Bioware please patch the insanity difficulty

Also, the autosaving is much better than in ME1. I very rarely find myself being set back more than a couple of fights.

I suggest playing a Sentinal or Adept in insanity. The mixed biotic power/weapons for Sentinal are really nice and you don't have to worry so much about ammo conservation. Adepts well, ya they freakin rule.
If you are a soldier, you have to think more about your shots I believe, I am doing Hardcore right now with a Vangard and um...so ya its fairly painful because there really isnt much I can do (atleast early on).
Adept? Are you insane? Biotics are so nerfed in this game it's rediculous. Except againt the collectors, who usually don`t have armor, and husks, where singularity is a zombie blender, the only useful normal biotic ability is warp.
If ammo is a concern on Insanity for the soldier, that solidifies my choice between Sentinel and Soldier for my Insanity Playthough.

Im not sure what weapon people are using for their Soldiers but I never had a problem with the LMG. Everything was dead before I could come close to running out. After combat there would be more heatsinks than I could use.

Adept was great for insanity! It wasn't nerfed at all. Singularity temporarily stops ALL enemies, even those with Barrier, Armor and Shields. Plus I noticed midway through the game it slowly strips down protections too. Very quickly you can get your biotic recharge time to the point where you can use Singularity repeatedly to hold an enemy/multiple enemies in place while your teammates carve them up. Shooting the floor in front of you with Singularity can save you over and over from rushing husks.
I found it best to Warp the little guys Armor and Barrier, then pull them and let my team carve them up. When someone got to close, Singularity held them in place, and it slowly takes down their protections. Once their protections are gone, Singularity scoops them up and its all over. Put all your initial points into Singularity, Pull and class Bonuses, use Warp Ammo for your bonus power and you'll never look back. Eventually I put Throw up to level 3 too, just to have for the Collector stages to toss enemies off ledges when I got their protections down. I never even used Shockwave...only put points into it when I had 2 spare ones left at the end of the game.

I've also spent a few hours as a low level soldier on insanity, and the difference between the two experiences was pretty glaring. It was fairly, well, I wouldn't necessarily say it was easy as the level 3-10 soldier, but it was defnitiely a great deal easier than the high level sentinel. Certain parts of the game have given me absolute fits on the sentinel. In fact, I just made it to the derelict collector vessel, and I think that may be the end of the line for this NG+ attempt, because I don't believe it's going to be possible for me to finish the fight on the platforms. There's just no margin for error. If I'm knocked out of cover even once, whether by Harbinger or the Scion, I'm dead. I've tried everything I can think of, and the best I've been able to do is make it to the 2nd wave (taking the scion down).
In any case, I don't think my Insanity achievement is going to come from an NG+ playthrough...

As I mentioned on the other version of this thread in the non-spoiler forum, I wonder how many folks are starting with a new or carryover ME1 character, and how many are doing NG+. Because I've found much of the game to be almost brutally difficult as a level 30 sentinel, even things that I didn't expect to give me any trouble at all, like finding archangel or taking Jack from Purgatory. And then there was Horizon...

Staying at the lowest possible level is the best advice for Insanity, enemies scale ridiculously the higher you go.

Yeah. And there's the issue of my own upgrades, or lack thereof.Dave of Canada wrote...

I'd really like to make it through this part, but Ithink we're not far off from that "how many times do you bang your head against the wall before you admit the wall's won?" point.

Unity makes the game stupidly easy no matter what. Don't even need it as team get up after fight if they "die".
I died like twice on Insanity.
Team picks are important. Take Garrus and Miranda and learn to play.
REALLY HATE THREADS LIKE THIS. So many dumbed down games nowadays.

The first time I played, I scaled back to Hardcore after banging my head against the wall 10 times on Freedom's Progress, right at the beginning. My second time though (not NG+), it is still hard as all heck, but I am managing to get through without it getting too frustrating. Love a challenge.

Quick question though; I'm a Sentinel and I keep Miranda with me (Warp and Overload) and usually Mordin (Incinerate), and I'm about to head to the infamous Collector Ship part. Should I swap Mordin out for a bullet sponge like Grunt or anybody else? Thanks for any advice.

I actually did Freedom's Progress on the low-level soldier first, and breezed through it. So I thought "what the hell, I'll give NG+ a try on my sentinel, this isn't as bad as I thought" And proceeded to die. Quickly.
I had to develop an entirely different approach before I was able to get anywhere. I played my first run-through on normal just to get a sense of the game and how the new systems worked, and I'm not at all ashamed to admit I died a few times; I was used to ME1 combat and even on the easy settings Shepard in ME2 is pretty weak once he's under fire. But playing NG+ on insanity, and realizing I could die at any time to one damned LOKI if I didn't pay strict attention to my cover and enemy positions, well, that was a real eye-opener. And then later on when I realized that enemies (like Harbinger...) would actually come after me, that it's not as safe as I thought to sit in cover and toss warps every few seonds. Suffice to say it's made ME2 almost a new game.
There've been two points in this NG+ run where I've thought about giving up: the area immediately after the mechanic on Horizon (I could not for the life of me find a safe place to fight...), and now on the platforms. Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to get past this part. Not on insanity. I think it's probably time to go back to the soldier, or maybe start my renegade femshep infiltrator playthrough, and finish the achievement off that way.
It's been fun in a masochistic way, though.

Definitely switch Mordin out for Grunt. I needed the bullet sponge. And make sure he has his Krogan Vitality upgrades. Also, that is one of the few scenes where I found it better to micromanage their powers, so turn off Squad AI and hit fortification every time you can with him. Just ignore the scions and never leave cover to shoot or use their powers until AFTER their shockwave passes you, and you should make it through.

Yeah, my problems are less with the enemies (though Scions and Praetorians are cheap) and more with the squadmate AI. They tend to get shredded and NOT get into the cover I tell them to get into.

I'm doing it (or rather not doing it) with Grunt and Thane. I think I may go back and drop Grunt for Miranda, so I have 3 warps.
Not sure how much of a difference it will make, but it's all I can think of.

I hated the platforms too. That part stunk. Just do your best to ignore the Scions by never leaving cover when they are shockwaving you. Also, only deal with Harbinger when you gets right in front of you. Then, move Shep back and forth in cover while he is firing...it messes up his aim with that black bubble that knocks you. Just a little movement behind a single block is enough to throw him off, and he won't hit you with his bubble. With a bit of practice you can stay alive. Be patient and warp/shoot only when he takes a break, he has a rythym he follows, and evenutally you'll kill him.
You'll have a few seconds after he dies to take out maybe ONE other collector before he possesses another, just be quick when he's not around and be extremely patient when he is. You'll make it through eventually.
Also be very very aggressive at the beginning platform. Use your and Miranda's Warp and then Throw/Grunt's Concussive Shot to knock the first 2 minions off the platform.

lol what? I beat ME2 first playthrough on Insanity with about 10-12 deaths, no more than that. Considering this is the highest diffuclty in the game, I find it both insulting that it was that easy and that you're implying Soldiers are a horrible class.

I haven't played insanity yet, but hardcore seems pretty easy, I think I only needed two tries to kill the colossus, without Kal 'Reegar helping out. I remember watching my brother play Metal Gear Solid on extreme difficulty, now that seemed hard.
