Mass Effect series is better for me for several reasons. I prefer sci fi to fantasy, I love the combat, story and characters better, you can import in your old character, but the main reason is Mass Effect is addictive. I have not played another xbox 360 game since I've got it.

I'm at the point in Dragon Age where you finally see Logain face to face in Denerim. How much more do I have to get through before I complete the game cuz I really wanna play Mass Effcts 2 but I still have others games I bought to play and complete like Assassin's Creed 2, Brutal Legend, Uncharted 2, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, Silent Hill Shattered Memories. Then I will save the best for last while is Mass Effect 2.

Hmm well if you want a epic rpg/shooter ME2 is awesome. DA:O is definatly your best bet if your a hardcore RPG fan.

I disagree with the comments about ME2 characters being better. They aren't as developed as well as the DA:O characters. You can get way more dialog in DA:O and character development. Maybe you guys meant you liked the characters more, not sure. But as far as understanding and the character telling them about themselves DA:O excels. Not saying ME2 did a bad job, just saying DA:O is superior.

It's just your taste in games though, personally I liked DA:O more. ME2 is a great game though, I recommend just getting them both.

Edit: Gameplay is smooth and probably more fun in ME2. I liked it way more than DA:O. DA:O is alot of strategy and can be really hard at times.

Having more dialog doesnt equal better character development. There are tons of dialogs in DAO, most of which are beyond boring.

Also talking about gameplay, in DAO you can pot trough anything if you have enough points. In ME2 if you dont fight strategically, you die pretty fast.

Still its pretty much about tastes. I know people who simply prefer fantasy worlds like the one in Dragon Age, over future sci fi's.

Both games are good! No doubt about that.

Hmm have to disagree, alot of ME2 characters just didn't have anything else to tell me about half way through the game. Also throughout the missions in ME2 it felt like they weren't their, they rarely interacted or talked. Maybe its boring to you but you said yourself its a taste thing. Im not bashing ME2 im saying it didn't do as good of a job connecting me with the characters. I did think they did an AWESOME job on Tali. Garrus is worst he has like maybe 2 talks after you get him?

Same with DA:O, I died alot more in DA:O than ME2. I played sentinel in ME2 though heard its a pretty good class so maybe thats why. Im running on adept for second play through.

Oh look SithLordExarKun, perhaps the biggest intolerant ME2 fanboy on these threads to date.

You have no idea as to what a fanboy is, so i am a ME2 fanboy because i prefer it over ME1? What does that make you? Considering 85% of your posts are "ME2 sux M31 rul3s!!" and 15% trolling?

Do i smell a hypocrite? Yes i do. Now go back under your bridge you troll.

No really, telling me to grow up when you accuse people of being trolls, throw the word fanboy around without even understanding the meaning of the word, attacking someone and then playing the victim? Sounds like you're the one that needs to "grow up".

I think I prefer the overall universe of Mass Effect, as the fantasy realm seems a bit tired in the genre right now. As usual though, which game you prefer will come down to your own specific tastes.

Considering that I'm yet to finish DA:O and I'm already on my second play through of ME2, I'd say ME2. DA:O got boring pretty fast and the plot is not very interesting. Then again, I've always been more of a scifi guy, so...

I played DAO through entirely once & then tried all the origin stories. It took me about 80 hours to do everything in the game which is a bit longer than I like myself. I'm just fine w/30-40 hours of gameplay to do everything & maybe only 5-10 hours to do a speed run through only the main quest. These 80+ hour games are just too time consuming for me to play through more than once. Oblivion taught me that. I think DAO is pretty good but it's cheeky humor & in-your-face sexuality isn't my style. I also enjoy RPGs that have NG+ more (NWN could do this as can ME1/ME2). ME2 has a more serious tone too which I prefer.  My biggest issue w/DAO is that the plot has no mystery to it.  You know from before you even buy the game what you're trying to do & it's simply a long arduous process to get to the end.  I like a story that has some progressive revelation to it vs. spelling out the end all at once.

