You know, MTV at one time used to 'push the envelope" with programs, news, videos, etc. But when it became corporate, it became about making money by appealing to the largets demographic with the most expendable cash flow. Bioware seems to be doing the same in being bought by EA, they are now playing it 'safe' to make more money and by broadening their appeal. In the end, principles and philosophy rarely stand against corporate interests to make money

Cant blame the Devs really, they are only human after all.

No, they're not. They're gods.  Gods who create  worlds and universes.    They're artists.      And what did they do?     Why, They  decided to  bow down and prostrate themselves before their lessers, that's what, compromising their own artistic visions  in order to appease society's lowest common denominator:  The morality police.

The fact that they're turning around now and DENYING this  truth, and  instead,  pretending that it was their artistic vision all along to make the sex scenes  tamer.... is nausiating me immensely.

i realize some of your post was tongue in cheek but my point was you cant blame them for responding to the endless criticisms of their work.

Furthermore, you do not have any inside information on why Bioware made the design choices they did, just your own personal assumptions.

I don't care about the nudity, or lack of, for that matter. I agree with the OP when it comes to Mr. Woos response. Sure he must deal with alot of complaining, but his tone was not a professional one. It is his job to deal with people, and apparently he is not always capable of doing so in a polite and professional way, all he did was fan the flames, not put them out.

Oh, and a "dictatorship" please, if they didn't listen to the fans ME2 would have the same crappy shooting as the first.

Wow you really have extremely thin skin if you consider Stanley Woo's response as "insulting". And his job is to moderate this forum, he is not customer support. If you are so inclined to listen to "professional" behavior, pick up the phone and call Bioware's support. They will have nice friendly people who will respond to you with a lot of courtesy.

That's how Woo has always been. Condescending, I mean. The guy has never even played Mass Effect (by his own admission). It's best to just ignore his posts about the subject, he doesn't have any insight into the game itself. He is quality assurance, not a dev.

Insult, did I ever use that word. No. You are right, though, it is his job to moderate, and because he can't do that professionally, we have more threads of this nature than there should be. He should have just used a neutral tone.

The devs actually said ME2's combat system was closer to what they first wanted to do. But they did made some changes we adressed, not because they HAD to, but because they WANTED to.

I'm sorry, but I can't seem to fully comprehend this series of words. I mean, what I'm hearing when I read it is "nothing Stanley says about Mass Effect has ever mattered or will ever matter," but I don't think that's what you typed.

I totally agree, and the way you both respond to topics, maybe you should be moderators.  I call a vote (or, maybe that is not how it is done).  Anyway.

Pixel nudity or not. Its all about the right to such freedom, give the conservative pressure cookers something they will suffer a bit from, its good for them, poor tightminded hush-noes. I gotta admit, BW did this for either for a wider customer base or *sigh* cowardiance, or both. Either way, its sad!

Take it however you'd like :P He said it himself, he has never played Mass Effect. So I'm not sure why everyone is worried what he has to say about it. His job is basically to proofread.

He can and has moderated the forums just fine. Just because you dont like him speaking his mind doesnt mean he fails at his job. We are all supposed to be adults here, if you cant deal with any kind of criticism in return perhaps forums are not you. I dont think it is wise to try and ascribe any kind of emotional tone to his posts unless it has been clearly announced as such, since we all know how easy it is to misinterpret meaning and tone in forums.

I am using "you" in general terms, not directed at anyone in particular.

Stanley Woo's responses were neither harsh nor unprofessional. He was straight to the point and did not attack anyone in particular. Yet you feel offended by his opinion, and pull the "I'm the customer!" card to try to shut down his views.

You and the OP are the reason many game companies seldom bother to interact with the forum population. Their posts get dissected and every word they say gets misinterpreted in all possible ways.

You know, I wish 3 year olds that give answers like this would just go play in traffic somewhere. Its a troll answer designed to incite a negative responce and turn topic into flame war.

If there is one negative I have with ALL bioware forums its that they dont get rid of the trolls (and in TOR case) punish those that get fed up and respond to the trolls. Thats just ****** poor moderation In my books.

Back to topic, you know the more I read that responce by Stanley Woo the more insulted I get by it. Talk about arrogence and talking down to your subscribers.

Im sorry mister Woo but I am a mature male who doesnt look at porn on dvd, tv, or the internet and even I want more then your self cencored G rated insults you call love scenes. By your comments its pretty obvious you also dont understand the topic and talking out your you know what. Most folks that suggest nudity also say its not needed, what we want is engaging and interesting and immersive love scenes like we got in ME1.

In case you forgot, ME1 had no realy nudity in its love scenes but we all fine with that because it was a ADULT scene that fit the situation! DA:O and ME2 were most definately dumbed down because of FOX and the moral soccer moms (and appearently Winky the wonder dog, bad Winky bad) attacking Bioware after ME1 because your change in stance and product is obvious! So why lie to us and insult us? YOUR CUSTOMERS!

Can't mass market ME2 to xbox wielding children if there's a side boob controversy. Simple.

You might be on to something here that many (myself included) may wish otherwise.

I hate to admit it (mostly cause BW Edmonton was and is my favorite developer) but there has been a big time change in attitude recently at Bioware. Watering down products, lieing to customer base in interveiws, now flat out attacking part of that customer base on the forums for simply making a request they feel missing in games.

Somethings changed and not for better I gotta say.

The game was still rated M and would have been even with partial nudity like ME1. Plus, controversy = sales.

The honest truth here is that no one in this thread knows why *exactly* BioWare has decided to "go back" to keeping clothes on in their intimate/love/sex scenes. The people who know are working for Bioware and judging from Mr. Woo's answer it is obvious that they are getting pretty tired of hearing that they are sell outs, chickens, self-censorers and what else you may call them.

Let me be blunt: This is all speculation! You don't know. I don't know. Biowares designers know why and they haven't told us yet. I am betting however that calling them sell outs, cowards or anything similar will however not make them more inclined to tell us why this particular (or any other) choice was made.

Considering that their Games are top-notch and everything else in both DA:O and ME2 is tight and fits the game like a glove, I can only assume that they have a valid reason for making the choice that they have in regards to the sex scenes.

Sometimes your imagination is the best tool. The game sets the scene, you can figure out the rest for yourself if you want to go there. Your imagination will be a lot better then computer pixels!

Whats the big deal?

The absurdity of this whole "issue" is laughable. Who the f**k cares? It's artistic license. Don't play it if all you wanted was a pixelated side boob.

NERDS!

Lots of thought and insight into the OP's argument went into this man's post.

After reading this thread, I completely agree with the OP.

It seems that violence today is glorified, and sex is taboo.  We can see people melting alive in the collector ship, blow the limbs off of mechs, set fire to people and aliens.

But sex?  Nooooooo, that's going too far.  Kinda like the Janet Jackson Super Bowl thing.  Cmon.

Everyone in here just saying "U GUYZ R NARDS GHO WETCH PRON" are completely missing the argument.  I feel like I've been a fan of a political activist only to find out that they cow towed to some senator for extra money.  THAT'S what this is about.  THAT'S what it feels like.
