First off I want to start by saying that I absolutely love and appreciate Bioware and everything you guys do and that naturally I love both mass effects. Now the reason why I am writing this is that I have concerns about some things and like to point them out, but before that I should let everybody know that I am still to finish ME2 so please do not spoil anything for me as I am still playing that game, even if what I say calls for it, you will know what I mean in the following.

Its surprising how small things really affect things for example how in ME1 you would actually have to go to the normandy's door to exit and then you would have the walk way (the thing at ports that connect to ships' doors just like planes, sorry forgot their name) to the citadel for example and you get to see the normandy along with the amazing scenery. Now I know that this is in ME2 in a way, but just not quiet, I don't want to come off as picky or so I just want to give you an example of the magic I am talking about. I am not talking about personal preference like for example I like the original normandy's look (exterior) more than sr2, but that doesn't matter since that is personal pref and anyway I like both ships each in its own way and accept ME2 as what it is, which is great so no big deal here.

Another thing I want to point out is that I have never ever had any problems with elevators and liked that you actually had to ride the elevators rather than have a very well done loading and loved the mako, yes it had problems but as a whole I loved it and the uncharted worlds.
All of this (all points) gives it a more personal feeling more player-game interaction you feel incharge and have more options, explorations (citadel ME1, bare in mind I don't know if in ME2 it opens up more than just what it was on the first citadel visit in ME2) etc. . . more rpg.  I hope hammerhead is really all that good and fits in ME2.

I don't think I am alone when saying that It would have been better if you just made the inventory system better and more orginized with types and sections etc than scratching out the whole idea. I like what you did with the armor thou more types would have been great, I like the idea that every one has their own look, just as much as i like the diversity of ME1's armors with the squad and all, I like both of them the way they are. I hope you are getting what I am saying since it's a bit hard to describe. I appreciate both games the way they are and for what they are.

Now for the ideas please don't spoil anything ME2 since I can see may be something similar to what I am going to say happening. Flight, Flight combat, rpg flight combat for the normandy maybe, the different flying vehicles controllable and may be some RTS fleet combat. Now to explain I am not saying turn this into a flight, trade,rts game not at all, but may be as part of the story you get to have to fight or chase while in the normandy and it be done in an rpg way with commands and all mixed up with real time action, something like that (upgrades and all). rts as in may be have to command an entire fleet in combat and so you have all the menus, commands and options etc. Actual real time flying with the normandy may be and the small fighters or ships you see around the citadel. I think with everything done right it could add something amazing to an already astonishing series.

Please don't get me wrong I love what you are doing and everything you have done its rare to see a VG developer with your games and record it really is, just please don't stray towards the casual fans and away from rpg as many developers are. I really hope you don't get this the wrong way.
oh and not to get into crashes I want to point out a glitch (PC) which occurs when scanning planets, sometimes it goes straight from rich to depleted and the planet is still rich on minerals.

Yeah I get what you mean. Everything feels so "separate" compared to the first Mass Effect. When you exit the Normandy, you're suddenly at the station after a loading screen. I think for some occasions, the loading screens are good, for others, not so much. When taking the elevator in the normandy, the loading screen is great, because in ME1 that part was simply boring because there was nothing to do for a few seconds. However, when exiting the normandy, the decontamination part was kind of fun.



Also in ME2, a lot of missions are done after "appearing" somewhere. If you take the mission of recruiting Mordin for example, you go to a door, suddenly a loading screen, and then you're in this other area. It doesn't feel that you're still on omega. It might as well be another planet or something. It would be better if you would actually walk through the door and see that you arrived in the next area. The Archangel one however made sense, because you weren't allowed to see where you were going. And you actually saw the vehicle take off and land. So that's still fine.



Point is, some parts simply feel disconnected from others, when they're supposed to feel connected. And I think little details like showing them go through a door, then maybe a short loading screen, and see them coming out on the other side, would increase the experience a lot.

I think people complained about down time in ME1, elevators were down time. People didn't understand that they were frozen because the game was loading.



So, Me2, smaller Citadel, no elevators, nothing to complain about, the end.



