So just out of curiosity, I just started playing the game and want to romance Tali, is there any way to do this without being a dbag to Jack?

When Jack asks if you are interested in her... say no.  In romance dialogues you don't have to worry about Paragon/Renegade points (unless you are a real douche when you say it) or just want to sleep with Jack.  Then you can say no romance after you say you aren't interested.  Romance averted... and you can go have fun with "Chicken Legs" Tali.

When Jack goes "Are you eyeing me up", u just say no (neutral option i think)..
After that there wasnt anything, she even said i was alright after the suicide mission. =p

Wait a second!!!  Did you have this conversation with her BEFORE or AFTER her loyalty mission??????

Choose neutral options when talking to her.

EX: "If this is just about sex, why don't you ****ing say so?"

answer choice is: no.

Biggest disappointment for me in ME2, can't talk non-romantically to potential romantic interests.

I was disappointed by this too.  I stuck with Ashley, which meant I missed out on a lot of great dialogue with the other female characters because as soon as it was determined I wouldn't be sleeping with them the conversations all shut down.

But I LIKE Miranda!  Why can't we be buds?!

But Jack acts pissy with everyone after a certain point in the game if your not romancing her. My FemShep talked with her long enough that she thought I was hitting on her. "I'm not part of the girl's club Sheperd" was the response I ended up getting, and every conversation I tried after that was the same dialogue: "I know you like to talk but I'm not in the mood for that so ****** off" or something to that effect. So basically, you're screwed on the "friends only" front, but so is everyone else. >.>

Definitely one of the more irritating aspects of the game is the brick wall you face if you don't pursue a romance path, either because you don't want to or because you can't due to your character's gender. So those who want to keep things platonic can't get past Jack's bitter shell at all, ever, no matter what kindness and understanding they show. Yeah, it bugs me.

I've gone through twice now as a male Shep and I haven't found a way. The first time I tried being nice and she was waiting for me to dump Tali for some odd reason. The second time I specifically told her "not interested" and now she's pissed. Doesn't seem to be a middle ground with her, at least as a male Shep.

Nothing for Female Shepard either.  She just has issues.  Not worth the time, imo.

I have been saying this all along they need to incorporate some sort of specific dialog option that will turn on a romance option. You should have to earn the right to "Express Romantic Interest" like you did in DAO, with gifts and loyalty quests. I would like to see any character romancable each with thier own set of criteria, that the player must figure out, just like in a normal relationship. Once the player has done the right quests in the right way, may require paragon or renegade decisions depending on the character, bought a few gifts for that character, a dialog option will pop up next time the player chats with a character something to the effect of "Express Romantic Interest". As long as the player does not use the "Express Romantic Interest" dialog option, he/she will remain friends with the character, this way it is possible to not romance anyone with out the unnecessary hostility. Once they have used this option on a character, it locks out any attempts to romance another character. It should be possible with this system to have every character willing to let you into thier knickers, and the player not choose anybody, yet still remain friendly with everyone.

Just an idea from the cheap seats

Easily one of the more jarring aspects of the game. I was romancing Miranda but talking to Jack as well, trying to convince her that she was not worthless and crack through her shell. Then once, out of the blue, Jack gets all angry and asks me to choose. I was a bit confused because I didn't believe any of my responses indicated that I wanted in her pants.

Tali will still be your friend if you turn her down, and Miranda will remain professional. Jack, however, is sex or nothing. While it does suck that you can't just "be her friend", I think it fits her character. She doesn't want a friend. She says as much right when you first talk to her. It sucks, but that's who she is. She'll either stonewall you or let you in completely. No middle ground.

I do with I could've hung out with Garrus and talked about more than we could.

This.

Jack's a Psyco, a extremist person. She loves you or hates you. I though that was realistic (but a pain in the ass during my first playthrough).

And I do was a "friend" with Miranda. She only mentioned a possible "romance" (just sex, really) once, I said "let's stay professional" and anything happened. No anger or anything like that.

And, well, I think it's normal that sometimes SOMEONE ELSE feels something for you in a level you don't. I mean, come on, if you like someone, you are gonna like him/her no matter how he/she treats you. These are some kind of feelings you can't control.

Tali will be interested in Shepard no matter what you do (although she may be able to continue being your "friend" because she wants at least that), Jack will think that a man can only be interested in her in a very specific way, and Miranda just wants to forget Jacob LoL.

The fact that you can't fully control your relationship with your characters the way you like to is interesting, and very real. Troublesome, but real.

Top options early on, but then center options, and a flat out "i'm not interested" when asked (which tends to be a bottom right answer, but not renegade). My male shep became friends with no romance...

This is what I am going to try:
When asked by Jack "You got a lot of questions, don't you?" There are three prompts
1. I'm interested. [Paragon] <--------(I am chosing this)
2. Goodbye [Leave]
3. So what? [Renagade]

Next she will ask "Shepard, you got feelings for me? 'Cause I don't need the complication."
Three prompts comes up.
1. I do. (She will feel acceptive of the answer, which will lead to romanace)
2. You don't sound convinced. (She will still feel like you are towing with her, but will lead to romance anyways)
3. No. (Opinion: I am going to guess will not lead to romance, but a respectiful answer) <---I am choosing this

After choosing the answer "No." Jack will say "Good. I didn't want you coming around here anymore anyway."
Two prompts will come up
1. [TOP] Is there an issue? [Still leaves a chance to romance or just friends, but grants you chance to get a few more paragon, by keep talking] <----Picked this
2. [BOTTOM] Agreed. No romance. [Keeps this strickly bussiness, but can no longer talk with her]

Take a mission and come back to Jack
Jack will say "Why? I'm not interested in some dunb**** love affair. It never goes right."
Three prompts will appear.
1. Why do you keep running? (I am choosing this)
2. Never mind.
3. What the hell is your problem?

She will talk about her last love. Then says "How he loved me and he was sorry it wasn't going to happen."
Three prompts will appear.
1. You have survivor's guilt? (I am choosing this)
2. Tragic.
3. I assume you took revenge.
She will then say "You feel, you get sloppy. It's that damn simple. He found out, and you'll find out"
Three prompts appear
On the left "He saved you" (is a loop) (Ideal pick)
On the right,
1. I Admit it, I can't fix this. (I choosed this)
2. Would it kill you to try?

Then she will say "No Kidding. Told you we wouldn't work. Guess you'll be spending more time upstairs"
Two prompts appear.
1. [Top] I'm staying right here. (Leads into a romance scene with Jack)
2. [Bottom] This was a bad idea. Goodbye. (Jack will respectifully accept it, she knows it was a bad idea in the first place. This is will end any conversations with her and will also lock a romance with her) I am choosing this

Everything I picked granted me all of the possible paragon without getting in a relationship with her.
