I wanted to search the forum to see if anyone had this problem but I couldn't find the 'awesome search feature'. Anyway I have been playing Mass effect 2 for quite some time now with no problem. When I opened the game today, it was as if I was opening it for the first time. I got notified about creating an online account, the resume button is gone from the main menu and when I go to load game, all I can do is import my ME 1 character and start a new game. All my save game files are there in documents/bioware/mass effect 2/save. It seems that it wont load my profile when the game starts. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this. Knowing how to search through this forum would be nice to.

Correction to my earlier post...the "save" folder at my documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect2\\Save is completely empty. How this happened, I have no idea. It worked fine last night. I was on the Citadel, I saved my game and went to sleep. This morning, it was like I had never played the game before.

I solved the problem! For myself at least... Maybe my solution can help you too, Lamar5000.
It turns out I accidentally dragged the "BioWare" folder in the "My Documents" folder into the folder next to it. When I started up ME2 this morning, the game recreated a NEW BioWare folder in the My Documents folder and fooled me into thinking that my save games had somehow been deleted. One I restored the inadvertently moved BioWare folder to its rightful location, everything is back to working as intended.

I'm going to assume there is no autosave for this game? I played through about 2.5 hours from the begining until my charactar got hung up on some unseen object. I as unable to save anyway...the save option on the menu was grayed out. You'd think by now Activision/Bioware would have updated all these issues with the high level of complaints about the subject. For me, I am used to Blizzard games, their level of polish and product completion. I do not have the patience for a company so unwilling to make a competant product. I am uninstalling the game a plan to return it today. I wil not buy another bioware product. I suggest others do the same.

There is an autosave function.
The greyed out save button only happens a few times in game, in plot specific areas which would not be the best to save/reload into the middle of.
Yuo should have a save for the statr of the mission, and depending on which mission it was, another autosave further into it.
