Maybe I'm in the minority but i am starting to grow tired of these templatised romances which invariably turn into a game of bedding a squad member. They are so predictable and feel like they are just being used now as a cheap gimmick. The girls are being made to look like dolly birds or they act super slaggy.

IMO, The most interesting romance/affair recently produced was in DAO involving the PC and Morrigan. That seemed more interesting and meaningful that the sort of quicko ritualised mating involved in the other romances in ME1, ME2.

Edit: Double post, but I'm going to take this opportunity to say that the OP was practically begging for someone to make that pass.

i think they've taken a big step away from what you're talking about in ME2. but i also am willing to admit that i don't know what you mean by "dolly birds" or "super slaggy."

IMO, I don't understand why all the romance sub-plot would lead to a bed scene. I understand this is what most of us gamers want. But is that reality? Do all the characters in the game just want sex that much? Can't they have a normal, but more conservative mindsets? Maybe BW would set at least 1 character up that he/she can't take casual sex... That would definitely frustrate a lot of whiners. :P

I think "dolly birds" means girls that put on so much makeup they look closer to a barbie doll than actual person.

And "super slaggy?" Maybe super ****ty but I don't speak English or Irish or Welsh or Scottish or Australian or whatever, I speak American.

Well they are trying to be sexy with these romances; perhaps titilating was the wrong word. I personally just find them dull and boring, and they are all scripted like clone romances.

I found they made Kelly Chamber quite "slaggy" as in "easy" for the simple reason she is your PA. Its quite stereotypical.

No offense intended to Kelly :-)

Hopefully in ME3 you can have a romance but it dosent end with a scene like ME1 or 2 maybe if your with Ash/kaiden you get married, Tali is on the homeworld with shep and (if you resolved conflict peaacefully geth) building her house, Jack could just be with shep talking about her problems and trying to intergrate into society, etc.

There's no such thing as 'American' you moron, unless you guys just recently invented a new language - gotta love the stereotypical 'patriotic yank', gives the rest of the good ol' USA folk a bad name IMO. And yes, slag pretty much means the same thing as ****, which is an Americanism so not everyone in the world uses it since your population accounts for about 4% of the world populus only.

Anyway yes I do feel the romances have become a little gimmicky, mostly because there's attention drawn to them now as being a 'function' of the games. Originally, when they were fairly new, it felt spontaneous but nowadays it's almost detached due to expectation.

I hated Morrigan. Dumb broad wanted me to kill her mother. Flemeth saved my life, what did Morrigan do for me besides start PMSing every time I did something heroic?

I dont care if they have sex or not. Love isnt just about ****ing each other. I would be just as happy if they expressed their love in a non sexual manner.

Take note of how the "sex"-scenes all take place before the truly "impossible" part of the mission begins. If you think there's a chance this will be your last moment alone with the one that you love, are you seriously gonna be okay with just sitting down and having tea and cake with them? I wouldn't. I'd want to express my love as fully and completely as possible. That said, Miranda's scene left a lot to be desired in terms of emotions, but I felt Jack's and Tali's were spot-on... for ME2 anyways. I hugely favor the ME1 love scenes over ME2's. Much more emotion and feeling could be put into them instead of a "yes" or "no" question.

Haha, no offence but no thanks! :o

Not that I have an issue with America but if any girl honestly 'wants to spread it' then the only thing she's going to be spreading is STDs!

Another song comes to mind:

I'm also thinking I dont want a game verging into adult entertainment territory, unless there is a good story-based reason for it. It seems Bioware are doing it because it provides some cheap thrills to the younger crowd.

Sex/romance is handled in a really juvenile way in ME2.

As I mentioned on another thread which was talking about some of the "sleaziness" in ME2, i think it represnets the same pattern in ME2 as more of a console shooter type game such as GTA 3 or 4.

Is it a coincidence this game is both much more of s shooter and more sleazy than any other Bioware game? I dont think so.

I liked the Tali romance I must admit but I wasn't keen on the Miranda one it just felt like a cheap fling.

Jack I was on the fence about...on the one hand it felt like the romance didn't make sense for it to happen within the story but on the other it was sweet in some ways.

You people realize that American IS a dialect and someone from America won't always understand slang from another region, even if they speak the same language.
