Hmm well if you want a epic rpg/shooter ME2 is awesome. DA:O is definatly your best bet if your a hardcore RPG fan.
I disagree with the comments about ME2 characters being better. They aren't as developed as well as the DA:O characters. You can get way more dialog in DA:O and character development. Maybe you guys meant you liked the characters more, not sure. But as far as understanding and the character telling them about themselves DA:O excels. Not saying ME2 did a bad job, just saying DA:O is superior.
It's just your taste in games though, personally I liked DA:O more. ME2 is a great game though, I recommend just getting them both.
Edit: Gameplay is smooth and probably more fun in ME2. I liked it way more than DA:O. DA:O is alot of strategy and can be really hard at times.
Having more dialog doesnt equal better character development. There are tons of dialogs in DAO, most of which are beyond boring.
Also talking about gameplay, in DAO you can pot trough anything if you have enough points. In ME2 if you dont fight strategically, you die pretty fast.
Still its pretty much about tastes. I know people who simply prefer fantasy worlds like the one in Dragon Age, over future sci fi's.
Both games are good! No doubt about that.
Hmm have to disagree, alot of ME2 characters just didn't have anything else to tell me about half way through the game. Also throughout the missions in ME2 it felt like they weren't their, they rarely interacted or talked. Maybe its boring to you but you said yourself its a taste thing. Im not bashing ME2 im saying it didn't do as good of a job connecting me with the characters. I did think they did an AWESOME job on Tali. Garrus is worst he has like maybe 2 talks after you get him?
Same with DA:O, I died alot more in DA:O than ME2. I played sentinel in ME2 though heard its a pretty good class so maybe thats why. Im running on adept for second play through.

You have no idea as to what a fanboy is, so i am a ME2 fanboy because i prefer it over ME1? What does that make you? Considering 85% of your posts are "ME2 sux M31 rul3s!!" and 15% trolling?MassEffect762 wrote...

No really, telling me to grow up when you accuse people of being trolls, throw the word fanboy around without even understanding the meaning of the word, attacking someone and then playing the victim? Sounds like you're the one that needs to "grow up".

Obviously, I like ME2 better (ME1 also) than DAO but both are good games, it's just a matter of taste.

However, on their own (meaning no ME1 involved), I lean towards DAO because of higher immediate replay value. I love ME2, but not playing with my ME1 background just isn't as enjoyable, imo. DAO doesn't have to worry about that, and with choices in different races and origins, everytime feels a little more different. I don't think I could compare them musically or visually, because for me, they're equally stunning.

Depend what you like, you want a true to the core RPG play dragon age, you want a beautiful cinematic rpg/shooter hybrid play ME2.
This, but other things vary as well
Replayability = Tie, both very replayable (currently on my 4th Dragon Age file and second ME2)
Story = ME2 (both are great, but I prefer ME2s)
Gameplay = Tie (very different though)
Tactics = Dragon Age
Difficulty = Dragon Age
Time = ME2
Customization = Dragon Age
Squad personalities = Tie
DLC = Tie (for now)
Overall I call them a tie for me mainly because with ME1 imports the ME2 experience is a lot better

When all is said and done, although DA was an outstanding game, I ended up enjoying ME more-- albeit slightly. What's weird is that I think DA's universe is more hashed out even though there's only been 1 game, and that's due to the quality of writing from Gaider. Unfortunately, I'm not really a fan of Karpyshyn's style, though I intend on purchasing the 3rd book in July (that's what's important, anyway right?)

and the story and characters take you into that world as
ME1 did for this series. ME2 doesn't feel right at all in devolving
into a generic shooter and leaving us with nothing to really explore
or characters that make you care.
I'm not sure I like the direction ME2 took or the nerfing of
the rpg elements and the total destruction of player/armor/
weapon customization; it's no longer your shep if your
pigeonholed into using certain classes and not allowed the
choice in upgrades.
The ME2 galaxy seemed smaller without the exploration content
as well (with anomalies only accounting for about
5-10 mins of action)... Considering the best missions involved
past squadmates, it shows how much of a gem the first was in
immersion into the ME universe and in creating feelings for your
squad and how disappointing the ME2 new chars are...
Lets hope the final one makes up for it...
