I remember from a Sci Fi book I read that when the Earth Fleet had to go up against these all powerful Reaper Like beings, all they did was build rammer type ships that would activate their FTL drives and plow into the Enemy. The force of an FTL impact destroyed even those beings with an incredible technological advantage.
Perhaps that could work against the reapers too, but you would need the Rammers to be manned by mostly mechs or AI to reduce the casualty rate...

Yeah, that'd work pretty well. Here's to hoping they put that in!

Doesnt FTL go through objects?

The Reapers will win, just like that. Whether they are the good guys or not - it is irrelevant. The cycle has been going for an eternity.
Alternatively, a completely alien race of little green insect-type machines will appear out of nowhere and destroy the Inhibitors (uh oh, I meant Reapers, yeah, right, Reapers.. They are so totally not ripped off of the Inhibitor machines from A. Reynold's books).

No one is going to go through all the trouble and effort of playing a trilogy just for it to end with the reapers winning. The reapers are going to get their shiny metallic carapace whooped, we are gonna tear those tin cans a new ventialation shaft!!! Hooah!!

A) Build an army large and powerful enough to combat the intergalactic threat
C) Aid in the continued reaping of our galaxy
Salvation through destruction, or at least that's what I hope it turns out to be, unlikely thought it is.
As for the ending most of you are envisioning, it's been stated by Dev's that Sheppard will die in ME3. What will most likely happen is that Sheppard will sneak onto Harbinger as a huge space battle goes on outside and activates the self destruct while he stays behind to occupy / weaken Harbinger enough for it to work. The rest of the team runs for the Normandy while he holds the hordes of enemies off. Roll sad montage.

First, get a bunch of volus.
Second, expose them to a large amount of red sand.
Then we will have an army of "Biotic Gods" to take on the seemingly invincible reapers. We cannot Lose... for about 5 seconds... Questions?
However, on another note. Reading all this speculation is making my brain go in over drive mode. All these theories and possibilities. Although, i seem to agree with the idea that the reapers are working together to ensure that the human race is safe guarded by a greater threat. Hence, are using destruction to prevent total annihilation of all human life.
But I'm sure about, is that we are in for a HUGE twist when Mass Effect 3 comes out. Can't Wait! Keep up the EPIC story Bioware!

Well, there are several reasons that might lead people to this speculation, all mainly based on Tali's recruitment quest on Haestrom.Phinub wrote...

Dark energy converts suns into mass relays.
a) Haestrom's sun is becoming increasingly unstable and it is likely to "evolve" into a red giant in the near future.
c) Tali's research has shown that dark energy inside the star seems to be responsible for the rapid "ageing" of the sun.
d) Dark energy is the energy tied to all types of mass effect fields - biotics, FTL drives and mass relays among them.
e) The Reapers are the suspected creators of the Citadel and the relay network so they should have a superior knowledge about dark energy and its uses.
f) The Reapers have to come up with a new plan to enter the galaxy.
So if we combine those things and assume that the entire Reaper strategy to enter the galaxy is/was based on using the Citadel's secret mass relay and all attempts to open that relay so far have been foiled by Shepard, the Reapers need a different plan. So why not using their knowledge of dark energy to create a new mass relay?
That's at least one possible explanation if one wants to see the Haestrom event as important to the main story.
Another one would be that we could somehow turn that dying star into a weapon against the Reapers, of course.

Seems quite far fetched that they're distantly influencing a star so that it turns into a gateway (the entrance/exit of which should likely show up at a random location no?). There is also the problem that a mass relay is technology (complex enough that no council race knows how they work), not a natural phenomena.Tankfriend wrote...

And lastly i'm fairly confident the Reapers are flying towards the galaxy at the end of ME2, and we can't honestly know if it's going to take them a long time to get there or not. So would they even need a plan?

Do think this is the only galaxy that the Reapers harvest? Perhaps they are busier then we think during the 50,000 year intervals.
Also, to the guy who said that FTL makes you go through things, I am not exactly sure how fast the rammer ships were going in that book. I know they were going extremely fast (fast enough to where the impact was more powerful then several hydrogen bombs) but I just said FTL to connect it more to Mass Effect.
