Title explains it all. After the "fight" is over the game slows to a crawl until it is unplayable. Takes about 5 minutes to do so. Then I have to Ctlr-Alt-Del to get out. Not had any (major) problems until now. Here's my specs:

Have you defragged your hard drive(s)? Also how hot does your CPU get normally and how hot does it get whilst running DA:O? Likewise, what temps are you seeing for your graphics card and system?

Upgrade XP to Vista to prevent this from ahppening again. Trust me, thanks to Vista the whole games works crash free for me.

Bartoni33,mousestalker is right about defrag...I defrag every two days,needed or not and I have similar system as you have.....

Well quick update on my problems.



Got a new rig so I re-downloaded game and tried again on much better system (i7 920 OC to 3.2GHz, 6GB RAM, GTX 285, Win7 Home Pre.) and still the same problem in same place. With new patch just out it actually got through first cutscene after 35 minutes (not exaggerating at all), went through loading screen then of course ANOTHER cutscreen where it finally locked up after about 15 minutes of waiting (again no exaggerating at all)!



Defraggged both my HD and the Steam files itself through Steam launcher before playing each time. I also have GFX as low as I can set them.



Really stumped here. My old rig was barely up to snuff so I could understand problems with it but my new rig is well above Rec. Requirements. I can only think of one more thing to try but really don't want to because I've already paid $50 for this game.

are you using the same save or you started a new game evry time you had this bug?



if it's the case may be (just may be) your save is corrupted and you will encounter this problem whatever the computer you play with.



i play on xp pro sp3 9800gt and amd dual core 2.9 ghz, i have done three times the fight of the landsmeet with 2 distinctive character, no problem at all (when i see all the people complaining that the game crash, i feel really lucky).

Yes I am usuing a new save. I left the Landsmeet, traveled to Arl's place in Denerin, then back to Landsmeet just to make sure. I also Quicksaved and tried that save too.

No this the only character I have in game. I very rarely play a game with more than one character. No way I want to start over again!

Well after jumping through many hoops I still can't get past Landsmeet. Seeing all the problems that cropped up after latest patch I'll keep game installed until expansion comes out, prolly going to be another patch to patch the last patch. If that doesn't work I'll hit up TPB and try a non-DRM copy.

Game STILL crashes at the EXACT same place as before. Patch was NO HELP at all. Thanks for wasting HD space for all this time waiting on fail-patch 1.04.

Considering your the only one being outraged i wouldnt blame it on bw so seeing as you didnt seem too have the problam before since your all the way up too the land meet id say just go back too using the old patch . But the chances are since its happening in the same spot everytime it sounds like you may have a bad game dic.

Your right I shouldn't be outraged that a game I pre-ordered $50+ does not work. How dare me! Also if you had read the whole thread this is the second computer this happens on. Also I have no DLC except the 2 that came with the game since why would I buy DLC for a game that doesn't work?



Anyway it really doesn't matter now, I've washed my hands of this franchise. Still looking forward to ME3 and TOR though, for some reason DA was HORRIBLY made.

Ditto, same here.  I am using Vista Ultimate 64-Bit, and have never had a crash, nor many of the problems others are talking about..  Good Luck

no idea i have like the exacct specs as the op and i have yet too have a problem may just need too clean ya registrys they tend too screw things up behind the scenes i still think you may have a faulty disc that may have a bad packet or something considering your crashing in the same spot.

I have the Steam version, I also re-downloaded it 3 times and also used different saves. As far as registry problems, I bought a new computer with DA in mind; it was the FIRST thing I installed after updating all the esential Win 7 stuff. So that is not the problem. The problem SEEMS to be in the cutscenes.

I have windows 7, a good computer and never had any problems before patching. Now it is crashing and shutting down constantly, and slowing down after about 30 minutes of play when it doesn't crash. I am NOT at Landsmeet, I have been having trouble since the Tower of Ishtar in Ostagar. I defragged, and updated video drivers and still I am getting crashes

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunatly I hear it alot about DA. It plays well with most computers but not others. I've never had the amount of problems I've had with DA on any other game I've played. I am VERY dissapointed with BW. I really do like this game, but I won't be buying the sequel or any of the DLC either.

I know you indicated you used different saves, but after your game has been updated to 1.04 have you tried loading a savegame prior to entering the landsmeet for the first time and seeing if the issue still occurs? Beyond that, this is a shot in the dark but I'm curious as to what similarities between your old computer and your new computer exist? Such as: software, like antivirus, specific hardware you may have transplanted, etcetera.

1.04 still having long load time when zoning from one area to another. Some slow down during gameplay. Does seem a bit improved "aka No Crashes "Yet" since the patch. I hope to see one more patch for performance.

I have 2 sets of saves for that character. One from my old comp and one from the new one. Both are QuickSaves before I open the door to start the Landsmeet. I haven't tried the old Quicksaves because someone said that I may have a corrupt Save file. Thus I left the Landsmeet area, traveled out of Denerin (sp?) went to my Camp, saved there, traveled back to Denerin, then traveled back to the Landsmeet and saved again before entering the Landsmeet.

The only shared hardware is my SB Audigy 2Z. Everything else is new or upgraded. When I get time I'll try again with a save from my old computer.

I hate to ask but, any news on 1.05 yet? Or are they too busy churning out DLC after DLC.

I'm not sure but i think i have a similar problem atleast it sounds like it.

I'm stuck at a certain point aswell which i cannot get past.

And it when i enter Denerim after finishing the circle of magi part and redcliff. As i enter i get a cutscene where Alister starts to talk and i get to answer him. And it doesn't matter what answer i give him after that the game goes into a crawl or i guess you could say freezes. and i have to ctrl+alt+delete and end the process(that action also goes in slowmotion).

I havent done too much troubleshooting on this but i have been doing a few things. I have tried to lower gfx settings, and limit the process to one cpu.

I have played through the game before and this scene never locked up. Infact it never did the first time i played through it.(wich was 2 weeks after release). This is not the only place this happens, it has locked up in other places too in the same way but i always managed to get past those by pressing esc skipping the dialog.

Im still using my same rig so im guessing something happened in one of the patches after.

I have also noticed that sometimes the game slows down and get choppy during cutscenes aswell. I usually solve that by alt+tabbing out and back in and then its running smooth again.

That never used to happen either. So im not sure whats going on, all my other games work fine and i have no problems with anything else on the computer.

Yep sounds like we have simular problems. Mines been doing it since 1.01.

I also made a new character and it slowed down to a crawl in the first bar with Lelania(sp).

If you find a fix please post it for me.