But the stupidest thing is that you can 'press b' to end mission and return to the Normandy which is now at another planet. So you have to dock again if you had something left to do there.

I love that addition, it means you don't have to back-track across the entire level just to get back to your ship. I like how Bioware has shortcutted a lot of the boring walks that the first game forced upon us. Yes, that includes Mako driving.

Does anyone understand the word RPG. Role playing game, its called exploring places.  Why do people have a problem with this. Yeah all bioware did was make the game easier for me to beat quicker sad huh? It just doesn't feel like an Rpg as much.  I want exploration It never bothered me to walk back and forth. I felt like I was apart of the world more. Seriously.

I agree about the Normandy docking part. I like how it was done in ME1, with the whole 'Decontamination in progress'.

Sometimes the loading screens are suitable, but a lot of the time they break the continuity/immersion. The same goes for the mission complete screens. I'd rather have a small popup with 'mission complete', then access the journal to see the full details.

Mostly I prefer the elevators in ME1, compared to the loading screens in ME2. Then there was also the tram in Noveria. Perhaps there could be more variety in these 'loading areas', such as sitting in a taxi, or a dropship.

Yeah. I mean, the elevators in the Citadel weren't a problem, because you could always use the rapid transit with a loading screen. That was fine imo, except that you were forced to take an elevator to get to the normandy, and that you needed to go anywhere first before you were able to use the rapid transit to that place.. They should have a rapid transit to the normandy as well, and rapid transit should be usable from the start. I wish they could do it that way in the 3rd game, and same for Omega.

Inside the normandy, loading screens for the elevators are better because there's nothing to do.

The side mission landings are fine as well. Though the missions are very linear.. For some of them it's fine. Escorting the mech for example, or the spaceship on the cliff (that was AWESOME). But I would like some more open world side missions, where you for example need to find something in a non-linear environment. Much like the normandy crash site actually, but maybe a little larger. Normandy crash site was probably my favorite side-mission along with the ship on the cliff.

As for the combat, the cover system could use a few tweaks, like going from cover to cover.. Now it requires going out of cover, and going back into cover a meter away. It would improve if just like vaulting over a cover, one could vault to the left or right to another cover. Also, blind fire would be much appreciated.

As for the RPG elements, it's better now.. But more weapon variations would be appreciated, or weapon tweaks.. For example tweaking the heat production (or something else), allowing for less ammo, but more powerful bullets, or the other way around.. Also, more armor types, or more add-ons. Being able to tweak your shield- and health regeneration speed would also be cool.

On a sidenote, Mass Effect 2 is awesome, and I understand that there's only so much one can do in 2 years, and it's simply amazing that they made this awesome game in 2 years, but I simply hope, that Mass Effect 3 will improve on that, and I have no doubt Bioware will deliver, but we need to give them proper feedback and suggestions.

Thanks everyone for your replies its good to know that am not alone in this, I hope ME3 is more rpg. What do you think of the whole flight thing (without spoiling anything ME2 please) unless ofcoarse you did reply to that on purpose, in that case nevermind.
Another thing that really bugged me is ME1's length and from the looks of it ME2 doesn't seem all that long either. Is there a thread for ideas or something similar out there, I really want and hope Bioware looks at this.

The length doesn't really bother me. A longer game would be more tedious to replay, for me. Also I think the shorter length suits a cinematic game like this, where dialogue and cutscenes are prevalent.



Blind fire would be excellent, as mentioned above.



About the flight, I'm having trouble picturing how that could work.

I think you are the one that doesn't understand what RPG stands for. 
 A role-playing game (RPG) is a broad family of games in which players assume the roles of characters, or take control of one or more avatars, in a fictional setting.  Exploration is a theme in some RPG's, but it is not a defining aspect of the genre.

@ Op I think your ideas are terrible and I pray none of them appear in the sequel.

Longer sprint would be nice too (I'm pretty sure that a cybenetically enhanced soldier should be able to sprint for more than 20 metres). Bring back H/M/L armour types/models, with the biotic defense vs armour rating balance. And there should be a barber/hairstylist SOMEWHERE in the galaxy. I'd also like to see various manufacturers again. I believe they're still around in ME2 but it's hardly noticeable.

