without romancing her is simply cheating your way into bed early in ME 2. But what I mean, is that I would like to see a Love Interest-character who is evil, who isn't all "make me happy and i will sleep with you". Someone who will only sleep with you exclusively if you go down the Renegade-path.

Spoiler Alert
There are three different types of relationships you can have with Yeoman Chambers: professional, friendly, and flirty.  The moments with her up in the cabin after the credits are meant to be a bit of an Easter egg, and only happen if you are being flirty with her and get to know her well.  You need to do the following:

1.    Talk with her. When she says she knew she could trust you, say that you would do more than catch her.
2.    After a mission, talk to her again.  She’ll ask you if she was being too flirty.  Tell her you liked it.  It’s dangerous to flirt with your boss, and if she ever feels you are offended by her over-friendliness, she’ll play it safe and switch to being professional and just keep doing her job.  It’s not paragon or renegade to flirt with her.  She’s just attracted to complements and openness, and is not attracted to rudeness and intense seriousness.
3.    Talk with her after any acquisition mission or main plot story moment.  Flirt with her and say nice things.  Don’t ever say “Be professional”, cause she will be.
4.    If she is attracted enough to you, you will get the option to invite her up to your cabin for a meal. You need to take this option. I believe this can happen after the Collector Ship mission or acquiring Samara, and I think maybe another spot or two? This happens if you are just having a friendly relationship with her as well. What actually happens that evening during that fade from black?  Well, that depends on what your Shepard is like and is up to your own imagination to fill in.  Did you talk all night?  Play chess?  Watch some vids?  Give each other massages?  More?  Just know that she’s a pretty open-minded gal.
5.    You’ll need to ask her if she is into aliens.  This option only comes up during her comments about Tali or Thane.  This is when she lets you know (indirectly) that she is bi-sexual.  If you acquire Tali or Thane after she is gone, she’ll still comment on them after the credits if they live through the end game.  (and yes, this is a little obscure.  Easter egg, remember?)
6.    Obviously, save her during the suicide mission.  This is done by going through the Omega 4 relay immediately after the crew is taken.  The queue to the goo is short, and Kelly is in the front of the line.  She doesn’t have time.
7.    Talk to her after the end game.  Ask her if she is OK.  This is important, because you only get one only option to do that.  You can’t ask her later.   She needs to get the ordeal off her chest right then and there before she can be back to her flirty self.
8.    Don’t have an active love interest.  You can never have one, have one but get them killed in the suicide mission, or dump your current love interest.
9.    Leave and return to the Normandy (or save and load).  You’ll get a private message from Kelly.  Read it.
10.    Go up to your cabin.  The terminal next to your private console will be selectable and say “Invite Kelly Up”.

Does doing this with Kelly count as cheating on your ME1 love interest?  Kelly’s a free spirit, and as such can be more of a bed buddy, hence why “romancing” her doesn’t turn down the picture frame on your desk, or get in the way of your romancing any of the main ME2 love interests.  Will this affect anything in ME3?  Well, we haven’t made the game yet, but the fact that you had Kelly up to your cabin is in your save game.

I really just want my fish fed....... but I can picture having her up for dinner, while pursuing a romance with some other character will have some repercussions down the line. So, in conclusion, my fish tank will remain filled with only water, sand, and plastic seaweed. Thanks for the post btw Dustums, it helped.

Is this a definite requirement?

It's the only thing I didn't do, & she hasn't sent me a message post-credits :(

I recruited Thane prior to the Collector Ship. Didn't ask her if she liked aliens, but did flirt & had dinner. Flirted again after the Collector Ship, and then flirted again after recruiting Samara.

After recruiting Tali, there was (again) an option to say "You like aliens?!" but no clear-cut flirt options like after Thane, Samara & other team members. I didn't ask Kelly if she liked aliens though, as I thought it would put her off or be rude :(

I flirted with her at every given opportunity, right from the start with the "embrace" option; told her Thane wasn't my FemShep's type & invited her to dinner, & then accepted her offer to feed my fish; asked for a hug after the Collector Ship; told her after recruiting Samara that I didn't recruit Samara for her looks as I had Kelly for that; etc.

I don't remember there being any flirt dialogue options though when talking to Kelly after recruiting Tali or Legion, which confused me as I hadn't shot her down earlier & hadn't been romancing anyone else.

There's an option after recruiting Tali were she tells you she doesn't have an issue with gender or species, don't know if thats crucial mind. There was also one after "Archangel" I believe, something about any touching to be done?

Perfect consolation prize for my future A hole shepard...will she still be my prize if i pick renegade option every time i talk to her?

obviously if you are a dick to her she isn't going to like you, cmon.

OH! ^^ that's gotta smart! ... well then I wonder about Ashley and that
"Acting unfaithfully is expected to have negative consequences for the
relationship in Mass Effect 3"-thing? ... does Kelly count as a true
romance?

first, yes it will count,  if you are sleeping with her that counts as infidelity. second, why on earth would anyone choose ashley as their li in me1? xP
