Can you please let us know what ATI video card, that is actually available on the market today, is best compatible with this game?   And why would you state that your recommended video card is one that no one can buy anymore unless they find it on eBay?

Thanks for a serious answer.

Interesting! I tried to Quote and reply, and to use "Full Form", in both cases, I got an error message about not being allowed to execute that choice? Hmmm!

Only the second part asked is anything suitable for this forum (you're now talking to other gamers here, you know). The developers choose the oldest card at the performance level they want to refer to. Always.

Incidentally, it is still my opinion that Bioware has almost no knowledge at all about how Radeon video cards actually work in this game, and for that matter, even the lowest-named Geforce is quite questionable.  Now that the game is out, it seems that the developers have grossly overstated this game's need for CPU power, while fairly seriously underestimating video card power required.

The X850 is probably 40 - 50% faster than a 6600 GT.  I really suspect that the Vanilla Geforce 6800 is a more reasonable choice, as is the X800 GTO.  The Vista minimum 7600 GT looks reasonable, but that card is about three times faster than the Radeon X1550, so my opinion is that the X1650 XT makes a much better minimum to name there for a Radeon.

To keep it short and sweet, I haven't had any problems with my 4870. Running the 9.10 Catalyst drivers, and I've only had one crash thus far, whilst on a loading screen. This is after about 50 hours of play.

Whatever you do, don't get a 3870. That's the card that most people, including me, are having problems with.

4850 is probably the cheapest card that will high/max this game.

1920x1080 for me, but otherwise I'm happy with it running the same settings. (I did have some cursor size issues at first, but those affected more than Dragon Age and went away with a motherboard BIOS update.)

Well, since that is a six year olf video card, and was crap when new, it is my immediate suspicion that this is nothng but an attempted TROLL to draw derision.

If by some chance, you have lived under a rock for five years, hiding under it  with the pillbugs, that crap video card was no good in 2003, and of course, it's just older and crappier today!

I enjoy playing with my HD4890 everything on maximum and it runs smoothly.

It has a lot of power for such a cheap card.

I'm currently using a low end ATI card that seems to run everything I play. I have a Sapphire (ATI) 4670 with 512mb. My settings are:

Graphics Detail : High

Anti-Aliasing: Off

Texture Detail: High

Screen size: 1600x1200 (4:3) on a 20" Viewsonic

Game play has been smooth, haven't had any frame slow downs. I'm using older drivers though Cat 9.4's

2 4870X2s running in 1920x1080 with 2.5quad all settings maxed, no problems and game runs smoothly at all times. Lots of room for texture mods...

I actually have the exact same result.  I have been playing for about 30 hours and I have a 4870 on 9.10 drivers.  I had one crash on a loading screen but that probably just happened to be because I minimized on accident.

That is among the best of MEDIUM cards, not "Low End".  The one you think you have would be an HD 4350 if it was actually for business.  Mainline game playing cards have the n600 performance number, like your "670".

The 4850 is a bad buy. It is a weak card with a junk ram chip. The 4870 is totaly different. When you look at radeon cards remeber the xx50 series is econo model and often not even as good as the previous generation xx70 series.

The 3870 seems to run very well on the 9.1 drivers but it is limited with respect to streaming video and there is a ton of issues posted with it. The minimum ATI anyone should look at is the 4870 concidering it is already very outdated and costs 1/4 of what did at this time last year.

The progress from generation to generation is not at all constant.  The two HD 3800s were both less speedy that the top HD 2900 in raw performance, although they added new functions and features.  Only the X2 card was faster than the HD 2900 XT.  The old series steps were SE, Vanilla, Pro, and XT, with XTX not always offered.  The HD 4830 amounts to a "Vanilla" version, the 4850 to the "Pro:, and the 4870 to the "XT".

I was just surpised to see a "4860" model listed.  That woukld equate to the older "XL" suffixed versions.

Looking at the 4850 vs 4870, I do not see any huge gap in performance:

I'm also using a 4670, but mine is the 1 gb version. I have it at max overclock settings in Catalyst, and it plays the game nicely at maxed settings at a moderate resolution with AA/AF turned on. The only thing is it does run hot in the 70's, but that is still a normal temp for a video card. I found it last year for ~$70, and I imagine they are dirt cheap now. I saw all the 4800 series cards are very cheap now that the 5000 series cards are out. It all depends on your budget.

The 4600 series cards are appealing if you have a crap power supply that doesn't have a 6 pin PCI power connector (typical of most prefab builds).

Grab the best 4xxx or 5xxx card you can afford.

Though it does seem that , with this game, CPU power comes into play a lot more.