Oh and I would just LOVE to get my hands on one of my old Spectre Master Gear weapons (those that don't use clips)... I mean all those older type guns couldn't just dissapear over the two years between ME1 and ME2 right?

Yeah I know what you mean Eag07 (spectre grade weopons) I miss those too and the whole different manufactures thing

I have to admit the loading sequences weren't as involved as in ME1, even the elevator sequences would've been better since it made me feel like i was still in the action. These other loading sequences are like the elevators to me, but worst.

Also the main story seemed to slow down when you were recruiting members of your team. I enjoyed them, but a few more missions like Horizon or the Collector ship where your old squad members could've popped up to help, may have made a bigger difference to the

experience.

If Bioware do really view these posts, I'd love some DLC where Wrex, Liara or Ashley/Kaiden come to assist on some side missions.

Oh, and how about a little back story on Saren? Always liked his character, a mission to his homeworld maybe?

Or maybe finding a part of Sovereign that's still active on some remote world?

But then you need something to explore. Not driving around a rock and find nothing exept mayby a couple minerals doesn't make realy sense to me, also not in a RPG. And yes, the game is shorter. But allmost all the time you are playing. Not walking miles to go somewhere or drive the Mako for 5 miles and shoot 3 groups of enemey's. I liked ME2 a lot more, one of the biggest reasons is that you can call it playingtime, and not 15 hour walking and 5 hour playing. There is less spacebut the space that's there is used a lot better.
The points I had to make:
No "what did you think of the last mission?" after a mission that involvs a crewmember. Now you almost don't have any of that kind of conversations but "I'm busy, cause ....".

Also didn't I get a real "you are my friend"-feeling with this members. Youre Shepard gets that, but not you. And that's what I had (for exaple) with Garus in ME1. Now I even didn't have that in ME2 with Garus.

Zaeed, I know he was DLC. But I got the idea like when Bioware was making him the thought "Holy ****! We don't have DLC! Quick, lets make some!". He has no conversations, no challenge to recruit him, has no history exept starting the Blue Sun's. But the mission with him for gettings his loyati was awesome, respect for that one. Played that one 3 time's.
No conversations in the Brievingroom after a mission exept with Jacob and Mirranda, that's also a cause of that feeling like I said before. I wanted to now every thought of my members. I didn't get that ME1, but i was satisfied. Now i'm totaly not.

In the beginning scanning the planets was fun. But after a couple minutes it gets bored. Then i play a mission and do it again. But after a while it's just boring. There are to many planets to do that at al of them. And scanning them good I mean, not just hitting a couple time's the  "scanning "-button.

Anderson doesn't need to worry, i won't bite him. He could say more. I defeted the Collectors! He need to be happy but still i get the same conversations with him.

I couldn't say what I want. That's something I didn't had in ME1. I could say what I (not Shepard) really thinks about it, but now I have to choice sometims between 2 lines, well I disagree both of them.

And only a couple weapons? I miss the special weapons and armors and buy all of them. But I think editing some parts of it make it alright. Now I need to spend way less. So it is how you look at it.
But a positief thing was: Almost no elevators. I know, they where for loading. But it didn't mather how fast you PC was, you where a long time in the elevator. Now it's just a couple seconds, and not 20+ seconds.

For ME3 I really wish a space battle. The SR2 had huge guns after I upgrade it. And I only used them ones! 2 round of them, and you saw what happend to the collectors ship. Total destruction. I don´t need non-stop spacebattling, but 1 or 2 would be fun I think.

More crew to talk with on the way you talk to Kate, not like Presly in Me1. And a romancy with someone outside your team, like someone in your crew. I could do this mission with 5 other teammembers, not with only 5 crewmembers. So pleasy, involve them more.

Let me say everything, and do not show what I can't say cause my Paragorn is to low. If it's to low give a message but let me say it and  than deside (with how our relationship is for exapmle) of the line I sayd works. Mayby a little bit unclear, so a example:
Tane:  "Shaperd, i'm going to kill him! "
Shep (blue par option): "No, don't! "
Computer thinks of it works of not with looking at my releationship with him and my par points.
Works: 
Tane: "Alright"
Par is to low and no good releation: 
Tane:  "Screw you! "

There are a lot things that I didn't mention jet, but I think that every change from ME1 to ME2 is a good one. Exept the ones I just sayd.

