After reading the "Sex and Nudity" topic, I came to the conslusion that the real problem lies in the lack of interaction between Shepard and his/her LI.

Here's what I wrote over there:

We, as the players, spend a great deal of our time getting to know these characters--their past, goals, personal motivations, ideals, issues, and personalities. Inevitably, we end up finding someone compatible with our own ideas and feelings. And so, romance blossoms.

The problem is that this romance is limited to a cutscene. Yes, it is a very emotional scene where the characters express their passion towards each other. It is sensual and establishes the "no return" mood. But, it is not enough to fully connect the player to his/her LI.

In order for the player to really care, there needs to be deeper interaction. I chose Miranda as my LI. But, besides the "I'll come by when things are quiet" dialogue and the cutscene, nothing differentiates my relationship with her in comparisson to the one I have with Grunt.

In my case, make me care about Miranda, Bioware. Make her special. Differentiate her from Garrus or Kelly. Take the next step forward.

If you guys find a way of strengthening this bond, of making the player really care, then the sex cutscene loses relevance, and we wouldn't have such topics as this.

I came up with minor details that might help to make you care a little more, such as: - being able to dance with her in Omega
- a brief cutscene where she smiles at you for no reason
- small talk that can range from "be safe, ok?" before going to a mission to an "I missed you" after returning from it
- A secondary character quest for your LI, maybe?

What do you think, guys? Maybe if enough people wishes to see deeper interaction, Bioware could go a step further beyond sensual cutscenes.

I believe there was another topic similar to this one. It discusses the want for BioWare to release DLC for LIs. I think it's titled "The Romance Pack".

Ohhhhhh so LI means love interest? >.> Took me a while to figure out what "SuZe" was, too. Why doesn't everyone just call her Jack? "SuZe" looks so stupid.

Er, yeah, as for this thread... It sounds good. It's always the little things (smiling at you for no reason/saying "be safe") that contribute to the big picture. Maybe they'll add marriage in the third game?

That would be because before the game was released, the character was called Subject Zero and her real name was unknown at the time. Anyone who has been on the old forums during the development phase may still choose to refer to Jack as SuZe as a result (I called her SuZe too until we all found out what her name was).

On topic: yes, I think part of the problem may be that there's not quite enough interaction that really acknowledges the existence of the player's relationship with the LI. In DA:O, at least you got to kiss your LI repeatedly out in the open (well, I did with Alistair, unless I had a jealous Zevran in the party at the same time ), and the other party members were aware of the relationship. They would teased your LI about it, etc. Even the LIs dialogue changed if you clicked on them at a certain point. For example: Alistair would actually randomly say "My love?" on occasion when you clicked on him to take conrol/move him if you had your approval high enough and were in a romance with him (sidenote: even the other characters' tone would change it you built up loyalty and were friendly when clicking on them to take control/move them, but it wasn't spam, just an occasional thing). We could do with a bit more LI interaction and depth, but I did enjoy the Thane romance at least.

Oh, wow.  Is DA:O as deep (in story and characters) as ME is?  It sounds like it, but I've been putting off getting it.  I'm pretty sure I might just rent it and eventually buy it if I end up loving it as much as ME.

I agree that more personalized experiences with the character would make the overall story better and the romances more in depth. sorry not sure what word I was wanting. The relationships would heavily benefit. That said, I still think that a romantic cutscene like in the first game would be appropriate. I feel that it contributes greatly to the story, provides a sense of the passion and adds to the romantic plotlines in a legitimate way. That scene wasn't there because of some kind of perversion, it was meant to add to the experience of the story.