Obviously, I like ME2 better (ME1 also) than DAO but both are good games, it's just a matter of taste.

best regards,
Pedal2Metal

I definitely prefer ME2. Although I haven't even finished DA:O. I think I'm far more of a science fiction fan then a fan of the mystical stuff.

Hmm. When comparing the two games, I think it really depends on how you play ME2 that makes all the difference. I think if you play 2 with the prequel behind it, you get a much more rounded experience, in which case I'm for ME2. I love the characters, the faces you meet, and the story is great.

However, on their own (meaning no ME1 involved), I lean towards DAO because of higher immediate replay value. I love ME2, but not playing with my ME1 background just isn't as enjoyable, imo. DAO doesn't have to worry about that, and with choices in different races and origins, everytime feels a little more different. I don't think I could compare them musically or visually, because for me, they're equally stunning.

Depend what you like, you want a true to the core RPG play dragon age, you want a beautiful cinematic rpg/shooter hybrid play ME2.

This, but other things vary as well

Replayability = Tie, both very replayable (currently on my 4th Dragon Age file and second ME2)
Story = ME2 (both are great, but I prefer ME2s)
Gameplay = Tie (very different though)
Tactics = Dragon Age
Difficulty = Dragon Age
Time = ME2
Customization = Dragon Age
Squad personalities = Tie
DLC = Tie (for now)

Overall I call them a tie for me mainly because with ME1 imports the ME2 experience is a lot better

Dragon Age was good but not great. There is hardly any story in bioware games. Also characters don't interact with each other as much in bioware games that is what is a dissappointment. Also there ain't as many cut scenes/FMV's in boiware games which is also dissappointing! So will I be let down like I was in Dragon Age and Masss Effect 1. Will I bet let down for Masss Effect 2?!

First, let me say that I'm a sci-fi fan moreso than a fantasy fan, but with that, I had never anticipated a game more than I did for DA. I loved ME1, too, and was seriously looking forward to ME2, but DA clearly was the game I thought I would like more. I've also read both of Gaider's DA prequel books, and both of Karpyshyn's ME prequel books.

When all is said and done, although DA was an outstanding game, I ended up enjoying ME more-- albeit slightly. What's weird is that I think DA's universe is more hashed out even though there's only been 1 game, and that's due to the quality of writing from Gaider. Unfortunately, I'm not really a fan of Karpyshyn's style, though I intend on purchasing the 3rd book in July (that's what's important, anyway right?)

I will add that I spent about 80 hrs on DA, and about 50 hours on ME. For what it's worth, I like longer games.

Overall I would give Mass Effect 2 the edge. Not by much though,  they are both great games. For me it boils down to setting and personal preference.

why do bioware games always focus on choices. Why not more innovation!!! also why don't the characters of your team interact with other like in jp RPG's. Like a cut scene with action going on and characters interacting together. Mass Effect or KOTOR, or Jade Empire, or Dragon Age doesn't do this!!

DAO. Not as good looking but the rpg elements are there

and the story and characters take you into that world as

ME1 did for this series. ME2 doesn't feel right at all in devolving

into a generic shooter and leaving us with nothing to really explore

or characters that make you care.

I'm not sure I like the direction ME2 took or the nerfing of

the rpg elements and the total destruction of player/armor/

weapon customization; it's no longer your shep if your

pigeonholed into using certain classes and not allowed the

choice in upgrades.

The ME2 galaxy seemed smaller without the exploration content

as well (with anomalies only accounting for about

5-10 mins of action)... Considering the best missions involved

past squadmates, it shows how much of a gem the first was in

immersion into the ME universe and in creating feelings for your

squad and how disappointing the ME2 new chars are...

Lets hope the final one makes up for it...

Dragon Age I enjoyed more, just more content, more things to do and a better cast. That said Mass Effect 2 is still good, just too much shooty and not enough RPG for it to topple Dragon Age in my books.
