How to be FRIENDS with Jack, WITHOUT romancing her?

And yes, more friendship options for members of both genders would've been appreciated.

So the only problem I see is Jack. And yes, you can resolve the cat-fights using charm options even if you're in a relationship with one of them. I solved the Tali-Legion thing very simply.
In ME1, I specifically told Ash I wanted to stay friends. In the next conversation, she was like "So, are you still interested in me?" And I was like "Ummm... crazy ho said what?"

Huh, i made a friend of her just fine when i was romance'in Tali in my game.
When Jack goes "Are you eyeing me up", u just say no (neutral option i think)..
After that there wasnt anything, she even said i was alright after the suicide mission. =p
But I did do the neutral option, and I still somehow romanced her! Are you positive??????
100%, i did the same thing with Miranda.
Didnt choose "paragon or the renegade" options. I always went for the middle choice.
Then again i had already begon romancing Tali at the time so mabye that had an effect.
When Jack confronted me with the "do you have feelings for me" dialogue, I chose the neutral option and still ended up in a romance with her. Maybe you have to choose the nuetral option in most of her conversations to avoid romance?
In any case, Bioware seriously needs to pull a DA:O and make the romance options friend-able in ME3. I don't enjoy pissing off characters I like just because the game realizes I won't screw them. <_<

I haven't tried this, but have you tried just choosing the neutral/middle option in dialouge?
Apparently the options on the right are arranged like this (from top right to bottom right)
-Lets bang!
- Wait...what? Ok. Let's bang!
- Sorry, gay.

It also seems Shepard had more tact in ME1. I remember being able to pass on a romance by simply not going there, whereas in ME2 it seems like it's always "turning them down".

I loved the feeling of "man...I could really be a 'bff' with this guy" feeling I got from that game. Each relationship felt unique and personal. In Mass Effect you do more listening than anything.

Tali says she's interested, you can back her off.
Miranda flirts with you, you can say to keep it professional.
Kelly's dialogue is obvious.
I've tired everything with Jack, no luck. Renegade options = Renegade romance, Neutral and Paragon options = Paragon romance.

Biggest disappointment for me in ME2, can't talk non-romantically to potential romantic interests.
Thane is the only female LI with much to say to MaleShep.
Garrus and Shepard go back to the first game, you think there's be an option to spar, or play darts, or something.

Male Shepards, on the other hand, have to beat off potential LIs with a stick. My best guess as to the reason for the difference is that BioWare assumed male gamers would react better to members of the opposite sex throwing themselves at their character. Which is probably true.

I do with I could've hung out with Garrus and talked about more than we could.

I more or less got this too. When the subject of sex came up, I just said I wasn't interested. It seemed a little touch and go for a while, but overall we seemed to be friends in the end. She even gave me an awesome "sup" head nod as I was walking across the normandy to get that datapad from Joker in the end sequence. Since I really like Jack and sort of want to be the friend she seems to need, but would prefer to romance Tali, I'm glad I was able to get something close to that.

Yeah, some people wanted to climb anything and everything that has a hole in it, including Legion, but most character progression is simply cut if you don't romance the given character. The biggest flaw of the game. Well, there is one little chit-chat maybe, but that's it, opposed to ME1 where you could still explore the character.
With Jack, the easiest way to pull out a friendship is to act nice, but not showing interest in a romance (the lines are pretty obvious) while you already have a romance developing. If that helps.

Good to know!
I was so puzzled on my first play through as to why I kept getting the "I'd like to talk about us" dialogue option. I kept thinking, "WTF did I say to initiate romance?!" I did NOT want to do that with her. Ug. Nonono.
I ended up just ignoring her the whole game. She survived the end, so I guess that worked out okay, but I could not speak with her again without launching further romance. Grr.
I loathe the idea of being forced into a romance with a char.

I had a similar feeling. Seems in ME1 if you picked the friendship route with a potential LI, they would still talk to you and tell you their story after each mission and stuff. In ME2 it seems that the potentials have nothing to say after you turn them down.

Shepard is a galactic hero now... before he was just a secret agent.