Also should have the ability to remove any helmet like in mass effect as the terminus armor is a bit lame when you can't see your characters face

I like all of the points made by shizly. Especially the dialogue idea. The calcualion would be like:



Paragon = 10 points

Relationship with Thane = 6 points

Difficulty Check for Dialogue = 15

Success! DC 15 with roll of 16



Also, maybe with the "space battle" theme, you could make it like in KotOR. That is, you have a gun turret on the Normandy, and at random times you're attacked by Geth/Collectors/whatever, so you jump into the Gunner's seat and blast them out of space. But have it so you can try to escape, like in Jade Empire.

Sorry but, Bioware you could have made the Terminus armor upgradable, just saying I like how it looks just don't like having the helmet on forever. With that said, the interractions with your crew could have been more deep, rather than "Hello, don't talk to me anytime soon!"

I like the ME1 elevators when you talked and it lasted the whole ride not 1/8 of it and ME2 load when entering/leaving a planet and inside the Nomandy. I hope to see an old companion as my DLC some time soon Liara, Wrex, Kaiden/Ashley anyone?

I just got done playing though Mass Effect 2. Pretty much everything I saw was good except for two things I have something to say about.1. The side quests. The few side quests that existed were good but there wasn't enough of them. Maybe it's just me but it felt like they were all a twinge short.-More side quests.2. The conversation chains you are able to have with your teammates seemed kind of short to me. Making longer chains or perhaps diversifying the things you can talk about would be awesome.

So many good points on this one and a couple of bad one so I'll reitterate the positives (from my perspective). for the record I've played more bioware games than games from any other game maker, they have an ironclade record for , awesome game that flirt with the boundry of acceptability and in my opinion one of the last remaining true RPG developers (i count 2 maybe 3)

So i was greatly disappointed to see so many RPG elements stripped out of what was otherwise one of the best games I have ever played. The sad truth is real RPG fans are in a desperate minority, casual gamers are where the money is and i understand that and it just makes me sad. I don't understand why someone would want to rush through a game instead of exploring what feels like a real univers in an alternate reality, but i degress.

I thuroughly enjoyed the elevator loading screen and the mako. i realize i am in the minority but i recogized that the elevator was a loading screen, and the conversation in the elevator really added to the story, because your squad did more than just talk to you (garrus bring this up if you have him and tali together on the citidel) they were getting to know each other. it made me mix up my team often (at the expense of some achievment points)  so that everyone could talke to everyone else.

the combat portion was awesome. it felt like i was playing Gears or some other cover based FPS. but in my opinion it doesn't need to be at the expense of the story. in ME2 i felt like i was being rush from combat to combat with minimal dialog, character development, exploration and levelup.

another complant and then i'm done, is only getting xp from missions. in ME1 i would fight through a horde of enemies and level in the middle and immeadiatly allocate experience. this felt like i was honing my skills and growing as a character. in ME2 i'm awarded xp based on mission status, os it feels like i'm gifted with new or better abilities by some magical cerberus process that has nothing to do whit what i've accomplished, aside from the fact that i played ball with the invisable man

again this is a great game and one that i'll beat more than once, but i thought i would share my concerns (i'm verry doubtful that they will matter at all)

I must say i like the game very much, but after i completed it i was quite suprised how short it is(compared with bioware's Dragon Age: Origins), maybe its couse its a shooter as much as an rpg, i don't know, but more missions would have been a must.



Only game element i hated was the gathering of recources by scanning planets, takes so damn long and is very irritating, even more so couse u barely find any Element Zero...

Other thing is missed(but maybe i just did't find that mission) is that with all the upgrades u do to the ship, u never do combat with it! u fly around to get from place to place, but that it... and that sucks!

I actually like this change, as this is how I run PnP RPGs.  The level up and gain new abilities in the middle of combat has always been an odd CRPG design decision; at least in my eyes.
