I'm going for the Insanity Achieve with Infiltrator+Geth Shield. I have Miranda and Grunt and I'm getting totally frustrated with the first phase of the last battle on Horizon.
The Scion aren't worrying me too much, but those husk waves are just tearing us apart. I'm tring to stay mobile and tear down their armor but there are so many. And when the squad goes down my Infiltrator is screwed. I know that I'm gonna need those Medigels and my heavy weapon for the next phases so I'm trying not to use those.

Anyone have any ideas on a different squad setup or strategy?

I was able to do this with a Sentinel without dying once. There is a raised platform on (I think) the left side when you first enter that area. It has a ramp on each side and the area itself has a barrier to duck behind and enough room to run around on. It filters all the Husks towards the two ramps and allows you plenty of time to pick them off before they reach you; if they do you can easily run around. Thermal clips will keep respawning close nearby so when you're down to the final enemy of a wave what I do is go down and pickup clips, get back to that area, finish him off, and continue. Rinse and repeat.

Use your heavy weapon. Seriously.

The flying collector later on can be soloed with just an SMG and rank 1 Incinerate.

Yeah, the Praetorian isn't difficult even with low level weapons. Just play "circle the cargo boxes" with it. As long as you're careful to avoid being in a direct line of sight with the Praetorian it won't hit you and you can nail its arms or extensions. Your squadmates will keep hitting it from cover as it seems to mostly focus on you and you alone.

In insanity with an engineer I went to the left, there are some stairs and you can cover behind, some husks spawn there but with jack + Grunt squad fire ammo they are very easy; incinerate their armor and shockwave concussive shot. The most important part of this spot, it's that until the praetorian you can bunker there against all the waves very efficiently. After bunkering here, i've found Horizon final battle very very easy. Once the praetorian kicks in just pillar-LOS. With an infiltrator the praetorian seems pretty easy

Beat this just yesterday... very frustrating. How I did it:

1) Get rid of Scions asap. In fact, you should be able to take out at least one of them before the fight even starts since they are already out in the open before you enter. 4-5 well-placed sniper shots should do the trick.

2) Husks. Bastards nearly had the best of me, but I found their weakness... jumping over cover. At the far side of that stage are two L-shaped barriers against the wall. Use cloak to get into position behind either one and slowly start taking the Husks out one by one. When they finally get around the open section, jump over the "inner" cover and again over the other one. The Husks are slow to react and will run around both barriers rather than jump over to follow you, giving you more than enough time to take their armor down. Rinse, repeat, recycle.

Alright. I guess it wont hurt to go ahead and use my heavy weapons because chargers are the worst nightmare for an Infiltrator. So it would make since to use it there. I'll go try some more and see how those L-shaped covers do.

I won't rule out the stair ramp again, but I believe the second wave actually crawls right onto there and if they're that close to me its not a good situation.

Thanks for the advice. Im motivated to go back in now. heh.

*Update* You guys rock. I used all your advice and started at the ramps for wave one. Ignored the scions and sniped on the husks who didnt activate immediately. Squad died but I left them dead. I ran from the ramps sniping when I could then made my way to the L-shaped barriers (which worked quite well).I came close to death a few times but muddled through. Once the husks were dead I rezzed my squad and took the scions down with ease. Good advice folks.

Now its time for phase two, but im just glad to have gotten to it lol.

This fight frustrated me for a while at first as well, but it's simply a matter of shooting the crap out of the scions and then shooting them some more. My suggestion for the husks is as InfiniteCuts said, jumping over cover. Sprint kiting is fairly helpful too and if you can get them all in a group behind you, it gets even easier to avoid them...if they get too close you always have your cloak available to get to the other side of em or get more room.

One of the biggest things you can do though is as soon as you see the first scion, start pelting it with sniper shots and put your teammates on it as a focus target. Grunt can take a beating and a single scion can have issues in bringing him down if you amped up his regen ability. Might want to make sure Grunt is using the vindicator at this time too though since if he actually gets into close range he will die. Should be able to kill one scion before the husks ever even get to you, then from there it becomes simpler. Make sure if you have the scions' attention you kite around the widest path you possibly can, and if you have to get uncomfortably close to them or get cornered, cloak through the husks and go back the other way.

*Edit* If you're already on the mission it's too late to do this, but if you don't have them on alread, sprint speed legs. DO EEET! Makes avoiding husks a cakewalk.

Shoot. The. Legs.

Really, it's all over the forum whenever there's a mention of husks. Unless you're a soldier with slow-mo, it's much easier to shot their legs first instead of trying to aim at their heads while running in circles.

Husks don't seem to take extra damage from headshots anyway.

The easiest way to beat them is to get rid of their armor and then insta-KO them with Throw, Pull, Concussive Shot, Slam, or Shockwave.  Once they get knocked down they don't get back up.  The second easiest way to beat them is to shoot their legs while kiting them around.  As long as you don't let them trap you in a corner, they really aren't that bad.

I had no trouble with this mission as an Infiltrator.  If they got close to me I simply cloaked and ran away.  You can use terrain effectively there (vaulting back and forth over the barriers is good but can get you killed if Scions are still up).  The Infiltrator's solution to any trouble situation is "cloak and run".

Legs huh? Nice. Didn't think of that. I just finished the mission and yes, once I got through that first stage the rest was gravy compared. I think I had to fight phase 2, 2-3 times and the boss I fought twice.
I will definitely be taking out the legs when I go after Legion.
I've read that post-Horizon, insanity gets way easier. If Mass2 insanity is anything like Mass1 then I believe this is true.

