Hey guys,

I'm just wondering how to just BEFRIEND Jack while playing as a male shepard.  No matter what I do, I always end up romancing her some how.  I try being nice, she thinks I'm coming on to her, I tell her not interested, and she gets pissed and hates me.  I act renegade, she still hates me.

My question is:  Is it possible to be nice to her with out romancing her?  I just wanted to be friends....yeah, I know that sounds corny......

I've gone through twice now as a male Shep and I haven't found a way. The first time I tried being nice and she was waiting for me to dump Tali for some odd reason. The second time I specifically told her "not interested" and now she's pissed. Doesn't seem to be a middle ground with her, at least as a male Shep.

Can't be done. Jack is one or the other, there is no friend option. Hell, there's barely a friend option for any of the romantic interests this time around...

This really pissed me off in ME2. Bioware AGAIN made it impossible just to be friends with the opposite sex (if they're romancable). Miranda wanted to bang me. Jack wanted to bang me. Tali wanted to bang me - and ALL of them got pissy at me when I told them I didn't want them for that reason. Jack was especially disappointing because she's not even civil to you anymore.

Bioware really, really needs to work on how they deliver these romances. I don't care for them - I shouldn't be forced in to one just so I can stay on good terms with a character. It's bull****.

T1I, you don`t lose loyalty if you never romance anyone.

At least with Tali, I know she dosen`t tell you anything about things other than romance if you start to choose to romance her at the point where she can be. If you don`t want to romance her, taht's the end of her conversations. So you're not "losing anything" by not romancing her.

IIRC she gives you the exact same "dosen`t have anythign more to say" response after you turn her down as she did before you talked to her about romance, if you did at all.

Biggest disappointment for me in ME2, can't talk non-romantically to potential romantic interests.

No, but their dialogue just ends. That's it. You say, "No thanks, not interested" and BAM - you're sidelined with them and they turn in to Garrus clones constantly "doing calibrations". It just really pissed me off that they're all chatty and talkative with you UNTIL they find out you don't want to get your stick wet.

The thing is that in Mass Effect 1 you couldn't avoid relationships with Ashley or Liara unless you were a total ****** to them. If you looked at them funny, they wanted to jump your bones. It's exactly the same in ME2. There is literally no way of being nice to a romancable female in this game without them wanting to bang you.

I haven't tried this, but have you tried just choosing the neutral/middle option in dialouge?

Actually in ME1 you could turn them down and stay at the "just friends" level and they would still talk to you.  That was actually a choice with Liara.  You'd just miss a few conversations if you picked it, but she wouldn't stop talking to you.  I liked that a lot more then being forced to flirt or be a ****** to them.

I really didn't like how my female shepard was forced to talk in sexy talk whenever just trying to have a conversation with Jacob. It's like her only options were to be flirty. I totally ignored talking to Jacob for fear of being forced into a relationship.

What really pisses me off is not so much the romances themselves, but that the LIs FORCES YOU TO PICK SIDES. I've had to play the game twice because the 1st time I did it I romanced Miranda, but was friendly to Jack at the same time and bang! Miranda simply STOPPED BEING INTERESTED.

The second time I deliberately played my game in a way that would allow me to have 100% paragon in the hopes of charming my way out of the catfight. But nope, since I've already romanced Miranda by then there's no way I can even avoid offending the other option. I mean what the f**k? Somehow I get the feeling Bioware is screwing me over here...

That's true, actually. It was one of the things Bioware got right in Dragon Age. The romances were completely optional and there wasn't any stone-walling when you didn't pursue one. The characters were really well done in DA. A missed opportunity here.

I only play female characters, but found it was rather easy to talk to Jacob, Thane and Garrus without giving them the wrong impression. I've especially heard a lot of women screaming over Jacob being impossible to "befriend" because everything they say is flirtatious, but I'm beginning to think it might have something to do with people blindly choosing dialog options instead of thinking about what they're about to say. I've played both paragon and renegade characters who never once gave him the wrong idea about being just friends, so I have to disagree with it being impossible.

For Jack, I wouldn't be surprised if she does not have a friendship track with a male Shep (she barely has one with a female Shep, and that's just how she is), but watching my husband's game, I know that Miranda's lovetalks can be avoided pretty easily. As far as Tali goes, I'm fairly sure she gives you several chances to gracefully bow out from the very start.

And that makes me think it´s weird since in Dragon Age you can still be friends with potential lovers, so Bioware has done exactly what you mention before...

Huh, i made a friend of her just fine when i was romance'in Tali in my game.

When Jack goes "Are you eyeing me up", u just say no (neutral option i think)..
After that there wasnt anything, she even said i was alright after the suicide mission. =p

Not true. Tali, Garrus and Jacob are all ok if you turn them down

I don't think you can keep talking to crew members of the opposite sex without having sex with them. I don't see this as a problem Posted Image.

100%, i did the same thing with Miranda.
Didnt choose "paragon or the renegade" options. I always went for the middle choice.

Then again i had already begon romancing Tali at the time so mabye that had an effect.
