 GETH SHIELD BOOST!

Now that that is out of the way, what does everyone pick for their bonus power on their character? For me, it was the Geth Shield Boost, that power has saved my ass COUNTLESS times.

Geth Shield Boost.

Reave and Warp ammo are great too.

Played a Sentinel, so I had neither time in combat for another attack power, nor need for protective power, nor points to spend on bonus power beside starting 1. So I went with ammo power, and decided that best for points spent/give back was "Armour-piercing ammo". +30% more damage to health and armour at first rank.

Depends on your class.

IMO, Engineer doesn't want to interrupt the chain of drone spam / weapon fire, and the 12 second cooldown on shields = 4 drone cooldowns, which is likely to provide significantly better protection. I find ammo powers, and particularly Armor Piercing ammo, more useful for classes which are going to be spamming abilities that have defensive applications already (Engineer, Infiltrator), as you minimize your opportunity cost in lost cooldowns by having an ammo power. Sentinel also has a superior version already, and the cooldown is painful enough on that.

Geth shield would be a solid choice for a Soldier, though, and possibly Adept and Vanguard.

The Inferno Grenade is very underrated. Excellent AoE, especially against people in cover. Fast cooldown too.

Warp ammo or AP ammo for Soldiers ends up being the best, IMO. We already have a defensive utility with hardened adrenaline rush.

Sentinel doesn't need any more armor. I went with Reave so I could ignore the throw and warp skills to put points elsewhere.

I chose barrier for adept and regretted it... the recharge time is just too long.

Reave because it is overpowered...

Reave also does a decent job on shields - not for bosses, but for regular joe shields Heavy Reave can often punch through into health in one cast. Or, at least, with Raider/Dragon Armor/Power Armor.

I found Warp Ammo invaluable for my Soldier on Insanity.

For a sentinel, probably an ammo power, unless you take someone with squad ammo. I found I was using all my power cooldowns on warp/overload anyway, and sentinel weapon damage could certainly use the passive boost.

I have a paragon soldier with max bonuses from importing. I haven't tried out the other powers yet, but:

I Really Like Slam.

If I could wish for anything it would be a push back (I'd call it a shockwave but that means something else in ME2) to throw back melee foes like Husks rushing me from all sides.

So what's the difference between all the shield powers?

Which is exactly why I use Energy Drain instead.  It has half the cooldown that Barrier/Fortification/Geth Shield have, plus it damages enemy shields and bots.  Its ability to take down shields complements warp very nicely.

Good question. I was wondering the same thing. Fortification, Barrier, and Geth Shield Boost all do pretty much the same thing: add to shields. According to the descriptions. But does it add to the shields, or does it change the type to, say, armor for fortification? And does it overlay the armor over the shields, so that armor is depleted first, then shields? Or that certain weapons/powers used by the enemies are more effective against, say, Barrier? Just like our weapons/powers work against their defenses?

Back on topic, I used Armor Piercing Ammo on my sentinel, and using Warp Ammo for my Adept, but was thinking about switching to barrier/ fortification.

Ehm... as i heard around, there is no real difference between Geth Shield/Barrier/Fortitude.

Only that Geth Shield can get the +10% Weapon Damage.

All of this Powers are refilling and adding points to your shields.

I know that sounds strange, but it seems that for Player Characters and maybe even for all Companions there is no Health+Armor+Barrier/Shield

When you read the Description of ortitude you see what i mean...

PLZ TELL ME I AM WRONG! PLEAZE!^^

The description of Fortitude says it adds an amount of armor equivalent to a percentage of your shields, it never says it adds to your shields.

Also, I'm pretty sure your defenses are layered in the same way as enemies: Barrier > Shield > Armor > Health.