PS There is nothing better than getting a bunch of husks with their armor down and watching as Grunt charges through them one by one and blowing them to gooey chunks. Nice having a Krogan charging your enemy instead of you! That guy is starting to grow on me lol.

I found the hardest part of Insanity to be Tali's recruitment mission (with an honorable mention to the last boss on Grunt's recruitment mission). I was playing as an adept, though. Haven't quite gotten to Tali's mission on my Infiltrator yet.

As with the earlier post, as soon as you enter, follow the wall tot he left, is a platform that provides good cover for you and your henchmen.

This place was the only way I was able to get by the first couple of waves. Everywhere else my buddies would just die to scion AoE.

One problem with wasting your ammo on Husks, is the fact you'll be starving for ammo on the tougher enemies. Finding an elevated place for cover is really nice so it takes much longer for a Husk to reach you. I've also found Incinerate very useful for taking down Husk waves, also aiming for their legs with my pistol. If any do get close to me its viable to just throw some well placed melee attacks, they're slow so its not hard to finish them off this way (also saving ammo).

Once the Husks are taken care of, I will start picking off Collectors, aim for their heads and they will drop fairly fast. The giant enemies with their Shockwave attack CANNOT reach you from an elivated position, so staying out of line of sight will negate any chance of their attacks. Wait between attacks and use the usefulness of curving Incinerate to finish them off.

Final phase is the flying octopus thing, using the Collectors heavy weapon is a good choice for this. I've found using the area in the middle for cover really nice (the tall wall where you hack the computer to start this event), it can't fly over and is very slow, so as long as you can keep running in circles with this wall between then you can safely avoid his damage. Cloak to gain a bonus, and put as much damage as you can to its barrier. Once the barrier is down use your Widow to chip away at its armor, also use cloak whenever its up for the bonus damage (its a lot of damage to armor) or just use your curving Incinerate to safely avoid any damage.

Oh, last tip, always try to keep a safe distance when you see its about to recharge its barrier, it can kill you if you end up too close (and it ignores line of sight).

I found the hardest part of Insanity to be Tali's recruitment mission (with an honorable mention to the last boss on Grunt's recruitment mission). I was playing as an adept, though. Haven't quite gotten to Tali's mission on my Infiltrator yet.

I actually just made a post about my experience with that, it was fun for me.

"I just finished Tali's recruit mission on Insanity, the final room with the giant Geth tank was a huge challange to overcome, but after a few tries I finally got it and learned some tips to beating it more efficiently. Clear the main portion of Geth surrounding the starting point while avoiding the tanks attacks, once clear move to the left side and continue to fight off Geth trying to cross the bridge, move up to the other side of the bridge then cross across the middle while avoiding the tank, move up the bridge ramp till you find ammo + medi-gel waiting for you. At this point you are safe from the tanks damage while you cut down some of the Geth troops moving in on you, once clear you have a clear view to start chipping away at the tank, once the tank is dead the rest of the Geth despawn.

Another tip I've noticed as an Infiltrator, whenever faced against an enemy with a flamethrower, aim for the gas packs mounted on their back, if you are successful you'll see a stream of fire on the enemies back, a few seconds later he will explode and do significant damage to anything around him."

On my insanity playthrough I managed to do this after about 12 reloads or more... it was almost luck. But this is what I did.

1) Don't bother with the husks, your squadmates will take care of them (I had Garrus + Grunt).

2) Don't bother with cover, just get squad mates to follow you running around shooting at husks who always seem to chase after you.

3) Run around and snipe the scions with sniper zoom (advantage of being infiltrator) - unrealistic sure, but... after 12 reloads it worked.

I used to have all sorts of problems with this portion of the mission, but I found a very effective method. My biggest problem was that I couldn't take on both at the same time. If I tried to kill the Scions first, the Husks would smack me to death, and if i concentrated on the Husks, the Scions would kill me. It was all sorts of annoying.

The secret is to remove the Scions from the equation. Once the door opens, don't head down the steps in front of you. Instead, pull out your Sniper Rifle and hold Left Trigger to scope. If you look to the sides of the wall that has the computer you need to hack, you'll find that you can actually see a part of both of the Scions (the back of one, the arm-cannon of the other). With the Sniper Rifle and Adrenaline Rush, you can kill one of the Scions, and get the other close enough to death that you can run up with your Assault Rifle and finish it off before it can get off one of it's Shockwaves. From there, you just have to deal with the Husks, and those are a cakewalk now that you can concentrate on them.

Bear with me while I upload parts 2 and 3 (should take a few hours. You may need to wait for the HD versions to finish processing):

Part 1: www.youtube.com/watch
Part 2: www.youtube.com/watch
Part 3: www.youtube.com/watch

1) You can do this alot faster if you don't make so many mistakes and hit up the respawning ammo points. If you use Miranda you should really take Jack (or Jacob). No pull/warp detonation really hurts your clear time.

2) This should show you the safe places to waypoint your squadmates.

3) Husk legshots as mentioned before = 1 hit kills. Go for the legs!

4) Praetorian is easy. The only rule for the Praetorian fight is that you don't waypoint your squadmates to your location. When the Praetorian gets too close, activate Cloak and it will immediately start floating over towards one of your squadmates. Use cloak to put some distance between you. The only time you'll die is if its right on top of you.
