I think it be cool to have a dwarf caster as a recruit.   Yeah some may have not helped her reach the Circle of Magi but then she won't be available for those who didn't... which would just increase the gameplay for DragonAge as a whole.  Maybe the a Werewolf recruit...

Does anyone know if the gold is being transfered?   I wouldn't think so since trap glitch is still there.

Dwarves are immune to lyrium...and cannot cast a spell to save themselves.    Thats why she went to study theory of magic, and not to apprentice as a mage.

Well, Tevinter Imperium seems to be the place to go for cures to everything. Wynne goes there to regain her mortality, Shale goes there to become human again, and Fiona is helped by tevinter mages to be free of the taint. Who knows.. they may have a solution for Dagna even.

She'll have to be changed to an elf or human for that to work. :P

Well, maybe not all that, but seeing Dagna as a magic merchant or just accompanying you as a scholar would make my day

Yes, but here we would note that benevolent spirts do not attempt to draw others into the Fade or compel them from within the Fade. That is an action that is characteristic of "Demons" alone. Wynne is not an abomination precisely because she still retains her humanity. But anything that would "force" a dwarf into the Fade would be malevolent by nature. The end result, at best, would be something like Flemeth.

You have to bear in mind that inability and nonconsent aren't the same thing, though. Such a thing could possibly even be negotiated by a mage with a spirit they have reason to believe is trustworthy. Probably not at the Circle, though; I'm sure it would drive the templars absolutely nuts, so the lead gets drier at that point.

What do you think about the possibility of her studying how non-mages are able to use certain simplified magical abilities, however?  I'm curious about how that's possible, myself. Alistair's already pointed out that it's not snorting lyrium that does it.

More like Shale gets a magical hand replacement.

Had this thought about halfway though the first page of this thread...

I happened to help Dagna reach the circle and one of the epilogue notes that came across specifically mentioned Dagna the mage. My wife and I both looked at one another and smiled when we read that, so who knows what's up with that.

I supportingly repost my opinion on Dagna formerly adressed in my 2 months old "Morrigan & Dagna" Thread:

As I've helped her getting into the Circle of Magi (I hope everyone helped her!), I find myself very curious about how that could turn out. She is very excited about the opportunity to study magic, even though dwarfs aren't capable of casting any spell at all. Despite her lacking abilities she still is very enthusiastic. First Enchanter Irving is surprisingly curious and excited himself! Since she can't practice magic, she has to stick to pure theory. This means she will probably become a scholar and an intelectual among the magicians (in a dwarfen way, whatever that means). She will probably learn more about legends, magical artifacts, theories about magic and history than any other member of the Circle of Magi. More theory means deeper digging, which means deeper holes and therefore suprising discoveries! And this is what eventually makes her predestined to become a central figure in the Circle of Magi.

I hope Dagna will get a larger role and become an integral character in Dragon Age's future, because she is different. Her background is different. Whenever you plan something to happen in the Circle of Magi, please include her. She could provide theoretical background knowledge about tasks related to the Circle of Magi or become a quest-giver herself! Dagna could provide valuable information she comes across, regarging Flemeth's and Morrigans intentions! DLC, Expansion, Dragon Age 2 … no matter what, in either case: more Dagna!

mmmm sorry half a sleep but seem to rcall in the epilogur that the dwarf lady returns to the dwarf city and sets up a mage school there. Can not recall all the gist but anyone whos completed the game and helped Dagna should see it mentioned in the epilogue.

Dwarves are immune to lyrium

A merchant in Orzammar disagrees with that. He got lyrium into his system and it's sent him a bit loopy, so I wouldn't say Dwarves are "immune" to it, they just react differently to it. http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Garin if you wish to see.
I would like to see Dagna make a reappearance, yes, but certainly not as a mage unless Mr Gaider & team can somehow find a reasonable, decent reason for Dwarves being able to cast magic. Doubt it'll appear in Awakening if it can be done, however.

Dagna should certainly not be a mage. Rather imagine her running through the tower, touching this shelf, commenting that thing, freaking out the mages trying to practice their spells and power-questioning the tranquils. Later, when she gets used to all this new and exciting Circle of Magi thing, she starts studying the books, uncovering all kinds of secrets and hording a lot of knowledge the other tower inhabitants do not have time for, because they have to practice their magic.

Allison,

I would not have a problem with Dagna studying Templar-style abilities. Though I would have a problem with her becoming Chantry-fied, so to speak.

Re: Lyrium and dwarves-- You see at least two examples of "lyrium addling" for dwarves. So it does affect them. It just doesn't aid them in entering/manipulating the Fade.

Uh, guys? 'Camp Follower' probably isn't the phrase most of you are looking for, especially in relation to Dagna. I've seen this misunderstanding occur on other threads, so I'm just going to include the definition:
1. a civilian not officially connected with a military unit, esp. a prostitute, who follows or settles near an army camp.

While it can mean a vendor or a person providing a service other than sexual (ie. laundress), it is almost always a euphamism for prostitutes who followed armies to ply their trade to the point of becoming a synonym.

Dagna was a great character and her quest was "emotionally engaging". I didn't want to split her up with her family, but I also didn't want to crush her dreams. That was a truly hard choices.

Dagna wants to study magic, but as a dwarf she can't become a mage. Having her re-appear as a magic-oriented scholar in the future, however, might be kind of cool.

The epilogue refers to her as a mage. Should this be considered more of an honorary title then, kind of like Seth MacFarlane getting an honorary degree from Harvard? ;-)

Hehe, I was wondering when someone was going to note what that phrase meant. Yes, it carried a very negative connotation.

I've had some thoughts on the subject of Dwarven mages.
Sure, they can't access the Fade, but there's gotta be other ways to use magic. Muskets using lyrium dust instead of gunpowder come to mind (don't the Qunari already have cannons?), as does just plain old sleight of hand and misdirection (I suggested this in another thread).
Besides, don't Templars use magic? Dwarves can use Templar talents, so obviously there's *some* precedent.
And the lyrium immunity probably wouldn't affect surface Dwarves. Why would it? They hardly ever touch the stuff.
And what of Genlock Emmisaries? They're somehow related to Dwarves, not gonna say how as it's kinda spoilery, but if they can use magic... I mean, the Darkspawn taint is pretty clearly magical, so maybe some Dwarves could find a way to use it to use magic? And then there's Demons. A possessed Dwarf, or at least a Dwarf who made some kind of pact with a Demon could probably wield some serious mojo.
Also, an Enchanter specialization would be awesome. Some kind of on-the-fly version of actual enchanting, maybe using spells like Flaming/Frost Weapons and other similar effects. I'd play it.

Dwarven Templars are only possible in-party because Bioware did not put lore restrictions on character specialization choices. That's not a "precedent."

Dwarves becoming Templars are like Qunari becoming Templars or Wynne becoming a Blood Mage. It should not be. Now I could see Dagna studying Templar talents and how they work. But she's not Chantry, so I doubt they'd teach her how to use them. Remember, Alistair is very clear that the Chantry does not want those secrets getting out.

Also, Qunari cannon are technology, not magic. Qunari kill mages on principle.

Here's my question, though: how do specializations like the Templar and Reaver fit in with the lore restricting magical talent to a very select few, and will Dagna invent more abilities like theirs (read: limited supernatural abilities that non-mages are capable of using) in the future?
