Ok im not sure how it happened buy one day when i was trying to start up ME2 a message poped up that it couldent recognize the disk or something like that so I checked my computer and found out the dvd rom drive no longer appeared on the screen and to add to my frustration my other disk drive is jamed shut so now I am unable to play any games, movies, cds, ect. Is there anyway to get my computer to recognize the dvd rom drive again?

Sorry to say, there is no possible way that Mass Effect 2 ruined your optical drives. When these type of drives fail, they do things such as what you describe. In effect, your optical drives died pure and simple, and the only thing you can do is take a paperclip, look for a little hole on the front of the drive, insert the paper clip, to get the drive tray out, and pull your disk out. Then go to a local shop and get new optical drives for your machine.
I've had this issue in the past with a dying DVDROM, that at that time had been made by Toshiba, and the only thing I could do was replace the drive, which I did at that time, with a 16X LG DVDROM.
Truthfully, there is no way your computer or Windows will recognize a dead DVDROM anymore.

Yep I hit similar issues twice (on Vista, not game related).
One it was a CD jammed inside the optical drive, which made Vista not recognize that drive at all. Reboot did not help, nor scanning for hardware changes in the Device Manager, so I forced that drive to open and closed it manually (opened it with a paper clip as described above). Surprisingly it helped (coincidence or not) – the drive started working with another reboot and has been working since.
The previous time it was more complicated though. To put it short, determined to solve my problem I went to my Device Manager and deleted all my IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. It took two reboots (prompted by the system).
It can bring positive results but can be problematic if you have a RAID system and don't know how to reinstall it... (I don’t have one). And create a system restore point, just in case, if you wanted to try it. In my case one drive proved to be dead, nothing could help that, but the performance of the other one has visibly improved… so maybe it’s worth trying?

Sometimes disabling the autorun on the drive helps in such cases... or inserting the disc a few times in a row. But it's not a universal solution...

The good news is optical drives are cheap, and that is also the bad news. I got a DVD drive when they first came out and it cost me $250. It still works, but subsequent drives that cost under $50 tend to die in a few years.
So I went back to expensive drives, and have not had another failure. Oh, and the drives companies like Dell use fall in to the under $50 category.
