Firstly, it's not a matter of wanting to wait for the DLC, it's a matter of having to wait for it. Can't load my game until I connect to the network.
Secondly, the maintenance was scheduled to be finished at 6am PST. Not sure if you're comfortable using timezones, but right now, it's 10am PST. Maintenance was scheduled for 4 hours and it's been 8 hours since it has supposedly started. I don't know how to be much clearer than that on the subject.
Thirdly, having faith has nothing to do with anything. They should give us an update, plain and simple. Failure to do so on their part is unprofessional.
I'm not using abusive language and I'm not being hysterical. I just want an update. I think it's easy to understand.
You might have noticed, just MIGHT that things don't always work out like you intended. Perhaps they discovered some kind of bug that could impair your enjoyement of the game further on? I agree if they exceed their own deadline without notifying others is sloppy, but just imagine yourself in their shoes.
Honestly, I don't need the Network when DLC's are already downloaded.

"This problem can be fixed.
It happens with almost ALL EA games that I've ever played, Crysis, C&C, you name it.
This issue effects Windows Vista users (sometimes) and Windows 7 users almost all the time, because Windows 7 has it enabled by default, and some systems it's enabled already in Vista.
The fix is this:
1) Click start, go to 'All Programs', then 'Accessories', look for 'Command Prompt'.
2) Right-click on Command Prompt, click on 'Run As Administrator', if you get a security prompt, just choose continue or allow.
3) in command prompt, type, "netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled".
4) Exit Command prompt, and your game should be working.
Again this applies to alot of the EA games with server errors and has worked successfully for me in Mass Effect 2, Crysis and Command & Conquer.
I hope this helps."
