It doesn't do the best of damage, and it doesn't do AoE very well... but it has one factor that makes it very, very nice.
You don't have to aim it. At all. You can pop up, fire, and forget it. Most of the time you don't even have to have a target highlighted in order to hit things. This makes it excellent when you're pinned down on Insanity. Most of the the time you only have enough time to fire off a burst or two from a weapon before they kill your shields. With the Missile Launcher, you can pop out of cover, fire off two very quickly, and then duck.

My overall opinion of each: the flamethrower up close was nice, and so was the frost weapon if you had ammo to spam it, the collector beam felt more like a novelty compared to the assault rifle, cain was inefficient and no explosion is worth that amount of trouble, grenade launcher felt like it lacked splash damage, and the rocket launcher was a bad joke.
Didn't use the black hole gun because I don't have the code for it but it seems like that may be the best of the heavy weapons.

I think most Infiltrators feel that way. Even when folded, that baby is about as large as the Particle Beam.senojones wrote...
I find it funny that I consider my Widow as a heavy weapon, its more powerful then just about anything else :[
Which is kinda amusing.

Oh it is, without a doubt. The only reason I've used my Particle Beam (or any heavy weapon) is because I've run out or am trying to conserve my sniper ammo

I used the Cain on the final boss as the others are not that effective against him.
I use the missle launcher as well, it is good vs the big mechs. One thing I do not like about it is that if the target is not close, shots may go off and hit something else, like a destroyable canister.

The Cain (nuke) takes a bit to deploy. I'm not sure the exact amount of time but it takes about 4-6 seconds to fire (hold down the fire button
For the final boss I use the Missile Launcher as I can take out two "feeding tubes" at a time.
Thanks for the info on the Cain - I had trouble with that too.
Boss feeding tubes...you don't need heavy weapons
If you are a soldier, activate adrenaline rush and use the sniper rifle.
Move fast - and you can take out all the tubes in one sweep.
Of course without adrenaline rush this won't work.
Still...it's a fun thing to do....and you save your heavy weapon ammo - always a good thing

On my Adept playthrough it was the collector beam till i got the assault rifle spec.
The only Heavy i never used was the Flamer...
Oh and well... about the Cain.... i tagged it along for the Final fight (after i knew what was comming) and nothing ends as sweet as seeing a reaper going off in a nuke. Its a nice Weapon, but most definately something you don't tag around unless you know there is a boss coming up. So its basically a 2+ Playthrough weapon.

I love Blackstorm. Seriously love it
Same here. I found it worked pretty well as a "mini-Cain" with more shots. Very good against hordes, and LOVE the effect. On my first playthrough I pretty much used just it and the Cain. This time I'll probably take the particle beam to the final fight (playing on insanity).

How does the Blackstorm fair against Scions and Heavy Mechs? Thats my only concern when using that weapon (haven't had a chance to test it yet against those enemy types).
Not very well, it is the one weakness of that Blackstorm. Gunships, Heavy Mechs, and Praetorians, only retain damage as it passes through, but don't get sucked in, or disappear. Never really tried it on Scions though.

anyway, the best heavy is the blackstorm. First it is huge crowd-control by creating a much more powerful singularity than what an Adept can do. Then releases a big shockwave that does significant damage. I've used that shockwave damage on the helicopter fights and it works very well.
in fact, blackstorm gun makes me hate using adept singularity because it just feels redundant and inferior :x

the flamethower you get from zaeed's loyalty mission, its on the floor, doesn't matter if you do paragon or renegade route.
the black hole gun is a collectors edition dlc.
I figured out flamethrower, I didn't have Zaeed installed on first playthrough..
But I do have CE (euro) and only got collector's armor and assault rifle from downloadable CE goodies.

Say, does Cain benefit from Assassination Cloak?
Yes, you actually survive long enough to fire that thing.
