What do you prefer, having the buffing skill or rather a greater selection of active skills and why?

Not just in regard to your own char but companions also.

Miranda's Cerberus Officer squad passives are awesome. It made me have no hesitation appointing her the fire team leader during the Suicide missions. She's really perfect for it.

This makes Miranda pretty much one of the best teammates for a non-Biotic Shepard. Her Biotics and passives (plus great in-battle attitude!) make her a keeper to me. If I was playing a Biotic I would probably go for a different companion.

If your question was instead "should I max out my skills or spread them out?", I would say max out the class passive and the 2-3 you use the most.   Getting the AoE/Single target level 4 version of powers is great.  On my engineer I completely skipped Cyro and didn't miss it.

Of course, on your second go-round, the xp bonus will allow you to level faster and you'll be able to max out another power or two.  A level 30 character is almost totally maxed out, I believe.

Interesting, i'm tending towards maxing out the active skills and ignoring buff skills. I like having a variety of powerfull attacks.
