I'm trying to choose a bonus power for my [NG+] Infiltrator.

On my first playthrough, I maxxed out both Shredder ammo (bonus power) and Disruptor Ammo, as one is supposed to work on organics, and the other synthetics/shield. I'm not sure how the mechanics of this work, but that should cover every single enemy, right?

The game doesn't explain mechanics very well, but does Shredder ammo only affect damage done to Organic Health? Or does it give out the 80% damage bonus on an Organic's Shields/Armor/Barrier?

I'm torn, because while Warp Ammo works on everything, it does not provide as large a bonus to damage as switching between the 2 ammos depending on enemy type. Got any thoughts?

Organic Health - which makes Shredder Ammo basically pointless.

Shedder ammo has very limited utility, especially on higher difficulty, because it only affects organic health

I personally am a fan of warp ammo because it is so effective against Collectors, which are your main end game enemy. I used it the whole time on an infiltrator HC playthrough. With warp ammo, the Infiltrator has both anti-mech with distruptor and anti-all organics with warp. Even though it does 20% less damage to armor and health than armor piercing, it is effect against barrier as well, which no other ammo type can effect. Very nice for dealing with those asari commandos and collectors.

If your character has ways around shields and/or armor then I'd go with shredder amno which is potentially more devastating. However if you just want to blast something away without worrying about combos then I'd just stick with Warp Amno.

Shredder ammo is just pointless, by the time the enemy is onto their health bar they're screwed anyway. Far better to have ammo that strips all/most defenses types.

Assuming you're just playing the game holding the right trigger.  For those of us who actually use our powers to get around the defenses before we start shooting wildly shredder amno can be quite effective especially when used with relatively low power weapons (Heavy Pistol, SMG.)

Armor Piercing ammo (Tungsten when fully upgraded) is better than both.

I actually prefer the Shredder ammo, Once it's upgraded I can cut down Harbingers with ~3 bursts from my BR. That being said I have yet to get up to HC or insanity.

Yup, AP lvl 4  (Tungsten)  gives 70%  bonus damage.

...are you sure? Harbringer doesnt have organic health. He only has Barriers + Armor. If Shredder Ammo is allowing you to do more damage against organic armor, then the ammo might be a lot better than I initially thought... hmm...

Shredder ammo is literally useless on Insanity, everything starts with armor, shields or barriers. Harbringer also doesn't have organic health, he only has a barrier + armor, once those are gone he will die.

It's really a choice between Tungsten (armor piercing) or Warp ammo. Tungsten ammo is 20% better on armor/health targets, Warp ammo is 50% better on barriers. From an experience perspective with Infiltrator, Warp ammo comes out better since Collectors all have barriers.

But I also play an Infiltrator, Widow absolutely destroys anything with armor, while a little weaker against shields/barriers. Its almost unfair how much damage I can do with a well placed cloak + headshot, even on Insanity difficultly I will 1-shot Collectors.

I'm torn, because while Warp Ammo works on everything, it does not provide as large a bonus to damage as switching between the 2 ammos depending on enemy type. Got any thoughts?

Stick with Warp ammo, anything synthetic or shield = Disrupter ammo, anything else (health/armor/barrier) = Warp ammo. Also to make something clear if you aren't sure, barriers are not shields.

Yeah, the choice should actually be Armor Priercing Ammo versus Warp Ammo. In the end you are trading +15% team or +20% individual damage against health and armor from AP Ammo for damage against barriers (+35% and +50% respectively) from Warp Ammo. For 95% of the game Barriers are not a factor in any majority. As a result AP Ammo is much better for most of the game. For the Horizon and Suicide missions Warp Ammo would be the better choice.

Personally I just stuck with Squad AP Ammo and used Heavy Warp (x3; Sentinel, Miranda and Thane) to deal with barriers.

Warp Ammo is more useful as a general ability, but against your run-of-the-mill mercenaries, Armor Piercing is much better.

Well, with the Widow, it doesn't really matter, since you'll probably one-shot them if you're using Assassination Cloak and the Visor, and get headshots most of the time.

incineration ammo and AP ammo are the best in the game. Disruption ammo is good vs synthetics but non-essential.

Not much to debate... its a matter of preferance. I use AP on my infiltrator. My team usually contains jack and she does have warp ammo on herself.

I skill her on Squad ammo with Warp.. so my teammates will have warp ammo while i slot in disruptive or AP ammo as needed. barriers drop fast, shields drop fast and armor drops fast. And if i need an extra AP punch, i slot in the Tungsten Ammo on my Widow.

With the +Headshot Damage helmet (the only one that doesn't look like one), the other armor pieces which up weapon damage, plus assassin cloak + assassin upgrade (i usually go Agent first till i am about to hit mid/end game... then respecc to assassin... Agent gives the higher Paragon/Regenade points bonus)...

And in Cases you know you will need damage... you pick miranda to cheer you and jack on. Yes the two of them don't pack the punch quite as well as others... but her +50% Squaddamage ability combined with your Widow...

Then AP bullets into the Widow... cloak on... and headshot whatever Armor tank you got there. Even those Scions crumble really fast with such a threatment.

I needed 6 shots like that for the final boss. The only time my final boss fight was faster was when i unleashed the Cain on the Reaper.

I have to admit, heavy shredder ammo on Thane when hes got a sniper rifle ready is pretty deadly for any targets at health.

Other than that, picking up Shredder ammo on Shepard is a complete waste.

Anyone know a way to make thane (or anyone else) not override squad ammo powers.

As a side note I like AP over warp.

Just as a reminder - you can retrain those bonus powers - so you might go with AP until you get o a collector mission sign up for Warp, then go back. With the start bonuses I don't think you'll run out of eezo.
